The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers is located at Disney’s BoardWalk. We have been keeping a close eye on the restaurant for a long time now, and we are eagerly awaiting its grand opening.
Seating has popped up outside and we have seen private events happening recently, so we are hoping this new restaurant will open its doors soon. We got a glimpse at the menu ahead of the restaurant’s opening a few weeks ago, and we recently noticed that something has CHANGED!
A few weeks ago, The Cake Bake Shop debuted its menu out in front and it was met with some pretty harsh criticism. The first thing that many people noticed were the prices on the menu. Disney fans took to the internet to express their opinions on the menu, with A LOT of the discussion focused on the expensive prices.
When the menu was first unveiled, quiches cost $28, a burger and fries was $32, and grilled cheese on the children’s menu cost $18. One of our readers on Facebook, Cathy, said, “$12 for a croissant 🥐??? Is it gold dipped? Or the size of a cat? Wow. Just wow. 😳” To say that people were a bit surprised by the prices is a bit of an understatement. Some readers argued that this would be a “special occasion” place and that they can see this restaurant being popular in Disney World.
However, it appears that The Cake Bake Shop heard some of the outrage, as the restaurant just unveiled a NEW menu that features lower prices for many of the menu items.
Quiches now start at $23.99 for a Broccoli Quiche (which was previously $28), a Classic Burger with Pommes Frites costs $26.99 (was previously $32), and a children’s Grilled Cheese can be purchased for $13.99 (compared to $18 previously).
Drinks have also decreased in price. You can grab a soda like Coca-Cola or Root Beer for $6.99, compared to $8 before. Many of the drinks only decreased a tiny bit, like Iced Tea, Lemonade, and pots of tea that decreased by one cent. And coffee & espresso options actually increased in price. A Cafe Latte now costs $7.99, but it cost $6 before. A Chai Tea Latte now costs $8.99, compared to $7 before.
We are continuing to keep a close eye on this new restaurant and will keep you updated. Make sure to stay tuned to DFB for more Cake Bake Shop news and for all of your Disney World food news!

This will be another business to close after a few years, who is going to pay those prices….even the reduced ones. I’ll stick to the Boardwalk bakery thanks.
Carol says
The prices are still outrageously high. I’m guessing the restaurant won’t last. It’s a shame because it seems like a nice restaurant, except for the prices.
Jenny says
Soooo, they didn’t so much lower the prices as much as they shifted them around. I see you Cake Bake Shop.. Another pretty place that won’t last long. When you’re spending upwards of $40 for one item and a drink, you can get much more bang for your buck elsewhere. They thought they were pulling a fast one and will only end up fooling themselves. Their location will be the death of them. It doesn’t call for those prices and will never see enough traffic to justify even attempting it. Not everyone ventures out of their way to the Boardwalk. I do because I enjoy it. But, i dont know…just a thought.
Lucretia Kleinman says
Yes! Boardwalk Bakery! I can split a hoagie sandwich with my sister. It’s enough for us. Cake Bake is price gouging! They look at the area (Yacht & Beach, Boardwalk) and think we can all afford it. I’ll go in to look but, now that I am retired, probably won’t spend my money there. Disney Springs has plenty of options for m.
Amber says
The prices are still too ridiculously high. Why would you pay 699 for a soda went on Park you can pay $5.50 also, why would you pay 8.99 for tea, in her other restaurants in Indianapolis or Indiana wherever it’s $4. Decreasing some of the prices by one cent just to raise other prices up, she didn’t really do us any favor no matter what she is still price gouging because it’s a tourist place.
Karen Lewis says
Still NOPE! We will be at BCV in a few weeks, and will NOT walk over to this restaurant. Prices still outrageous. This place will not last long even at these “reduced” prices. Are they using ground up Wagyu beef for the burgers??
Pete says
Ridiculous , absolutely ridiculous. they won’t last long with those prices.
Hank says
It’s a good start, but the prices are still outrageous. They are at least 50% higher than reasonable.
Eloni says
Good for them. It still doesn’t appeal to me very much. Just a personal choice.
Bella says
I was very excited for this place to open. However, after seeing those prices, I could never justify going there. There’s things to splurge on and then there’s being totally fleeced! No atmosphere is worth those prices.
Twilliam says
Julie you are probably correct. I’m thinking the they are going after the deep pockets of Yacht Club, Beach Club and Boardwalk peeps to pay the bills. Maybe a few Deluxe Park Hoppers from EPCOT walk over get a cocktail from Abracadabar stop on the way back. Let them eat cake🤣🤣 (Don’t forget the Swan and Dolphin)
Christina says
@Julie If it’s good, you never know. Some people really do have more dollars than sense!
Debbie says
The prices are still high. You are not serving gold! This why I am considering to drop the DVC membership! Prices are to high for everything. Especially park passes!
CT says
We will not pay those prices, even the reduced ones. We live in Orlando. There are too many other restaurants in Orlando with great food for reasonable prices.
