GUESS WHAT!!!! It’s NATIONAL PIE DAY!!!!
Today, in honor of this most momentous occasion, we couldn’t resist sharing with you a few of our very favorites. Whether they inspire you to bake a pie of your own, or plan a trip and let Disney do the baking for you — well, you’re welcome.
1. Peanut Butter, Banana, and Candied Bacon Pie From Boardwalk Bakery
So many truly wonderful things have come out of BoardWalk Bakery since it reopened after a major renovation last year.
While some classics remain, others, like the Cheesecake Brownie, received makeovers as well. But the real story are the amazing newcomers to the menu! One of my favorites, hands down, is the Peanut Butter, Banana, and Candied Bacon Pie.
The tart starts with a Chocolate Short Dough Crust. Peanut Butter is introduced to the party via the Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Filling, which is pie poetry. Because as much as I love rich peanut butter filling, this lighter approach is killer.
This sweet and salty goodness is wrapped up in a Chocolate Glaze. Add to that a little mound of creamy Banana Topping, and a sprinkling of Candied Bacon, and you’ve got a winner!
Sound awesome? Make a similar version at home with this recipe!
2. Lobster and Scallop Fisherman’s Pie From the Epcot Food and Wine Festival
Many of the pies that stand out from the crowd at Disney are savory rather than sweet. Case in point: the beloved Lobster and Seafood Fisherman’s Pie from the Ireland Marketplace Booth at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival!
We’ve been enjoying this delicious for the last several years and hope it comes back again this year!
This hearty, casserole-like main course consists of large chunks of Lobster and other Seafood in a delicious Lobster Bisque. The mixture is covered with a “crust” of Mashed Potatoes, which is covered with Irish Cheddar Cheese! It will definitely warm you up on cold winter nights!
The dish is a little challenging to make, but if you’d like to try it, check out our recipe and give it a go at home. Why not? We have 7 1/2 months to go before the Food and Wine Festival is here again!
3. Mango Pie From Yak & Yeti Restaurant
When it to a pie that’s a bit more exotic, I love to head over to Yak & Yeti Restaurant in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
You’ll find this beautifully themed restaurant in the Asia section of the park, and in addition to their delicious savory fare with an Asian twist, be sure to save room for dessert! If you’re sticking with the pie genre, it’s the Mango Pie you’ll want to try.
With a Shortbread Crumb Crust, this cold and creamy pie has a sweet-tart flavor that’s perfectly refreshing during a hot Florida day. And the portion is big enough to share!
Honorable Mentions
We couldn’t let you go without a couple of honorable mentions!
First up, the savory and classic flavors of the Chicken Pot Pie from 50s Prime Time Cafe in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Make with a twist –puff pastry instead of a top crust — this is a comfort food home run! Make it at home with this recipe!
And if you can’t imagine visiting the Sunshine State without sampling a little Key Lime deliciousness, be sure to check out the fan favorite Key Lime Tart at Olivia’s Cafe in Disney’s Old Key West Resort. Topped with Meringue, it’s a thing of beauty! Make it at home with our DIY recipe.
If you order the Caramel Apple Pie at the Wilderness Lodge’s Whispering Canyon Cafe to share, be prepared for a fork fight! It may not look like anything terribly special, but this is some of the best apple pie I’ve ever had!
And finally, when you’re looking for something hearty, savory, and stick to your ribs, order up this Cottage Pie at one of my favorite Epcot spots, the Rose & Crown Pub and Dining Room. And yep — we have this recipe for you, too!
There you go! Some killer pies — and lots of recipes! — just in case you need an idea for today’s National Pie Day celebration. And with so many yummo ideas, and I think we should make it Pie Weekend!! Whaddya think?!

Every pie shown above looks delicious. Especially the lobster pie. I’m suffering a terrible pang of ” I wish I was there.”

Oh, A.J. You forgot the pecan pie at Boatwright’s. It’s just sooooo good! It’s even better than my Aunt Mary Anne’s recipe. (please don’t tell her…)

Very good picks, AJ! I love the mango pie from Y&Y. I would love to try the lobster pie and have copied the recipe that you have so wonderfully provided for us (the PB banana pie recipe, too). I also love the looks of the apple caramel pie. This will be a fun and busy Winter for baking at my home. Thanks!

Oh, that mango pie. Going on the advice of the site, we made reservations that would coincide with the afternoon parade, and we even managed second floor window seats! But the service was so fast and our food was served so quickly that we finished our food before the parade began. We wanted to see the parade from the that vantage point, but we didn’t want to tie up the table without ordering, so we opted for dessert. I’m so glad we did! It was amazing. It was described to me by our waited as “sort of a key lime pie texture, and sweeter”. I adore real key lime pie and this was miles above any that I’ve ever had, even in the Keys.

TEABAGS?!?!?! They give you TEABAGS for Afternoon Tea!?!?!?
Thanks for the warning. I don’t care how good the food might be, I will be sure to avoid this place.

By the way, a company called Kenny’s makes the pies. Have called them…pie is reasonably priced. Add in dry ice & shipping & you might as well fly to Disney!!!!
