It’s a big day! We’re getting a chance to explore Disney’s newest hotel tower ahead of its grand opening.
In case you missed it, Island Tower is the newest addition to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The Disney Vacation Club (DVC) property offers several different room types to sleep anywhere from two to nine people. It opened on December 17th, and sits on Seven Seas Lagoon, where it offers great views of Magic Kingdom. Just how great are those views? Well, we’re about to find out if you can watch fireworks from Island Tower!
As we mentioned, you’ll have a choice of rooms at Island Tower, including a duo studio, a one-bedroom villa, a two-bedroom villa, or a two-bedroom penthouse villa. Disney previously promised that many of these rooms will have “spectacular views.” Well, when we think spectacular, we think great views of Magic Kingdom’s Happily Ever After fireworks show.
When we got the chance to stay at Island Tower, we were hoping for a room with a great view of the fireworks show. Alas, we ended up with a parking lot view instead. So, if you’re like us and you can’t see the fireworks from your hotel room…where should you go watch?
Some of the best views of the fireworks can be found in the building’s garden terraces. During our stay at the hotel, we started watching the fireworks first from the Bamboo Forest Terrace, which is on the 3rd floor.
During the daytime, this is a stunning seating area with excellent views of Seven Seas Lagoon, but during the evening, you might be able to catch a glimpse of the Magic Kingdom fireworks…if it’s not too crowded. Since you’re only on the third floor, the view isn’t prime, but we could still see the fireworks in the sky and the music was piped in. You get a decent view of Cinderella Castle, but not much of Main Street, U.S.A.
For a better view, you may want to head up to the Wave Break Terrace. This one is located on the 5th floor, and like the other terraces, it has a stunning atmosphere during the daytime.
However, at night, this seems to be the fireworks hot spot! Since it’s higher up, you get a better view of Main Street, U.S.A., and during our visit, there were probably 30 people packed onto this terrace to watch the show.
If you want to watch the fireworks from this location, you’ll probably need to get here a little early and stake your spot.
But, those aren’t the only options! You can also watch the fireworks with music piped in from the Island Tower lawn. During the opening night of the tower, all the chairs were full with fireworks viewers, but there was still plenty of space to stand or sit on the grass.
Obviously, you don’t get the same view as you would on a higher floor of the building, but this could be a bit more peaceful and it was MUCH less busy than the beach at the main part of the Polynesian Village Resort usually is. Hopefully this area can stay a hidden gem!
So there you have it — our experience with watching fireworks from Island Tower. We’ll make sure to keep you in the loop with any more tips that we learn.
We’ll be checking out EVERYTHING at Island Tower, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
