Yee-haw!!! The Country Bears are BACK, baby! Well, almost…
In case you missed it, the Country Bear Jamboree show in Magic Kingdom closed in early 2024 while Disney made some updates to the show. Don’t worry, the same bears you know and love will still be there, but they’ll have a refreshed look and sing some of your favorite Disney songs! Disney is about to begin previews before the attraction officially reopens on July 17th, but before that, we’ve got a sneak peek at the bears. Let’s take a look!
Disney just released a “Who’s Who” about the iconic Country Bears and showed off their new looks! We have to say, we’re pretty excited to see them in person soon…but let’s do a role call, shall we?
Henry is Ursus H. Bear’s grandson and he took over Grizzy Hall after his grandfather opened it in 1898. He helped develop the current show and co-wrote the opening song with…
…the Five Bear Rugs! This group is made up of Zeke and Zeb and Ted and Fred and a bear named Tennessee.
Zeb’s son Oscar can be seen holding a Big Al plush. Just LOOK AT THAT FACE!!
Trixie is back, of course, as she is one of the most veteran performers. Disney gave us a little hint on what she’ll be singing — “After trying everything, she eventually found her niche for performing.” That’s right — “Try Everything” from Zootopia will be in the show! Listen to a sneak peek here.
Name a more iconic trio than Bunny, Bubbles, and Beulah. We’ll wait… . Originally known as The Sun Bonnets, “these girls recently turned in their bonnets for Stetsons when they began singing with Trixie around the world, including a sold-out engagement at Royal Ursa Hall.”
Take a look at The Jewel of the Dakotas — Teddi Barra herself! Disney says, “Her rise in show biz was meteoric after being discovered in an ice cream parlor.”
Wendell fans, get ready because here he is! He was a a frustrated basketball, baseball and football player until Henry encouraged him to try carrying a tune. Now he sings a love song with Teddi Barra, “much to the dismay of his old friend Henry.” The DRAMA.
Ernest the Dude is a bear of fashion and brings his wardrobe anywhere he goes. That includes “17 trunks filled with 30 coats, 40 slacks, 60 shirts, 20 hats and a pair and a half of underwear.” He’s the best dressed and based on this outfit that must be inspired by Bert from Mary Poppins, we believe that to be true!
Terrence, aka Shaker, is next, and he’s still here after being a famous theater star and taking a fall from the balcony during “Romeo and Juliet”. Ever since then, he has been playing guitar and he created a signature dance move. Disney says, “Despite having a face only a Mama Bear could love – and being perpetually single – he’s ready to launch his film career. ” Ouch.
Romeo McGrowl (formerly known as Liver Lips McGrowl), is entering his rockstar era. This Miami Serenader is a huge fan of rockabilly and is ready to rock Grizzy Hall!
Gomer is the resident piano player here and although his favorite song was “Night on Bear Mountain”, he’s ready to switch it up to country and western music.
And last but not least, we’ve got Big Al! He’s been playing guitar since he was a child and the Country Bears would not be the Country Bears without him. “He was even the resident bard and balladeer in the swamp before Disney World was built. Coming off his 25th Farewell Tour in cities like Paris (Texas), Hollywood (Florida) and London (Ohio), Big Al is a true legend. ”
There’s your look at the new Country Bears show! Remember, the show reopens on July 17th as the Country Bear Musical Jamboree. Be sure to check it out and let us know what you think of the changes.
