We are LIVE at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event — and y’all, a WHOLE lot is going on here this weekend.
So far we’ve seen a ton of merchandise that will be coming to Disney Parks and online soon (we are SO ready to do some shopping). We’ve also learned a LOT about upcoming Disney movies, TV shows, and more! We even got a first look at the live-action Stitch from the upcoming live-action Lilo & Stich movie. But there are still a LOT more things to see, do, and learn about. We just attended the Marvel Animation panel, though, and we’ve got some BIG news to share with you.
So here’s the deal — we weren’t allowed to get you any videos or photos of the panels, but we got you a LOT of details about what’s up next for Marvel animation projects. One thing we found particularly interesting is that Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum confirmed that there won’t be one set style for Marvel animation projects. He said, “We’ll have a style based on whatever the filmmaker’s vision is.”
Of course, we had to talk about X-Men ’97. We didn’t get a full list, but we were told that new characters were coming to the series, including Warlock. We’ll also see characters like Rogue and Wolverine returning. In season 2, the characters will be wearing the suits from Grant Morrison’s run on the comics.
We got more details about the third and final season 3 of What If…? Season 3 will include an episode with an Avengers team-up with Moon Knight, Monica Rambeau, Captain America, and more. It was also confirmed that Oscar Isaac would be providing the voice of Moon Knight. We’ll also see Ironheart and Shang-Chi in season 3. Marvel is promising some “big swings” with the final season.
We also learned a LOT more about Eyes of Wakanda, which will be a series about Wakandan history. We’ll learn more about Wakanda’s connection to the rest of the world, as well as specific scenes that take place throughout the country’s history. In other words, the new series isn’t set in one particular timeline. The series is being developed by Todd Harris. It was confirmed, though, that Iron Fist be appearing in Eyes of Wakanda.
We also got a new look at the upcoming Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. In this series, Peter gets his radioactive spider bite when Doctor Strange and Venom show up through a portal while fighting a spider. According to Marvel, the show gives viewers an opportunity to really get to know who Peter is and how that affects him becoming Spider-Man. The show premieres on Disney+ on November 2nd.
Marvel is releasing its first animated project with a TV-MA rating. The Marvel zombies previously seen in What If…? are coming back for their own 4-part event series called Marvel Zombies. Now, this series won’t be out for a while, but we still have a few details about it, and spoiler warning: Shang-Chi gets bit! Oh no! However, the Mandarin gives him the Ten Rings to save him. Whew. The teaser we saw had a very Mad Max thing going on, by the way.
So there are a LOT of Marvel animated projects to look forward to. We’ll be covering ALL the big news at D23 this weekend, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
