So this is probably the worst possible snack news that we could’ve woken up to this morning.
One of the BEST treats/snacks/breakfast items in Magic Kingdom is GONE. And we are NOT OK. 😭
One of our favorite places to grab food in Magic Kingdom is Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in Liberty Square.
Before today, the menu at Sleepy Hollow included a regular waffle (not Mickey-shaped) with chocolate-hazelnut spread, berries, and bananas.
There was also a sweet-and-spicy chicken waffle sandwich with cole slaw, made with the same waffle. These waffles were AMAZING. I literally got one every time I visited the park.
However, now the normal waffles are gone and there are only Mickey waffles available. Personally, I liked the regular waffles here more than the Mickey-shaped ones, so I’m sad to see those go.
Although you can now get Mickey waffle platters with similar ingredients to the sandwiches that were previously available, there’s no option that combines berries and bananas — you have to choose between berries with powdered sugar and whipped cream or bananas with chocolate-hazelnut spread and whipped cream.
The new menu includes the following:
- Mickey waffle with berries, powdered sugar, and whipped cream — $8.49
- Mickey waffle with chocolate-hazelnut spread, bananas, and whipped cream — $8.49
- Mickey waffle with Sweet-and-Spicy Maple Chicken — $11.59
- Funnel cake with berries, powdered sugar, and whipped cream — $8.49
- Funnel cake with chocolate-hazelnut spread, bananas, and whipped cream — $8.49
- Hand-dipped corn dog served with house-made chips — $11.49
We tried out all the new items to see how they stack up against the previous waffle sandwiches. Overall, we have to say that we’re very disappointed by these changes. The Mickey waffles are very soft and not crispy like the old waffles were.
The Mickey Waffles are more of a spongey, almost pancake texture, so when you add lots of toppings, especially soft toppings like fruit and whipped cream, they get slippery — almost slimy (gross) — and lose a lot of their structure. While we don’t want to squash anyone’s Sleepy Hollow breakfast dreams, we have to be honest! We are not fans of this change. But let’s get into the details.
First, we tried the Mickey waffle with berries, powdered sugar, and whipped cream.
The berries were juicy and fresh on top, and the whipped cream tasted delicious! However, that’s where our positive notes end.
The softness of the waffle was really disappointing — it’s not the same as the old fresh fruit waffle sandwich at all. If you loved the old one, don’t expect this to be an equal replacement.
But if you aren’t devastated by the loss of the original waffle sandwich, you might appreciate this Mickey waffle! Even though we didn’t like the texture, all of the ingredients tasted good.
Then, we got the Mickey waffle with chocolate-hazelnut spread, bananas, and whipped cream.
We liked the flavor of this one a little more! The chocolate-hazelnut spread is very tasty (it’s basically Nutella), and the banana slices were fresh.
We had the same textural issue here: The waffle was just too soft to support the toppings. But the flavors were great.
To break up all the sweetness, we grabbed the Mickey waffle with Sweet-and-Spicy Maple Chicken.
You get a LOT of chicken on top of the waffle, which we think makes this a great value. The chicken reminded us of the sweet glaze on orange chicken at some fast-food Chinese restaurants. It had just a hint of spice but not too much, so unless you’re 100% spice-averse, you should be fine.
The waffle itself didn’t have any flavor, so if you ate any bites without the chicken, it was pretty bland. But the bites together with the waffle were well-balanced.
Finally, we got the Funnel cake with chocolate-hazelnut spread, bananas, and whipped cream.
This one was our favorite item that we had today! The funnel cake has a closer consistency to the old waffle, in that it’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. However, it still doesn’t have the integrity because it breaks apart easily.
The taste of the funnel cake and toppings together was excellent. Once the toppings had been on it for a while, it still got soft, though.
It’s definitely a large enough portion to share if you get it as a snack, or it makes a great, hearty (albeit VERY sweet) breakfast.
There’s one bit of good news here: the Mickey waffle platters count as a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan! This is a great use of a snack credit, as you get a pretty big meal.

I am screaming, crying, throwing up. Just kidding. But in all seriousness, the Fruit Waffle Sandwich was my FAVORITE treat on property. I always run to Sleepy Hallow on my first morning in Magic Kingdom because the first taste of the delicious chocolatey fruit with the warm crispness of the waffle always reminded me that I had finally made it home. I was just in the parks about 2.5 weeks ago and I am so happy I had my tradition one last time. I am so heartbroken, first hushpuppies, now this. What’s next? No more Mickey Premium Bars?
Linda Hefferon says
I would maybe just order the hazelnut/bababa funnel cake and ask for a cup of berries on the side.

Booooooo!!!!!!!!

Nooooo!!!!! Not the fruit and Nutella waffle!!!!! Why mess with perfection??!! 😩 I was so looking forward to our trip in December from California to eat my favorite snack, why go now??!! Jk, we DO enjoy Disney World for more than the Nutella waffle, but food is half the fun. I guess I can always try making it at home, but like corn dogs and churros, it’s not the same outside of the parks. The Mickey waffle ones don’t even look as tasty. Hopefully people complain and they bring back the OG ones before December 🤞🏼.

