Disney Cruise Line is in the process of continuing to expand its already impressive fleet.
There are so many exciting projects in the works for Disney Cruise Line. The Disney Treasure will start sailing in December of this year, and the Disney Destiny will begin sailing in 2025. Plus, we have been getting more details about the Disney Adventure, which will be based in Singapore. And now another NEW ship is in the works!
It was just announced today that Disney Cruise Line, in partnership with the Oriental Land Company, which owns and operates the Tokyo Disney Resort, is building a brand new ship!
This ship will offer year-round Disney cruises to Japan. It is expected to start sailing in 2029, about five years from now.
The ship will be a sister ship to the Disney Wish and part of the Triton-Class of ships. According to Disney’s announcement, “It will feature many guest-favorite venues and experiences from that ship [the Wish] with select modifications specially designed with Japanese guests in mind.”
The ship is expected to weigh about 140,000 gross tons, and it will be powered by liquefied natural gas. The ship will have about 1,250 staterooms on board.
Passengers can expect the same level of guest service, entertainment, and world-class dining experiences that Disney Cruise Line is known for.
The ship will be built at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, where the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny have been or are currently in the process of being built. The Disney Adventure is currently under construction in Germany at another shipyard that is under management by Meyer Werft.
Disney has worked with the Oriental Land Company for over 40 years. Their partnership has brought fun and new experiences to the Tokyo Disney Resort, like Fantasy Springs, an all-new land in Tokyo DisneySea. Fantasy Springs features stories from some of our favorite movies, like Tangled, Peter Pan, and Frozen.
We can’t wait to find out more information about the ninth ship being added to the Disney Cruise Line fleet! As always, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney news!

Disney Cruise Line is still true to the original concept of Disney Magic. So is Oriental Land Company (OLC). They operate Tokyo Disneyland as if Walt Disney were still here calling the shots. OLC has resisted the political messaging of Bob Iger’s era and it’s beautiful and enjoyable. Tokyo’s Splash Mountain is still Splash Mountain. This should be another great partnership.

If the OLC is involved, get ready for the best DLC ship in the history of the fleet!
Do we know if they will just offer cruises in & around Japan, or would they offer, say, a California to Japan cruise?
