Even the best Disney snacks have detriments.
EPCOT’s Karamell-Küche is one of our favorite spots for snacks in Disney World thanks to its emphasis on caramel goods like caramel apples, caramel corn, and the caramel butter bar.
We’ve talked before about how we enjoy the caramel butter bar available at Karamell-Küche in the park’s Germany Pavilion. It’s a delicious mixture of layers of shortbread, rich caramel, and butter. There’s only one problem…
In our experience, the caramel butter bar can get very, very greasy, and in-turn very hard to handle.
As we wrote about when we first tried the treat years ago, “What IS different about the Caramel Butter Bar, though, is that it’s super duper, duper, duper buttery… to the point that it was greasy. OK, listen. I am THE LAST PERSON ON THE PLANET to say that something has too much butter in it. When I go to the movies, I specifically ask them to only fill the popcorn up halfway so that I can add enough butter, shake it all down, and then add more butter. And more. So I am as astonished as you are that I’m going to say… there was too much butter.”
While we’ve really come to enjoy the treat, we must say the greasiness problem is still an issue and becomes even more pronounced in the heat, which is a bit of an issue in FLORIDA of all places. The only way to avoid this fate from our experience is to eat the bar as quickly as possible to avoid the melting.
Despite this issue, the bars have become one of the most popular dessert treats at Walt Disney World. So popular in fact, that it’s grown out of its original incarnation. There have been seasonal variants including:

I gotta agree with the post – the CBB has great flavor, but it is SOOOOOOOOO rich even my palate struggled to eat it all – maybe if they made them a quarter of the size and charged a quarter as much it would be a more enjoyable treat.

I agree with Bob! I think it all the time. Many treats at WDW are too large and would be more delicious and desirable at half or quarter the size and price. Not everyone likes the same treats, so sharing isn’t such a great thing (especially on the move in a crowded park in uncomfortable weather). Also, it’s not easy to save leftovers you must carry for the rest of the day in a park and on transportation. I did this a few times a gave up on that idea after each time winding up with a jumbled mess of a treat in my little hotel room where I and everyone with me agreed to toss out the messy treat and go out for a fresh treat that may not be as special but better than the expensive leftovers. Reducing the treat sizes and prices would reduce waste and make the experience more enjoyable for guests who want to treat a variety of treats.
Then we can buy multiples when we want the larger portions. It’s important the prices are comparable to the sizes, and that’s where I fear hope is lost. I’ve always wished for small treats in WDW. The Sahara Dessert Pop at Zuri’s Sweets was one good one, but I can’t even think of any others. Think of how wonderful it would be for kids, too, to be able to finish a whole treat without getting a tummy ache. They could still have the big, fabulous treats for those who love them.