My sister had 2 of the fruit, nutella, waffle sandwich on her trip last week. We both love this one. So sad that DIsney is taking it away. I already sent in an email asking for its return for my trip July 15.

I’m so disappointed, it’s our go to breakfast snack. Why do Disney keep making things worse? They can’t be making that much more money off it can they? Maybe they are easier to make but I highly doubt it. I did think about buying both fruit combos & having half each with my husband! Maybe that was their plan all along , as we used to share the original Nutella fruit waffle. That mouse is cunning!

Ridiculous! In the past I would make a special trip back into MK for my treats before the journey home. The apples are no longer than great, so I guess now the only reason I have to go in is for Cheeseburger eggrolls which may or may not be available???
I legit told someone I was helping with a trip, “the main reasons I go to MK are for waffles, eggrolls and fireworks” I also love the pot roast Mac n cheese, gone a long time ago. Who is their market research listening to??? What a shame…..
Stop striving to be standard, Disney

Disney has lost its mind. Why mess with perfection? Sleepy Hollow was the one place we always ate at Magic Kingdom. The Mickey waffles have never appealed to me because of the issues you wrote about. Looks like we’re going to have to find a new place to eat. Disney, you’re breaking my heart. 💔

Disney has taken an on the go, fold and eat sandwich and turned it into a sit down meal. Do you have the time…?
Bob says
Waffle with berries and chocolate sauce was are favorite breakfast.Chicken with waffle and slaw our favorite lunch, Now both gone May just head out of the parks to eat. Everything we like goes away such a bummer.
Todd says
I’ve never understood the obsession with the fruit, nutella waffle sandwich. During a trip several years ago for the first time I opted not to have resort breakfast and instead headed directly to Sleepy Hollow at park opening for this item simply because of all the DFB fanfare over the years. I think it was the worst WDW breakfast I’ve ever had. The waffle completely stuck to the paper it was served on and the plastic flatware would break trying to cut the thing and it wasn’t even warm by the time I sat down to enjoy it. It was an absolute disappointment. I guess everyone has their thing. Now the real crime is the loss of peanut butter pie at Contempo Cafe!

We would make a special trip into the MK just to get the original fruit waffles! We’re devastated. Their replacements look gross! Whipped cream?. Yuck! We will never, ever purchase those.
So typical of Disney these days to reduce excellence in search of cheaper alternatives.
Larry says
How are you supposed to eat a chicken waffle sandwich on a mickey waffle? Who’s input did they solicit to make this change?
Sleepy hollow is now the ONLY spot in WDW that you can get a fresh made corn dog. Will that go next?
These continued changes are getting ridiculous.
Elise says
Why are there no gluten free waffles anywhere at WDW? No gluten free options anywhere!!! It would be so easy to these as pre-Packaged options for people who are allergic to wheat. I did find a GF grilled cheese at Hollywood Studios and a GF pizza at Animal Kingdom, but that was it. No carbs for me and that’s what gives us energy to walk everywhere. WDW could substitute Rice Flour for Wheat Flour and have a very healthy option. They could also purchase substitute GF options from Katz GF and keep them frozen until someone requests them – 15 seconds in the microwave and they’re ready 🙂

Oh nooo, our favorite snack in Magic Kingdom. A healthy dose of fruit on a tasty base. Bring it back asap!
France Lamontagne says
I’m so disappointed It was my favorite place. No more slaw? No more homemade chips? Disney, you’re breaking my heart. 💔
DFB Gigi says
Hi Elise! Most locations that serve waffles also have the option to make gluten-free waffles, you’ll just need to request that when you order. Here’s an article we wrote about the waffles at the All-Star resorts and the gluten-free waffle is included.
Tracy says
The fruit waffle with hazelnut spread was my favorite snack by far at Disney on our last trip! Maybe if we make enough noise they’ll bring it back. Maybe??
Elizabeth says
That waffle with nutella, berries and bananas was my FAVORITE treat at MK!!!! It was one of my favorite reasons to go to MK. My husband and daughter’s favorite treat was the waffle and chicken sandwich with the slaw. Its where we made sure we ate when in MK. Disney continues to disappoint with removal of favorites, changing attractions we counted on and loved. We are passholders at the 2 other major area parks but no longer Disney. This is a perfect example of why.
Debbie says
For several years the nutella, berries and banana waffles and a cup of coffee at Sleepy Hollow was our traditional breakfast stop in MK. Don’t mess with perfection. Disney, please bring the old menu back.
Genesis Gage says
Does anyone know if they got enough complaints and switched it back lol? We are coming down in September and I’m crossing fingers and toes that they change it back… Where can we email
Matthew says
I’ve put up with a lot of the bad changes at Disney World for years, but this nonsense from them has gotta stop. I thought there’s no way they would ever mess with such a winning formula quick service location, and yet, here we are.
BRING BACK THE OLD WAFFLES!!