Mark says
Just because the prices are high, does not make a place worth the money. People need to wake up and stop patronizing these establishments. Once prices become reasonable and realistic, people will return and the company will thrive.
Beth says
I’m glad to see they were open to hearing the customer response and made some changes. However, it just goes to show how greedy some businesses have gotten with their price gouging. It’s almost as if they wanted to test the waters and see what they could get away with.
I understand that it’s a business and the goal is to make money. But with prices like that, for a restaurant that hasn’t even proven itself yet, just tells me that they care more about lining their pockets than they do about customer experience
Leasa says
Prices are still on the higher side ESPECIALLY the drinks. IF we decide to try this place it will be water to go with the meal. Those soft drinks are extremely over priced & do not cost them very much.
Liz Middleton says
If I want to eat there I will budget it into my trip. Just like Victoria and Albert’s and other expensive parties, restaurants, extras etc that Disney has. I bet Disney charges these restaurants huge amounts of money to have a space there. They have to pay the rent somehow lol
Jessie says
Still way too expensive!
Tracy says
It’s still too expensive.
Jacqueline says
Is it kind of fancy ? Table service ? I feel like it’s still pricey, especially if it’s not table service.
Susan says
Oh I predict it will close a lot sooner than that; even with the lower prices they are ridiculous! I watched two videos today and the food does look very good BUT the sizes of the cake portions are large enough for 2 AND who in their right mind is going to pay $22 for a slice of cake?
Jeff Eastman says
I will need a G R E A T $$ reduction on menu items and all things Disney before I frequent their theme parks or hotels. I have boycotted Disney for six years due to their prices, and will continue as long as they price gouge.
Jojo says
After all the hype and the delayed opening, they don’t even serve Afternoon Tea? I don’t see it on the menu anywhere. That’s pretty much the only thing I was hoping to get there, since the Garden View Lounge has been closed.
JC says
What kind of person walks in, looks at those prices and thinks to themselves “Yeah, this is fine”?
Sad, really.
CM says
This restaurant doesn’t stand a chance. The Boardwalk doesn’t have enough foot traffic, and who in their right mind would pay those prices. I don’t care how good the food is. The other problem is that this is a bakery. You need high turnover to keep the bakery fresh. For those prices, people are going to expect baked goods that are less than 24 hours old. This restaurant will quickly go out of business if they have to toss high amounts of their product at the end of each day.
Peter Teller says
NO!!!!!
naturaldisastergirl says
The prices are special occasion, but the menu items aren’t really – grilled cheese? Burgers? I’m sure they’re delicious, but most people will be very happy with other options for a much lower price, regardless of how much money they have. Very serious cake lovers may no doubt find it worth the splurge and split a piece of cake and call themselves happy. But I wonder along with everyone else here how long they can last on that. My parents are both from Indiana, and I have spent a lot of time there too. Indiana is a very different place than the middle of WDW resort. I think the place looks lovely, but we won’t be giving it a try. Too much else to do with our money and time as it is, without being big cake enthusiasts or paying the prices.
George says
Disney is ruining itself with outrageous pricing and decreased quality in all it’s restaurants Being a longtime visitor to Disneyland and WDW it. will be a longtime before I return to Disney again
Jacqueline says
Boardwalk needs another Disney themed restaurant to get business. Not an overpriced bakery that serves burgers. These people have some nerve to charge these prices. It looks like they think people that stay in those hotels will pay whatever and that says a lot about them.
Essie says
Are slices of cake really $22.00? I would love to try their cake, but even though it’s supposed to be the best, that is a lot of money for one slice of cake.
Flounder says
The only way we would do it is if the Cake Shop accepted the dining plan. They don’t, so we won’t.
Foolish, really. I suspect a lot of folks staying in the deluxe and DVC resorts in and around the boardwalk use the dining plan. It just helps control costs and everyone in the family gets what they want…within reason.
People staying in other places are not very likely to hoof it over to the boardwalk for dinner. It’s just too difficult to get back to wherever else they are staying or wherever else they are headed back to.
Madelyn says
This is in response to JoJo who said no afternoon tea is listed on the menu. In an earlier Food Blog it was stated that the reservations were being taken on the Open Table ap for the restaurant. On the ap it states that the way to reserve afternoon tea is by calling – the number was listed. I called, and left their “concierge” a message. She returned my call later, and stated that reservations were not being taken yet for afternoon tea; she put my name on a wait list to be called as soon as they started taking them. We are going the first week in December, and she lead me to believe they would be open for tea by then. Price? $95/adult. MUCH higher than Garden View Tea, but the only game around.
Mike says
Who in their right mind would want to pay this much for any food ! This place will be gone before to long. This place isn’t even a 5 star joint!
Bay E says
The prices here are absurd, even for Disney. 23 bucks for a $2.00 egg salad sammy. please. This restaurant will be lucky to last a year.
