Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you’ve heard of a little Australian Blue Heeler named Bluey who has taken the world by storm.
The series is incredibly popular globally thanks to the show’s characters, new “minisodes“, merchandise, and more. It was recently announced that a Bluey movie is in the works, and the show’s creator has shared his thoughts on it.
It’s official — a Bluey movie is officially happening! The first-ever animated feature film for this adorable little pup is expected to hit theaters in 2027 before it eventually ends up on Disney+.
The movie will be written and directed by Joe Brumm, the creator of the original show. The movie continues Bluey’s adventures of growing up and living with her Mom, Dad, and sister, Bingo. The original voice actors will be back as well!
In the wake of the movie announcement, the show’s creator, Joe Brumm, has penned a letter to share some news — some good, and some “trifficult.” The good news, of course, is the Bluey movie announcement.
The bad news is that Brumm has announced he will be taking a break from his involvement in the television series. The recent, longer episode of the show that just aired — “The Sign” — will mark Brumm’s TV finale for the show unless he decides to come back after this break.
He shared, “I always said I wouldn’t keep making the show if I thought I couldn’t make any new season as good as the last,” and that would have been the case with a potential season four had he continued working.
Brumm continued, “Bluey has completely changed my life. It’s been an immensely satisfying thing to be a part of, more than I can really put into words. To walk away from it while it’s at such a height will seem crazy to some but, for now, I am finding it difficult to reach back genuinely into that four to six-year-old world and write authentically.”
He reiterated that this was NOT an announcement about the end of the show — Bluey lives on! But, he will be focusing on the movie in the interim while the television crew will continue making excellent content.
The movie comes off the back of Bluey being the most-watched series on Disney+ globally with more than 50.5 billion minutes watched on the streaming service, according to Disney. We are super excited to see this little cattle dog on the big screen in 2027! As always, keep following the Disney Food Blog for your latest Disney movie news and updates.
