Are you planning to drive to Disney World or rent a car during your stay?
If you answered yes to the question above, then you are going to want to know this law before you hit the Florida roads. There is a hidden traffic law in Florida that not many drivers seem to know about. It is so “hidden” that Florida lawmakers recently tried to clear up the wording and proposed a new bill that makes it easier for drivers to understand.
This new bill was ultimately vetoed by Governor DeSantis, so there’s still some confusion about whether it’s illegal or not in Florida to cruise in the left lane.
This means only using the left lane for passing purposes.
While the current Statute states this, many Florida drivers still use the left lane for cruising rather than passing. State Senator Keith Perry said, “The goal is not to give out tickets. The goal is to have the public educated on this and let traffic move the way it should be.”
Florida lawmakers approved the bill earlier this year, but it failed to get the signature of Florida’s governor, so it will not take effect.
But it’s important to know that cruising in the left lane IS illegal in Florida, and drivers can still receive a $158 ticket for cruising in the left lane under the current statute.
If you want to avoid dealing with Florida traffic during your vacation, you can always utilize all the complimentary transportation options across the Disney World Resort. From busses, monorails, watercraft, and the Skyliner, you can sit back and relax and let Cast Members take you around the resort.
We’ll make sure to keep you updated if lawmakers attempt to get this bill through again; regardless, you can only use the left lane for passing purposes to avoid a ticket.

This is the MOST annoying thing about staying off property! The left lane cruisers make it sooo frustrating to drive on I4! I avoid it if at all possible

The only other place I was aware of it being illegal to cruise in the inside lane (there it’s the right lane) is Britain. So probably people are doing it out of ignorance. They should put up informational signs on highways in Florida, especially those frequented by tourists.

This has been the rule for at least the four decades I’ve had a State of Florida driver’s license. Over the years I’ve asked friends why on earth they cruise in the passing lane and got answers like, “ I just forget to go back over to the right lane,” “Because of the cars entering the highway on the right,” and “ I think it’s safer than changing lanes too often.” I disagree with all those reasons and begged my friends to cruise in the right lane and change lanes safely as frequently as necessary.

It’s sad they have to make a law about not cruising in the left lane.
It is a daily struggle here in Florida.

Well that is no surprise coming from the wanna-be dictator.
