Well, some things are going to be changing in Hollywood Studios soon.
Yes, a new Villains-themed show is coming to the park, but the bigger project will be a brand new Monsters, Inc. land that will be taking over Muppets Courtyard, meaning the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D. However, Disney did reveal that it has plans to bring the Muppets to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, but that’s not going to be ideal for a lot of people (especially those who will mourn Muppet*Vision 3D as Jim Henson’s last project).
So here are some problems we see with the new Muppets Coaster coming to Hollywood Studios.
There will be ride requirements
One of the best things about Muppet*Vision 3D is that there are no ride requirements. It’s just a show (an AWESOME show, we think), so just about anyone can come into the theater to view it. However, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has a height requirement of 48 inches, which means younger kids will not get a chance to experience it.
It’s also a thrill ride and comes with the usual thrill ride health warnings that could keep others from being able to experience the ride, too. So unlike Muppet*Vision 3D, an attraction that was made for everyone, the Muppets Coaster will limit who can ride it.
Mike Wazowski Is Officially Kicking Kermit Out of Muppets Courtyard in Disney World. Here’s What the Internet Had To Say About It.
Most of the queue is outdoors
We don’t expect Disney to make BIG changes to the basic structure of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster building and ride, so we expect that one of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s biggest issues, a queue that is mostly outdoors, will still be a problem. On those rare nice weather days, it’s not a biggie, but in the summer when the heat and humidity are THROUGH THE ROOF, YUCK. No one wants to stand outside for a long time.
This is also a problem when those random rainstorms pop up in Disney World. You’re going to get soaked if you’re waiting for the ride if that happens.
When is Muppets Courtyard Closing in Disney World?
We don’t know what bands will make the cut
Disney mentioned in its announcement about the coaster that the Muppets would be teaming up with “music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.” So who will these bands or rock stars be? It’s not like modern music is bursting with huge rock stars right now. Today’s biggest music artists aren’t generally in the rock genre.
Don’t get us wrong — we’d love a Taylor Swift and Muppets duo on “We Are Never Getting Back Together.” But what will actually classify as rock enough for the new ride? Are we looking at classic rock (potentially alienating younger audiences) or what? Aerosmith was 100% rock ‘n’ roll, hence the name of the coaster. Well, that’s not our problem to figure out, but Disney will have to ask itself some serious musical questions.
“If They Don’t Have Rainbow Connection I Will Cry.” Disney Fans Have 10 Demands for Disney’s New Muppets Coaster
Single rider line doesn’t work
If you’ve ever tried to do single rider on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, you’d probably know it’s a complete waste of time. Nearly every time we’ve been in the single rider line, we’ve waited LONGER than what we would have waited if we’d been in the standby line.
That’s not how single rider is supposed to work. But on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, it just doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to.
It will probably still go down a lot
If Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is any indication, the NEW Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will probably still go down and be closed as much as the original ride. We’ve seen situations where the ride has been down for DAYS. We don’t expect any major ride improvements to be made to fix the issues that cause technical problems, so the new ride will still require a lot of patience.
As we said, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a good example of this. Splash Mountain was notorious for its downtime. Even after it was re-opened as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, it still struggles to remain open. So that’s going to be an issue we don’t expect to get fixed with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
“This Is Not What We Asked For”: Disney’s Permanent Closure of Muppet Vision 3D Is Causing a LOT of Controversy
Although the Muppets coaster will technically be a new attraction, it will still bring a lot of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s current baggage with it.
