Disney World’s Raglan Road Pub offers guests a wealth of Irish charm and classic dishes with a contemporary twist. I know that sounds like a pamphlet, but it’s pretty much whatcha get! You’ll find this spot in Downtown Disney, right next to Cooke’s of Dublin, so you’ll be surrounded by Little Ireland as soon as you get there.
Atmosphere
Raglan Road is rarely quiet in the evenings. You’ll want to come here when you’re ready to have a bit of fun, indulge in some delicious food, and enjoy the raucous goings-on around you. That’s not to say you’ll feel as though you’ve wandered into a frat party; even though Raglan Road is on Pleasure Island, the feeling here is of a decidedly more upscale, slightly tipsy cocktail party vs. the final night of Rush Week.
Upon entering the restaurant, the massive expanse of polished wood will surely be the main draw for your eye. Although this place is easily the size of four or five pubs back in Ireland, the decor remains similar — wood paneling, flooring, bars, tables, and booths; brass fixtures; old world feel. What’s different here is the soaring ceiling and cupola, edged by beautiful stained glass panes that make you feel like you’re sitting inside a sunset when you visit at dusk.

On a beautiful Southern California day, there’s no better way relax in the afternoon than to sit outside, listen to a jovial jazz trio, munch on some incredible eats, and “Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez!” And that’s exactly what you can do if you choose to dine at Disneyland’s French Market.
Atmosphere
Nestled in the heart of New Orleans Square, French Market is what I like to refer to as “counter-service with style!” With an outdoor “courtyard” seating area capped on one end by the stage where jazz trios perform and on the other end by the Mint Julep Bar and delicious food served as artfully as entrees you’d get at any moderately-priced table-service restaurant, this place clearly doesn’t fit under the standard “counter-service” moniker.
A staple in Disneyland since the opening of New Orleans Square in 1966, French Market these days works like a cafeteria inside. Guests wind their trays around the stations, past the old clock, and to the register by the doors. Entree options are limited, but offer quite a bit of freshly prepared food.
Once you’ve taken in all of the decor inside, it’s time to head out and dig in…
Eats
The French Market menu is more in-depth than most counter-service restaurants in Disney parks. There are some incredible choices, and we had to stand there and stare for a while before making our final decisions!
I finally settled on the baked four-cheese pasta and vegetable gratin (vegetarian!), with Cheddar, Gouda, Provolone, and Asiago; shiitake mushrooms; and cauliflower baked with pasta under a crumbly, buttery breadcrumb crust. This came with roasted vegetables and cheddar cornbread. My husband had the Roast Beef Royale with Cognac Peppercorn Jus, smashed potatoes, vegetables, and cheddar cornbread.
(See? I told you this isn’t your normal counter-service.)
Both entrees were HUGE and ab-so-lute-ly delicious. The creamy, decadence of the four-cheese pasta made me feel like I should have spent $40 for the meal at least. It was delectable and so rich that there was no way I could possibly have finished it. And while my husband is a roast beef fan in general, he pronounced this the best he’d had in quite some time.
I’ve got on my calendar a post titled “Disney World vs. Disneyland: Counter-Service,” which seems to be a no-brainer at this point. But wait until you SEE these entrees…
Can you believe — NO paper plates?
And the cornbread — throughout Disneyland — is just incredible. Disneyland cornbread has always gone down in history, and still does.
And, of course, there are other options along the line as well, including some delicious desserts, fresh salads and fruit, and some healthy chicken-and-rice kids’ meals.
Of course, we had to try the famous Disneyland non-alcoholic Mint Julep as well! I’ll admit: not my favorite thing in the world, but I don’t tend to like sweet OR minty drinks, so…
Overall
Disneyland’s French Market is always one of the park’s most oft-recommended counter-service eateries, and it’s clear why it’s stayed at the top of so many lists. The absolutely incredible food coupled with the relaxed atmosphere of the outdoor seating and entertainment makes this spot an oasis in the park.
That said, I suggest that you don’t try to navigate this place during mealtimes on crowded days! A relaxing atmosphere can quickly become hectic when you’ve got hundreds of park guests eyeing your hard-won table! Of course, this is a standard suggestion in any theme park — eat at weird times and you’re all set!
What are your thoughts and/or menu suggestions from French Market? Do you think it deserves its great reputation? Let us know in the comments section below!

Reader Ellen D. and her son headed over to Downtown Disney’s Paradiso 37 recently and sent back a few photos of the restaurant’s new menus. Ellen also sent along photos and reviews of their entrees and dessert (yay!). By the way, if you’d like to read our full review of Paradiso 37, you can find it here! Here we go!
Eats
First off, the food! Ellen wasn’t a huge fan of the Citrus-Barbecued Pork Ribs, saying the spice rub was extremely strong.
This veg entree was created on-the-fly, she says. “The new menu doesn’t have any vegetarian entrees (the previous one did). Our server offered me this. First impression, [Read more…]

An afternoon in Disney California Adventure just calls for a great Disneyland Corn Dog, right? And after that, what other option do you have besides diving immediately into something sweet? We’d been intrigued earlier in the day by the the Sam Andreas Shakes, where the “seismic ice cream” is “delicious to a fault!” (oy.)
Their promise of “extra rich” ice cream and milk shakes won us over, so we headed to the Sam Andreas stand — which happens to be located right across the way from the Farmers Market (we were pretty trapped by the High School Musical parade).
My husband chose the extra thick Vanilla “After Shake,” while I couldn’t help myself and had to go for the “Bug’s Land Sensation” Shaker o’ Mud (chocolate cookies blended into the shake followed by a gummy [Read more…]

My friend and fellow Disney fan, Sarah Holodick, headed over to El Pirata y El Perico last week to enjoy the last few days of this restaurant’s “busy season” run. You’ll be hearing from Sarah a few more times over the next couple of weeks, too! Take it away, Sarah!Atmosphere
Not so long ago, I had the pleasure of trying a “new to me” restaurant as well as a couple old favorites. First, I will highlight my experience at the ever-elusive El Pirata Y El Perico. I went solo on Thursday morning and was surprised to see the menu was different from what I had previously seen at various sites online. I had read it would be from August 15th – September 4th for lunch to help accommodate free dining, so I knew this was my chance to try it out, and I’m [Read more…]

I’m not sure about you, but one of my favorite ways to break my diet is with an OCP or an Oreo (or seven). So it’s exciting to see so many wonderful sandwich cookies mixed into the Magic of Disney! Here are a few of my favorite spots for sandwich cookies…
Cape May Cafe Oreo Bon Bons
Nowhere before has the casual Oreo been elevated to such a haute status. The Cape May Cafe Oreo Bon Bon — a confection built upon an Oreo sandwich cookie — has been a staple at the Cape May Cafe evening Clam Bake for years and has risen to minor cult status among Disney fans.
Climb-able Sandwich Cookie
Trust me, you’ve never seen a sandwich cookie this big! Nestled between a massive paper clip and a pile of dirt, this one might not exactly be appetizing, but it sure is interesting. You’ll find it [Read more…]

Fellow Disney food fans, I want you to close your eyes for a moment and picture the best Disney breakfast you’ve ever had. How did it smell? Taste? How did it make you feel?
Well, here’s my version of that incredible breakfast that you wish you could repeat over and over again…
Atmosphere
Basic. Red and white, soda shop tables and chairs, umbrella’d outdoor seating, pretty much squashed between the buildings on either side. That’s what you’ll find at the classic Carnation Cafe on Disneyland’s Main Street, USA. For the full history of the Carnation Cafe — and all of its former names — check out this great post featuring [Read more…]
