EPCOT underwent a major transformation, ending with the grand opening of CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza. It was a pretty big deal — these final stages of the project signaled the end of a years-long undertaking. But wait — just when we thought the construction walls were gone for good, Disney went and did, well, this.
The time has come. Test Track, a super popular EPCOT attraction featuring fast cars and unique designs, is closing for refurbishment. But this isn’t any regular old refurbishment. No, Test Track could look VERY different the next time it opens. Let’s talk about it.
It’s no secret that EPCOT has received a MASSIVE overhaul over the last few years. Some projects, like the Mary Poppins ride and the Play Pavilion, quietly died. But many others, including things like Journey of Water: Inspired by Moana, the World Celebration Gardens, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, are still SUPER popular!
And, of course, most recently, CommuniCore Hall and Plaza opened on June 10th. But, alas. After all that construction, EPCOT will be wall-less for only about one week.
Get ready for more CHANGES! Test Track is closing TOMORROW — June 17th! What for? A major renovation is coming! Test Track will get a NEW (third) iteration, complete with some nods to the old ride!
The ride will be sponsored by Chevrolet. General Motors, the parent company of Chevrolet, has been a long-time sponsor of this pavilion — ever since the attraction was called World of Motion! Disney announced that both Disney Imagineers and teams from Chevrolet will be working together to reach back into history to reimagine this ride.
In fact, the new reimagining will be inspired by the ORIGINAL attraction that came BEFORE Test Track called World of Motion. This old attraction took you on a “time travel journey through the history of transportation.”
4 BIG CLUES About the Test Track OVERHAUL in EPCOT
The ride system was different than Test Track’s current coaster-like system. In fact, World of Motion was an Omnimover system, like Haunted Mansion.
We can’t wait to see what Imagineers create this time! Could we see some of those iconic crash-test characters return? Maybe a new ride system? We’ll have to wait and see!
If you want to say one final goodbye to Test Track, go visit EPCOT before the attraction closes on June 17th! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.
