So a LOT is going on in Magic Kingdom right now.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure just opened recently, as did an all-new version of Country Bear Jamboree. Construction may begin soon on an all-new Cars land PLUS a new Villains land is on the way, too. Well, now, we’ve got another change to warn you about coming up soon: a classic Magic Kingdom attraction will temporarily close.
The Liberty Square Riverboat, which cruises the Rivers of America around Tom Sawyer Island is not showing any hours on the Disney World calendar as of of August 20th. This generally means that the ride will be closed. We’re seeing the same on August 21st and 22nd.
The good news is that the website is showing hours for the Riverboat on August 23rd, so this is just a temporary closure. However, we’ll admit we got a little nervous. As we previously reported, the new Cars land announced for Magic Kingdom will be taking over the space occupied by the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. For a hot minute, we were wondering if construction would begin REALLY soon.
So it’s likely this closure has nothing to do with the new land being built. We also do not know what will become of the Riverboat once construction begins on the new land: will it be removed entirely or relocated to serve another purpose? Now, we don’t know if Disney is taking any suggestions, but we think a restaurant on the Riverboat would be an EXCELLENT idea — maybe something New Orleans-themed to go along with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure? Magic Kingdom is in sore need of better food, after all…so we’re just throwing that idea out into the universe for consideration.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more Disney World updates, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

I don’t believe many people car about Cars. Tom Sawyer Island is a nice break from the crowds in the Park. Whoever makes decisions for WDW keeps ruining the Parks. Real Disney fans should be “calling the shots!”

Restaurant would be a great idea for the riverboat ! Bring back the Empress Lilly! From the Disney Village days. That was such a wonderful experience!

Wedging Cars between the haunted mansion and frontier land was stupid. Not only will you be staring at a cement mountain as you stand in line for haunted mansion, I doubt that you will hear the wolf howls over the racket of cars racing around right next to you. Talk about ruining the esthetic s!

I am really hoping that Tom Sawyers Island and the River Boat are both open for Christmas. They are always a must for me whether I’m at Magic Kingdom or at Disneyland. They are aesthetically pleasing and a nice break from the crowds and the concrete. I think its a bad move on Disney Corp. to remove the Rivers of America and the Island. The River ties the Haunted Mansion and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure wonderfully. I’m 63 years old, the River and Island has been a part of my childhood and adulthood. I understand that times change and I could even go along with a re-theme of the Island ( perhaps a Tiana Restaurant/Shops etc ) but to back fill the only water feature in MK is just beyond comprehension for me. Walt Disney bought lots of land for a reason; so they could continue imagining and building not destroying his initial vision. Once this Cars Land project is under way not much of Frontierland will be left in MK. I’m concerned what is left will be so disjointed that it too will be removed. Funny thing, I had been hoping for a Cars ride. I love the one at DCA but I never thought they would gut Frontierland to make it happen.

Disney is already ruined taking out popular rides instead of starting a new place to add new rides it was a place for children now they serve alcohol all over the park it’s not as safe as it was don’t get me wrong i love Disney you just can’t let children of any age go off by themselves you can’t garntee there safety with everything going on in the parks now adays can’t afford the price to get in and can’t afford to eat there maybe they can get someone in there that will know what they are doing
