When you’re driving through Disney World, you see all kinds of things that you don’t see on a normal highway. You might spot a Skyliner gondola above your car. You might see fireworks in the distance. You could even see a giant Mickey-shaped solar farm! Point is, you never know what you might see on the road. Be alert!
During a recent visit to Disney World, we spotted something BIG on the road. It might look familiar — especially if you’ve ever visited Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Wanna see?
OK, first, we need to give you some context. Disney recently debuted some new Disney Vacation Club Cabins at Fort Wilderness, and these sleek, modern new cabins take the place of the old log cabin-style houses you might have seen in the past. Here’s a peek at the OLD design. This type of cabin is no longer available in Disney World.
Instead, Disney has replaced them with over 350 refreshed cabins. The new cabins are “inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling.” Each one sleeps up to six adults and features one bedroom, one bathroom, a living room, a full kitchen, and a private patio. Here’s a peek inside!
Disney went out with the old and in with the new — literally! We noticed that the old cabins were up for sale and could be delivered anywhere within a 200-mile radius. Yes, really. In fact, we spotted several cabins available to purchase for $49,900.
Disney World Is SELLING the Old Fort Wilderness Cabins
Now, that brings us all up to speed. Take a look at what we saw on the road in Disney World! It’s an old Fort Wilderness Cabin, driving down the road. Goodbye, old friend! Look at it go.
Clearly, Disney is still in the process of getting rid of the old cabins. One was even seen near the Grand Canyon! Bet you didn’t expect to see an old Disney World hotel room in the middle of the road, huh?
Well, that made our drive through Disney World a little more interesting! You really never know what you might see.

That’s so great to be able to spot the old cabin on the highway. Something you will remember. That’s was so great about Disney. It pops up everywhere!

Thanks for the photo! We are sad to see the old cabins go! At least they are being sold and not just destroyed. We discovered the many perks of the cabins way too late, although we did get in a few cabin visits. We are very open to giving the new cabins every chance, if we can afford it… We are sad to see the more rustic vibes go by the wayside. It looks like there are some improvements, like more clothing storage in the bedroom (although the lack of clothing storage in the living area will be tricky for us). I don’t get adding a third sink and yet not finding a way to make it a full on half bath. The range in place of the combo microwave/convection oven is an improvement too. Hopefully, we will get to see that the charms of the new cabins help us to get over the loss of the old.

Reduce, reuse, recycle — I love it! How wonderful that you saw one traveling down the highway to its new home.
