We would consider ourselves pretty big Disney World fans. We are in the park every single day, and we just so happen to write about Disney World as our job. We even dream about Disney World sometimes.
There is A LOT we love about Disney World, but there is also one thing that we find a bit annoying.
There is one rule we really wish Disney World would finally start enforcing. While we know they frown upon it and occasionally enforce it, line jumping can sometimes feel like it has gotten out of hand. We understand that there are multiple scenarios where we would be perfectly fine with people cutting the line. Maybe your kiddo really needs to use the bathroom, or one member of your party runs out quickly to grab a water bottle to keep your group hydrated. Or maybe someone in your party has a hard time waiting in line.
However, whenever we see a huge group of people moving through the line to catch up with their one member who is all the way at the front of the line, we do get a bit annoyed.
Having one person wait in line and then having the whole rest of your party meet them when they are almost to the front is just not the proper theme park etiquette. We understand that the lines are long and it can be boring to have to wait in line. However, almost everyone else is managing, and there are lots of ways to entertain yourself while in line. An unfortunate fact about visiting a theme park is that there are going to be crowds, and you are going to have to wait in line at some point.
We really wish Disney World did a better job enforcing the policy of no line cutting, however we could also see how it would likely be difficult to enforce. It would take having many more Cast Members throughout the queue to be able to stop line cutting and even then, it may not put a complete stop to it. We just wish we would get passed by fewer huge parties while waiting in long lines.
Before we get too too far on our soapbox about line cutting, we do want to add in that there are people who are unable to wait in a conventional line, have issues while in line, or need to be able to step out and rejoin their party later on. We want everyone to be able to experience Disney World attractions, but we don’t like when people simply don’t want to have to wait in line, so instead they opt to cut the line to get to the front.
There are options for guests who are unable to wait in line for various reasons. One of these options is the Disability Access Service (DAS). While the system has undergone a huge change as of May 20th, 2024, it could still be an option if a member of your party is unable to wait in line. The new system has received lots of criticism and may not be able to be utilized by everyone who seeks to use it. If you are not able to qualify for DAS, Disney World also offers a return to line service if something happens while you are in the queue or you need to be able to exit. With this service, you will speak to a Cast Member at the entrance of an attraction if you need to leave the queue line for a bit. We want to stress that there are folks who are re-joining their party online in a manner that is fully endorsed in Disney World, and is not cutting in the line. This is very different than those groups that send one person to wait in the line and then bring a whole group in to join that person without authorization from Cast Members — that’s what’s against the rules, and that’s what we would like to see Disney enforce more frequently.
While we would love for Disney World to better enforce line cutting, we are still grateful that we get to experience the parks as much as we do, even though we might get a bit annoyed when a group of 10 cuts past us in line. We will just shake our head and continue enjoying our wonderful day at Disney World. It is pretty hard to be mad when you are getting to spend the day in the park!

Completely agree. I’ve been annoyed by this for years. My wife and I have (legitimately) used the DAS, but it’s pretty obvious with her in an ECV and using a cane when NOT in it, that we’re not abusing the system.

Line jumping is still happening. Disney needs to enforce that at the attraction entrance all members of the party must be present. Going through the narrow line que on an ECV scooter and then have people milling through to line to catch up to a family (imaginary (deliberate line cutting) or real) is difficult and annoying. We don’t do that, why should we be taken advantage of?
NP says
Do you ever call out the people doing that? Your should do a poll. I think if most people said something it might shame people enough to stop the bad behavior.

I was just in WDW and witnessed this very thing. A family of 4 adults, behind me at the back of the line stood behind me for about 10 minutes, then the push forward started. They ultimately jumped over into the Lightning Lane to get all the way to the front. Now, if your party is THAT far ahead of you, I don’t think you have any right to try to catch up. Besides, it really appeared that they weren’t actually trying to catch up to anyone, they just didn’t want to wait in line. I wondered why the cast member at the inner Lightning lane scanner let them through since they clearly did not have valid passes. This was on Haunted Mansion, with a posted 25 minute wait. Mind you they stood behind me for 10 minutes already, so what would another 15 minutes hurt?

100% happened to us soo many times last year. we waited in the queue with the kiddos doing the right then and then big groups of teens this time went all down the rise of the resistance queue to a person like 4th in line.

