While Disney’s Animal Kingdom may not have the same number of dining options as the other parks, several of the park’s locations are fan favorites.
Tusker House is particularly popular as a breakfast location (and it’s an all-day character meal, featuring classic characters — including Mickey! — in safari gear). Yak and Yeti is known for its amazing decor, flavorful food, and immersive theming. Flame Tree Barbecue is one of the most popular and beloved Counter Service options in the whole of Disney World, and Pandora’s Satu’li Canteen has also upped the Quick Service ante. And the park’s opened Signature Restaurant, Tiffins, is accompanied by one of our personal favorite watering holes here at the DFB, Nomad Lounge.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom offers great opportunities to try some new foods and enjoy unique experiences. Simply click on any of the links below to learn more about each restaurant and find all of our dining reviews for that location!
Oasis
Rainforest Café has a large menu of dishes everyone can enjoy. This jungle-centric restaurant is sure to please. The huge selection includes an array of sandwiches, burgers, seafood options, salads, and much more, with many items featuring a tropical twist.
Discovery Island
Creature Comforts is the Animal Kingdom Starbucks location. This is where you can grab the same specialty drinks and pastries from your local Starbucks. But thanks to signature Animal Kingdom theming, it’s likely quite different from any Starbucks you’ve ever visited before!
Eight Spoon Cafe has a knack for serving up some truly unique snack options in Animal Kingdom. The current menu features a variety of yummy baked mac and cheese dishes, along with a few more surprises (like a Pulled Pork-Jelly Doughnut Sandwich)!
The Feeding Ground While there are plenty of popcorn stands in Disney World, The Feeding Ground is also home to a few unique cocktails, as well!
Flame Tree Barbecue is a popular counter service spot in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where guests with a beastly hunger can dine in a lush outdoor paradise overlooking Discovery River. It features barbecue classics (along with a few twists)!
Isle of Java serves coffee and breakfast pastries (including the Tiger Tail Chocolate Twist) on the menu. In need of something cool and refreshing? The colorful Macaw or Party Parrot layered slushies might hit the spot!
Nomad Lounge serves hand-crafted cocktails, non-alcoholic specialty drinks, and small plates. African, Asian, and South American wines and beers are served, and these regions also feature the flavors of specialty cocktails. This spot itself is so relaxing and welcoming. Whether you choose to sit inside or on the outdoor covered patio offering views of Discovery River, you may want to abandon the desire to travel so you can sit and stay awhile in this truly lovely lounge.
Pizzafari offers quick service lunch and dinner in a themed environment almost as colorful and wild as some of the animals that call Animal Kingdom home. Pizzafari offers plenty of indoor seating (along with some outdoor tables), colorfully painted wall murals, themed rooms filled with detail and design surprises, and hearty Italian-American quick-service entrees, including… pizza. 😉
The Smiling Crocodile is a small snack stand (with a cute name!). This stand tends to operate seasonally when more guests are in the park. But when it’s open, you’ll often find something unexpected on the menu. With a frequently-changing menu, it’s worth a stop if you see it open to check out what The Smiling Crocodile is serving!
Terra Treats is typically open seasonally for busy days in the park, and since the menu tends to change with some frequency, you never know quite what you’ll find. Most recently, it’s served snack-sized slices of pizza.
Tiffins offers Signature Dining in Disney’s Animal Kingdom park. With the celebration of travel serving as the central theme, the menu and atmosphere reflect the locales that inspired the park itself. Beautiful artwork — much of which inspired the creation of the park — hangs in each of the three dining rooms, and guests are encouraged to explore and enjoy the displays the same way you would experience an art gallery.
Pandora – The World of Avatar
Pongu Pongu as the story goes, is run by an expat who paid a visit to Pandora… and loved it so much he decided to stay and open up shop! Along with non-alcoholic and alcoholic sips, Pongu Pongu is also home to an exclusive Pandora snack: Pongu Lumpia, a spring roll filled with cream cheese and pineapple.
Pongu Pongu means “Party Party” in the language of Na’vi.
Satu’li Canteen is a space that celebrates the culture and art of the Na’vi of Pandora. The menu is “inspired by Pandora’s bounty,” with an international influence on the cuisine. Customizable bowls and Steamed Pods (twists on Bao Buns), along with unique drinks and desserts, are available at this lunch and dinner spot.
Africa
Dawa Bar is a boozy haven in the middle of a very busy part of Animal Kingdom. The drinks are strong, and the ambiance is casual. Many (like me, AJ!) consider the Dawa Bar to be among their favorite and most relaxing spots in Disney World. Specialty cocktails here include, but are not limited to, Ngumu Jungle Juice, made with the famous POG (Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava) Juice, Harambe Iced Tea, and an African Margarita.
Harambe Fruit Market is the place to stop when you’re looking for fresh fruit, cold drinks, and other healthy snacks. The Grilled Corn on the Cob — served with or without African spices — is one of our favorite snacks here!
Harambe Market offers Ribs, chicken Bowls, and Mediterranean-style salads. For dessert, there is a Simba Cupcake, and drinks to keep cool include the Frozen Flamingo (a refreshing blend of strawberry and passion fruit).
Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery serves quick bites for breakfast, including pastries and a more substantial breakfast sandwich. Heartier fare for the rest of the day includes more unique selections, including flavorful Marinated Chicken and Pork Flatbreads.
