Test Track is coming back… but not as soon as we thought.
EPCOT’s Test Track has been closed for a massive refurbishment since the middle of 2024, with only an ambiguous “2025” noted as its reopening date. That is, until Disney confirmed a new reopening timeline for the iconic thrill ride today, December 3rd. However, EPCOT aficionados may not be happy to read it.
Disney has now confirmed that Test Track will reopen in “Late Summer 2025”, meaning that the large people-eating attraction will still be unavailable for a while to EPCOT guests.
Once Test Track does reopen, it will mark the third version of the well-regarded E-Ticket. The first version of the ride, focusing on a “realistic” automobile proving ground debuted to much fanfare – – and many delays – – in 1998, before closing for refurbishment in 2012. The second iteration of the ride, often referred to colloquially as Test Track 2.0, opened at the tail end of that same year with a tweaked storyline that revolved around guests “designing” and testing their own SimCar.
While not much is confirmed about the upcoming Test Track 3.0, Disney has said the next iteration of the attraction will feature a “new storyline” built around “a joy ride through scenes focusing on onboard technology, customization and personalization. Followed by a trip through a scenic outdoor route reminding us all of the joys of driving, taking in the world around us and spending quality time with friends and family.”
In addition, the company has teased that the new version of the attraction will feature easter eggs and references to World of Motion, the original opening day EPCOT attraction that once stood where Test Track does now.
As officially confirmed by Disney’s latest construction timeline, the newly refurbished Test Track is scheduled to open at EPCOT in late summer 2025. Though you may want to keep an eye out, as Disney also says that “you might even see cars returning to the track (for testing…at Test Track…nice) with their new look early in the year!” Stay tuned to DFB for more on the ride’s return.

Did I make a mistake planning my family once in a lifetime WDW trip in February 2025?
So many attractions are closed or closing before we arrive, and all the new attractions, updates and openings are late spring or later.
I have been planning this trip for 4 years, and it is just sad to know that so many things will not be available.

Very concerned over this re-imagine. The factory and exterior test track was the best. Once they killed the storyline of seeing things being made and tested to a thrill ride in the dark, I stopped going..

I’m not looking forward to the new version. Some people like the idea of EVs but I’m not one of them. I have a feeling this is one less ride at EPCOT I’ll go on. Most likely will do Gaudians and move on to a different park.

Stephanie, I think your family will still have a wonderful time, IF you are all aware that not every attraction will be open. Unfortunately, in 2025, so many attractions will be closed to make room for the new that aren’t finished yet. We are going to wait until early December 2025 OR 2026 to go.
Epcot has always been our favorite park, but my husband is so disappointed they are reimagining Test Track and he can’t ride Guardians due to dizziness, so it will lose some of its appeal for him, I’m afraid.
