A State of Emergency has been declared for several Florida counties, including the Disney World area, and Disney has even begun restricting hotel reservations due to the storm. We saw Tampa International Airport cease operations earlier today, and now, Orlando International Airport (MCO) is following suit. Here’s what we know.

Orlando International Airport will cease commercial passenger and private operations on the morning of Wednesday, October 9th, due to Hurricane Milton. Milton has rapidly intensified over the past twelve hours, becoming a Category 3, then 4, then 5 storm within the span of a few hours. If you were planning on flying in or out of MCO on Wednesday, you’ll need to make other plans.

MCO shared that the airport was not closed and would still remain open “to accept emergency/aid and relief flights as necessary.” As for when the airport might resume normal operations again, that part isn’t as clear. For now, MCO says it will “resume commercial operations as soon as possible based on damage assessment.” Passengers are encouraged to check with their airlines for flight updates.
UPDATE: At 8AM on October 9th, MCO will plan to cease commercial operations. Please check with your airline about the status of your flight.

The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority also stated, “GOAA wants to alert the public that MCO is not an authorized shelter. The airport cannot accommodate local residents during severe weather events. We will continue to monitor the storm and provide additional updates as needed.”
Additionally, Disney World is waiving cancelation and change fees for folks with hotel reservations due to Hurricane Milton. The storm increased to a Category 5 on Monday morning and is expected to make landfall somewhere around the Tampa Bay area by Wednesday or early Thursday.
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for additional updates from Disney World regarding Hurricane Milton. If you’re at Disney World or elsewhere in the storm’s predicted path, make sure you listen to local officials and news for the most up-to-date information.