That is my absolute biggest pet peeve. I don’t hesitate to tell these people that if there are LESS people ahead, then those need to come back if they all want to ride together. Unfortunately those around me suffer in silence and don’t verbally agree, although they will say thank you to me later! Gargh. I wish everyone would stand up to these huge groups of line jumpers. If we stood together, this would end. The last time I stopped a group in line for Remys, they got a little argumentative. I offered to get a cast member and they backed right off. They stared daggers at my back but all of the people in front of me suddenly got very friendly. Lol.
John says
Had an instance years ago where a family of 4 cut the line in front of us at Rise of the Resistance after we had been in line for over 30 minutes. Guy behind us saw it as well but when we got to a cast member to report it, he didn’t want to get involved so it was our word against the offenders. We opted not to try to take this family down but what a great life lesson from mom and dad for their two young children. Disney should post random cast members along the long wait lines just to keep an eye on folks….
Joseph says
I am there quite often and never see this happening. Where are you seeing this?
Marie says
This is exactly why the changes to DAS are incredibly unfair and discriminatory to disabled people. Guests in line have no idea who is using Return to Queue and it’s incredibly embarrassing and uncomfortable to utilize this option and even impossible for some. Not to mention it feels like there is a target on your back and surely takes the Magic out of Disney for the disabled. Yes I read your disclaimer about RTQ but it still makes the disabled uncomfortable to “skip the line”. Utilizing DAS was so much easier for everyone and waiting for the return time (for just as long as regular guests) somewhere else was not only and accommodation that respected ADA but also kept the disabled from being further judged and guests in line from feeling like they were being cut in front of even more.
Leanna says
Happened to me in like for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. A whole group of like 20 trying to jump the line claiming part of their group was way ahead. We told them no to them cutting and stood our ground. They were super ticked off.
Bruce says
Get used to it, with the DAS overhaul line cutting is going to be the norm for now on, it all goes back to genie+ Sales
Connor says
Could not agree with this more! My wife and I were on our honeymoon in Disneyland at the beginning of July and the number of people cutting in lines was ridiculous! Unfortunately, the cast member we spoke to said that it’s not against the rules, so they just let them do it to prevent someone from causing a scene.
Romo Ruz says
Line cutting annoys me, but my pet peeve is kids on shoulders. I use an ECV and I choose my spot more than an hour before the show so I will be able to enjoy it the fullest (parade, castle show or fireworks). Then here come the father, stops right in front of me and up goes the kid to the shoulders, blocking my view. No consideration at all.
/Rant is over lol./
Linda says
Line jumpers for sure.
My biggest pet peeve is when you have been standing in the regular line not the lightning lanes because you have already spent so much money on a family trip. But when they let 20 lightning lane people go to only 4 regular that really ticks me offscreen. I know they are making hand over fist money on the lightning lane people but what about the regular people. Walt Disney would be disappointed in their greed.
Just make it more even. Are the lightning lane people that more entitled that they can’t wait 5 minutes.
Lucretia Kleinman says
I don’t see the crime here. If 1 person waits in line and has his family join them later, to me, that’s not line cutting. I’m sure this doesn’t happen very often. I’ve never noticed much line cutting. Line cutting to me is you PRETEND you are joining someone ahead, but are simply trying to move forward.
AMP says
Until recently I was an attractions cast member at the Disneyland resort. Every single time I tried to enforce the no line cutting rule I would be overridden by leadership. That’s why the rule isn’t enforced; cast members know that if they try to enforce the rule leadership will let the guests do it anyway to avoid guests being angry or complaining. Never mind that all the guests who got cut in front of were upset too.
John De says
Ive heard Disney is releasing a new ride….its called the endless line ride, you wait in line from the moment you arrive to the time you leave and you luv it so much you will gladly pay whatever Disney’s admission fee is!
Mary says
Finally my pet peeve! Two people standing in line when seven people go through saying that they need to catch up to their party! Come on! More people than are waiting in line, I’d even except three but 7! Wrong very wrong. Hopefully talking about it here they will finally address this. Thank you!
Geoff says
Just an idea… why not photograph everyone as they enter the line and time stamp it, if they arrive at the front having cut in, remove them from the queue. AI could do this automatically and easily.
Ida M Margain says
Have cast members while they begin to wait in line remind everyone no line cutting
Daisy says
#1 thing we hate at Disney. Sorry butnitnwould not be hard with the really long lines. We have been there and the line is way beyond the entrance. We have no issues with people meeting up when the li e is still outside, we have had it when we get to the ride see a 60 or 90 min line and say q of us needs to use the bathroom but then catch up.
But you get to the entrance (still lots of time waiting and ther is a cast member there, they should stop others)
I’m talking when 1/2 the line is still left.
Patrick says
Thing is there are cameras everywhere and with AI they could easily identify that. Let them wait in line and when they get to the front, send them to the back of the line. Or 86 them from the park. The rest of us obey the rules.
Scott says
THANK YOU! This happened last September to my family and I. For two different rides. Slinky dog dash (listed 70 minute wait) My brother stepped out of the line after the 22nd person had jumped us in line..and all the poor old lady said was there’s nothing she can do. The next was rise of the resistance ride….and it seems when you tell the workers, they don’t really care or have any explanation of what they can do. We are going to disneyland in 5 days here with a big group… I hope they’re better than disneyland
Deb says
I have no problem with 2/3 people passing me,but a large group, absolutely not, everyone needs to stand their ground and not let them pass
Tammy says
This is my pet peeve as well. We see this all the time. You are waiting in line and a big group pushes through saying they are joining their party. I’m sorry that’s not ok. If it’s an adult and a child or one adult joining a larger party because they had to step out for the restroom that’s acceptable. Also one day my husband and I were in line for TSM and the line was back around the walkway to Woody. When we got to the part where you go into the building (probably 30 minutes later), a lady and her small child just stepped in line in front of us. I told her that the back of the line is back there but she just ignored me. I told a cast member that we passed and she got out of line but then I saw them in line several people ahead of us so no idea how they got up there. It’s just frustrating to follow the rules and have people just jump the line.
Bob Ellsworth says
The concept of line jumping speaks to self entitlement. It’s wrong but more and more I see it happening at wdw. When I’m in the mood, I give it about 10 minutes after they cut. If no one else says anything I turn around to elicit support for a few people behind me. Then I cut in front of the group with my party. If anything is said, I simply reply you cut in front of me now I’m cutting in front of you. Then I suggest that they call security. They back right down.
Judy says
Why not have (movable) signs at the end of the line stating “Please do not enter the line until all members of your party are present. Late-comers must join at end of the existing line; no exceptions”
