Are your Disney trips draining your wallet on the souvenir front? We may have a solution!
Look, cards on the table, we still get sticker shock when we look at many Disney souvenirs. That doesn’t mean we clutch our wallets, but we’re still always on the lookout for deals and savings on great Disney merch. With that in mind, we have to talk about a Disneyland souvenir that’s been incredibly affordable and right under our noses for years!
Our reporters visit Disneyland multiple times a week and they’ve found favorite areas, stores, and hidden gem souvenirs. In fact, one of our reporters is a big collector of a specific souvenir that can be found at Disney California Adventure for just $4!
If you head over to Avengers Campus and the Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! ride exit, you’ll find a Guardians of the Galaxy-themed gift shop, The Collector’s Warehouse. This shop is tucked away in a corner that isn’t easy to find if you aren’t exiting the ride, but it is home to some killer tunes, lots of Marvel merch, and a souvenir that will cost you under $10. That souvenir is Marvel comics!
The Collector’s Warehouse is home to several modern Marvel comics that range in price from around $4 to $7 WITHOUT ANY DISCOUNT. If you have a Magic Key Pass, Disney will honor your discount and you can get that small price lowered even more! In fact, that’s exactly what our reporter does. He’s amassed a collection of THOUSANDS of comics over the years and he can often be seen leaving The Collector’s Warehouse with several comics after each visit.
These comics are sold as single issues and are relatively up-to-date, so if you’re looking for old-school books or trades, you won’t find them here. However, Disney California Adventure does honor the cover prices on these comics, making them some of the cheapest Disney souvenirs you’ll find anywhere.
With a wide array of different stories and characters to choose from, The Collector’s Warehouse does a great job of keeping these comics in stock. Whether you’re an avid reader or just getting into comic books, these souvenirs are a great collector’s item on top of being just fun reads. Additionally, their low price makes getting multiple totally doable, and you can stack up the purchase and still pay less than you would have for some single-item souvenirs elsewhere in the parks.
So why doesn’t Disney overcharge for these comics? While there is no obvious answer, we can make a few deductions. Upcharging comic books regardless of cover price is not an illegal activity. However, Disney has refrained from doing that. Most of that can possibly be attributed to decent business practices.
While Disney tends to upcharge for stuff in the parks, upcharging comics would be a bad look. For starters, these books have a listed price on the cover, so buyers will know what the books should cost. If they changed the prices at the counter, more often than not conflict would arise.
Marvel Comics officially became the property of The Walt Disney Company on December 31st, 2009, and a subsidiary of Disney Publishing Worldwide in March 2023, so they have financial investment in these books. As our reporter can attest, reading a comic book can be a gateway to purchasing more and more books, so Disney is ultimately playing the long game by being fair with its book prices.
The Disney Parks also see a profit when buyers purchase books from their stores instead of retailers like Amazon and other comic book stores. The market is competitive, and while Disney sees profits either way on sales of their books, the Parks get a cut of that action when you buy in-park.
The cost of comics has steadily gone up over the years, but compared to the rest of Disney’s souvenirs, they’re an absolute steal. When the guests are happy and Disney is happy, everybody wins and these affordable souvenirs are definitely a win. Have you picked up these books at Avengers Campus? Do you now plan to?
