Snack Series: Orange Bird Souvenir Cup at Sunshine Tree Terrace

Thanks to our Disney Food for Families columnist, Erin Foster, we’ve got a happy little treat to share today!

Along with the awesome Citrus Swirl snack, the classic Orange Bird is roosting once more at Sunshine Tree Terrace!

The souvenir cup sells for $7 and can be filled with any soda. (Kind of a steep price for such a little bird cup, but can you put a price on history? ;-D)

News! Animal Kingdom’s Sundowner Celebration Will Include Food Demos and Tastings

Do you usually call it a day and head out of the Animal Kingdom after the daily parade? Me too. Well, I’m revising my June itinerary to include the new Sundowner Celebration taking place June 3 – 30, 2012!

From what we hear, celebrations will begin each day after the parade and take place until park closing time.

Look for Anandapur to celebrate with special food and beverages, tea brewing and cooking demos.

Model Shots: Be Our Guest Restaurant and Gaston’s Tavern

Thanks again to reader and super Disney Food Scrapbooker Heather W. for some awesome photos from the Magic Kingdom Fantasyland Model, currently in residence at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Of course, our biggest focus here are the upcoming restaurants — Be Our Guest Restaurant and Gaston’s Tavern — scheduled to open in “late 2012.”

We see Beast’s Castle looming in the upper right-hand corner!

This wall serves as the gateway to the new area. Here is where Belle’s Cottage where “Enchanted Tales with Belle” will take place. I can almost see Belle strolling through with a book in hand!

Nestled at the base of the Beast’s Castle is Gaston’s Tavern. As guests approach the pub in this French village, the impressive fountain highlights Gaston’s super-ego.

Inside this counter-service location, a huge portrait will further showcase Gaston’s love — of himself! After the tavern, venture across the way to Bonjour! Village Gifts.

Yes, we are all eagerly anticipating the opening of the imagineering marvel, Be Our Guest Restaurant! We’ve seen a sneak peek of the ballroom with a breathtaking mural, and read descriptions of the various dining rooms.

First Look! Food Photos From Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe in Disney California Adventure

We’ve had a great time sharing sneak peeks of many of the new dining locations opening soon in Disney California Adventure! Be sure to check out the great menu options at Flo’s V-8 Cafe, Sally’s Cozy Cone Motel, Carthay Circle Restaurant, Trolley Treats, and Clarabelle’s Ice Cream!

And one more of the places on Buena Vista Street I am really looking forward to is the Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe. Why? Because Disney California Adventure NEEDS a good counter service spot where one can grab a great sandwich and a STARBUCKS beverage!

At a recent media preview I was able to check out some of the items that will be served at the Cafe, and it looks like there will be some pretty tasty options…

I got some great photos of the dishes that will be served here at the Fiddler. The first thing I noticed about the menu, though, was that the items appeared to be very similar to what is being served over in Disneyland at the Jolly Holiday Bakery. 

This is not a bad thing by any means; Jolly Holiday is fantastic! Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Fiddler, Fifer & Practical will be serving a wide variety eats:

  • Breakfast: Freshly baked pastries & cinnamon rolls, breakfast sandwiches and wraps
  • Lunch and Dinner: Hot and cold sandwiches, salads, and two daily soups

Review: New Steak and Pork Platter at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe

Thanks to our Disney Food for Families columnist, Erin Foster, we have a review of a hearty new meal at Magic Kingdom’s Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe!

This Frontierland hot spot is still sporting their standard menu, which offers some great options like giant angus burgers, a barbecue pork sandwich, and a taco salad.

But there are a few new options that have been added for the summer season!

Now, for a whopping $14.49, you can kick up your heels with the brand new Steak and Pork Platter. It’s served with corn bread, and choice of corn on the cob (also new on the menu), apple slices, or fries.

First Look: Mad T Party Drinks and Eats at Disney California Adventure

This past Friday, Disney California Adventure surprised visitors with a soft opening of their new nighttime dance party, the Alice-in-Wonderland-themed Mad T Party.

Knowing that the “Rabbit Hole” was opening at 7:00, we got there just before so we could see the whole grand opening first night extravaganza. You can see by the photo below, that the soft opening wasn’t too big of a secret; lots of people!

As far as seating goes, Disney really did it right. I am totally in love with the Linvin plastic furniture that they purchased to fill the area. If you want one of these in your home, though, it’s going to set you back about $895 (I did the research, I hope Disney got a bulk discount!). There are plenty of chairs, but you might have to fight me for a purple one….

While waiting for the Rabbit Hole to open, which basically meant walking though a long tunnel of mist, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum greeted guests and put on a little banter to entertain us while we waited. I wonder if these guys shaved their heads for the part?

Hidden Gem: Germany Wine Flights

The only thing better than having a fantastic experience at Walt Disney World is finding a good deal. 😉 The wine flights you can purchase in Germany’s Weinkellar in Epcot definitely represent both!

I’m pretty sure this is a great deal for Disney World — three, two-ounce pours for just over $9 (including an ice wine option!). For that price, you get to customize your wine flight by choosing from six different German wines: three of the choices are regular white wines, while the last three are dessert wine offerings.

2012 Epcot Food and Wine Festival News: New Marketplaces and More!

As we mentioned in our recent round-up, the 2012 Epcot Food and Wine Festival has upped the ante by one day this year — extending its original dates to September 28-November 12, 2012!

But that’s not all the new info we have about our favorite time of the year!

This year, the Epcot Food and Wine Festival will debut a Vegan Marketplace Booth, called TERRA (which we reported on last week), and a new Florida Marketplace Booth!

At TERRA, guests will indulge in vegan specialties like Trik’n Chick’n Curry with Basmati Rice and Chili Colorado with House Made Chips and Cashew Cheese (YUM!).

Review: Aquavit Shot in Epcot’s Norway

In my all-consuming quest to try each and every drink around the World Showcase of Epcot, today we visit the Norway Pavilion for our first sip of Aquavit!

I had never tried Aquavit, but my friend was game, so we decided that today would be the day to savor this important Scandinavian spirit.

Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe features Linie Aquavit, so named because it crosses the equator, or “Linie” (did you know the Equator had a nickname?), twice during the aging process. How, you ask? Apparently, in a hull of a ship, secured in sherry casks.

Now as we come upon the anniversary of this challenge, we’ve been inspired by all of you who have attempted — and even conquered — the Cupcake Crawl! And because Disney Cupcakes are one of our passions around here — Yep, we’ve created a sequel!!

The Disney Food Blog’s 2012 “Walt Disney World Cupcake Crawl” Strategy

Are you ready to take on yet another sugary challenge in the name of sweet snacks?!

Follow the 2012 crawl step by step, or opt to mix and match the 2011 and 2012 challenges. Cupcake success is accomplished when you’ve visited these six locations and sampled at least 7 different cupcakes.

Remember that many Disney World cupcakes are offered seasonally, so if you need to substitute out new options for the ones below, that’s A-OK with us!