Tamu Tamu Refreshments changes its menu occasionally and currently features an assortment of desserts. It is also the only place you can find Dole Whip (Pineapple Soft-Serve) in Animal Kingdom — with or without rum, or served up in a specialty float! It’s a hidden gem right out in the open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Tusker House is one of the best-kept secrets around when it comes to Disney dining and Character Meals. The food at this all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet is flavorful and interesting, and the characters are high-quality, featuring Donald, Mickey, and friends (like Goofy and Daisy)… all dressed in their Safari best at Donald’s Dining Safari!
Zuri’s Sweets Shop serves classic Disney confections. The bakery cases hold several well-known Disney sweets…. with an Animal Kingdom twist. Many items have received a makeover in tribute to the park’s star residents: the animals!
Asia
Anandapur Ice Cream Truck offers soft serve ice cream and floats on the menu. Chocolate and vanilla are always on offer, but the spot also often features fun seasonal soft-serve treats!
Caravan Road is open seasonally, so keep your eyes alert to see if it is open when you visit. You’ll find a classic cold snack: Shaved Ice! Tropical flavors are featured, with Mango Passion Fruit and a non-alcoholic Pina Colada among your options. That said, of-age guests may opt to add vodka to their Shaved Ice of choice.
Drinkwallah is the place to be if you need a cold drink on a hot day in Animal Kingdom’s Asia! Featuring frozen drinks (such as Frozen Coca-Cola), this is also a spot to pick up a few snack items, such as glazed pecans and almonds.
Mahindi is a humble cart selling popcorn, glazed nuts, and refillable popcorn buckets (including specialty souvenir versions).
Mr. Kamal’s serves a small selection of unique snacks for hungry guests. Stop by if you’re looking for a healthier bite like hummus with fresh vegetables and pita. The menu changes frequently here, and while the spot used to serve only vegetarian items, current savory hot snacks include Chicken Dumplings and Mr. Kamal’s Seasoned Fries served with tasty dipping sauces.
Royal Anandapur Tea Company is a hidden gem in Animal Kingdom’s Asia. This spot is actually one of the most well-themed Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea kiosks in Disney World. While it serves up all of the tasty Joffrey’s specialty espresso beverages, the emphasis at this particular location is on tea, offering a variety of tea selections from around the world.
Thirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks serve up drinks and snacks in a grab-and-go fashion for adventurous “trekkers” on their way to or from Expedition Everest. Snacks feature mostly park staples like popcorn and ice cream novelties. Drinks include specialty cocktails and fun mocktails. The beer selection offers some fun finds like Tiger Beer Asian Lager, Victory Golden Monkey Draft, and even Kungaloosh Spiced Excursion Ale
Warung Outpost is a beverage stand selling assorted non-alcoholic beverages and beer.
Yak & Yeti is a unique and beautifully-themed dining location. This table service restaurant offers a flavorful fusion of Asian cuisine, complete with special Disney touches… all in a wonderfully detailed Nepalese-style setting. You’ll experience tempting dishes like pot stickers, lettuce cups, ribs, seafood curry, Lo Mein, soups and salads, stir-fried and sweet and sour meats, hot teas, and delicious desserts.
Yak & Yeti Local Foods Café is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This counter service component to Yak and Yeti Restaurant, also known as Local Food Cafes, serves hearty portions of pan-Asian specialties. (P.S. This spot has one of my favorite Counter Service desserts in Disney World!)
Yak & Yeti Quality Beverages is a little window is most famous for serving the Yak Attack frozen (adult) beverage. But you’ll also find a few entrees (get your Turkey Legs in Animal Kingdom here!), snacks from the neighboring Local Food Cafes, and draft beer (including Safari Amber).
DinoLand, U.S.A.
Corn-Ivores is where you can find hot and fresh popcorn – in a box or a special souvenir bucket – in addition to ice cold beverages.
Dino-Bite Snacks is located in the DinoLand, U.S.A. section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and this spot serves up ice cream, cookies, churros and cold drinks. Be on the lookout for seasonal ice cream sandwiches throughout the year — they never fail to impress!
Restaurantosaurus has a fairly limited menu, but the setting is anything but! As the story goes, Paleontology students turned their home base into a restaurant, and now you get to peruse all their cool props and equipment (complete with plenty of sight gags and punny humor) while you eat. Seriously, take some time to do a little “research” of your own by exploring all the fun little details before or after your meal.
And guess what? The Restaurantosaurus Lounge is also tucked into this Counter Service location! Small bites and cocktails are served up in a surprisingly relaxing little corner of this otherwise bustling spot. Hours can be limited, but you’ll find a sign posted outside of the restaurant letting you know when it’s an option. Cheers!
Trilo-Bites was once known as the place in Animal Kingdom to find those huge turkey legs, but these days the menu features cold treats… along with a few surprises. It’s almost a sure bet that you’ll happen upon an Ice Cream Float, Waffle Cone, or Milkshake. But keep your eyes peeled because in addition to the ice cream treats, you’ll also find the unique Buffalo Chicken Chips here!
Frozen Treat Carts can be found in various lands around the park, including Discovery Island, DinoLand, Asia, and Africa. The artwork on some of the carts is so intricate and lovely that you may just want to keep your eyes peeled for them, even if you don’t plan on picking up a frozen novelty treat like a Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar. But, hey, while you’re there… 😉
Joffrey’s Coffee and Tea kiosks are available around all of the Disney parks and serve up specialty coffee, teas, and a selection of bakery items.
