I love it when my two favorite things come together. First, I’m a Disney Parks fan and try to visit every chance I can (and when my budget allows). But I also LOVE Star Wars, which means when I’m headed to Disney World or Disneyland, I’m going to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge FIRST.
That also means multiple rides on Star Tours, at least until I finally get chosen as the Rebel Spy (y’all, I literally dressed up as Jyn Erso and STILL didn’t get to be the Rebel Spy, so I have NO idea how that works, but tell Disney I really really want that honor, please?). Okay, I digress…I also love the new Star Wars shows that we’ve been getting on Disney+, including the latest series Skeleton Crew. But the best part of Skeleton Crew is that it has obviously been created by people who love Disney, specifically Disney Parks. That means you’ll find TONS of Disney Parks Easter Eggs in each episode — and I AM HERE FOR IT.
I’ve actually been surprised at the amount of Easter Eggs I’ve uncovered on the show, and every time I notice one, I’m pretty much a little kid again, pointing and screaming in delight. So let’s look at the Easter Eggs I’ve found on the show so far.
RX Droid
In the first episode of Skeleton Crew, the kids are going to school and they have a bus driver that Disney Parks fans will recognize IMMEDIATELY.
It’s an RX droid, just like the one that was first introduced in Star Tours and the one who now mixes up some mad beats in Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
These droids were, apparently, way more popular than anyone ever thought.
Captain EO
However, there was an Easter Egg in the second episode that blew my mind and it’s a nod to Captain EO. CAPTAIN EO! Okay, so Captain EO was a 3D sci-fi short film that was part of an attraction in EPCOT and Disneyland from 1986 through 1998. The movie was co-written and overseen by George Lucas, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and starred Michael Jackson as the title character. It was part of an attraction that used 3D effects, as well as in-theater effects. More importantly, Captain EO had a sidekick that was a small flying creature named Fuzzball.
Well, Fuzzball just turned up on the second episode of Skeleton Crew. So now that Fuzzball is canon in Star Wars, does that mean Captain EO is part of the Star Wars universe? Well, as far as I’m concerned, sure, let’s run with that! Honestly, Captain EO always felt a little Star Wars-ish, so this totally makes sense. Also, when can we get some new Fuzzball merchandise? My wallet is ready!
Anyway, we get why this is such a great nod to a Disney attraction — Captain EO was the first joint project between Disney and Lucasfilm.
Pirates of the Caribbean
Did you ever expect to see a Pirates of the Caribbean reference in a Star Wars show? I didn’t, but we got one anyway. In the second episode, the kids are taken to the brig, aka the jail. As the jailer hangs the keys to the kids’ cell up on a hook, you hear a familiar whistling in the distance, or at least it’s familiar to Pirates of the Caribbean fans. Well, that was 100% intentional.
On the official Star Wars X account, the show’s sound designer, David W. Collins, said: “I am guilty of whistling on microphone. We were all looking at that scene together, and I said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we just did an homage to Pirates of the Caribbean?’ Port Borgo really reminded me of Tortoga from Pirates of the Caribbean which is a movie that I just really loved.’ He then whistles the familiar tune of the pirates in the ride trying to call over the dog with the keys.” Um…LOVE IT!

The showrunners also loved it. Collins said, “Jon Watts and Chris Ford loved it. And I was just, so happy that we got to put that in the mix.” Me, too! ME, TOO!
Starspeeder
The third episode of Skeleton Crew included yet ANOTHER nod to Star Tours. The Starspeeder 1000 spaceship FROM Star Tours can be seen onscreen during a scene in that episode.
You’ll spot the Starspeeder in the scene where the kids are rushing to get away from Port Borgo. There are some exterior shots of the kids’ ship surrounded by other ships, including a small orange Starspeeder 1000 flying by. It’s a blink-and-you-miss-it kind of moment, but it’s there.
Okay, yes, someone loves Star Tours (and we love them for giving us all these Star Tours Easter Eggs).
Y’all — this is just the TIP of the iceberg of Disney and Star Wars Easter Eggs you’ll find by watching the show. For example, the droid on the pirate ship the kids end up on is SM-33, as in SMEE. There’s even a nod to the Holiday Special, which quite literally made me pause the episode to rewind it to look at it again. There are also a ton onf nods to other Star Wars properties. Quite literally, this show is a love letter to Star Wars fans. I can’t wait to see what future episodes have in store for us.
