Today, Chef Big Fat Panda’s DIY Disney Recipes column brings us a sweet treat from Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Sanaa! Thanks to Chef Bob Getchell for sending along the recipe. Take it away, Panda!

Hello Disney Foodies! Boy, do I have a treat for you!

I want to be honest and tell you that I procrastinated about this recipe a bit. It is totally out of my comfort zone because I fell into the same trap that I warn against time after time. If you have ever read my articles, you know that I advise you not to “fear the ingredients” — that you can often make a recipe work with a substitution. Well, I feared the ingredients (you’ll see why). We then decided to approach this fantastic dessert from a different perspective. We thought — Let’s try to be as true to the recipe as possible, while finding alternatives that are readily available to most people. With that freedom, here it goes… and after the result, I am glad I stopped being scared of Sanaa’s Chai Cream!

Thanksgiving and Christmas Menus in Walt Disney World Restaurants

I had the chance to chat with Chef Robert Getchell from Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Sanaa Restaurant recently about the holiday menus that are available at Walt Disney World restaurants this year!

Here are the details on holiday dining in Disney restaurants from Chef Getchell:

Most restaurants will offer their whole regular menu, or a slightly limited version of their regular menu, along with a “special for the day.” Specials will be themed to each restaurant, but at the same time will be very familiar to the guests as a traditional family meal.

For example, Sanaa will be offering an African-spiced turkey breast, dark meat gravy, cranberry and dry cherry chutney, and butternut squash as our special for holiday dining.

What Disney Foods Do YOU Crave?

Well, I’ve been home from Walt Disney World for two weeks now, and I’m already craving some dishes and snacks I know I’m going to have on my next trip (um…Karamell Kuche, anyone?).

So, a while back, I asked over on the Disney Food Blog Facebook Page: What Disney Dish Are You Craving Today? I got some fantastic answers! Let’s take a trip down a delicious road of favorite dishes and menu items in Walt Disney World… (Note: You’ll see some sad news about the Jiko Filet with Mac and Cheese about halfway down the page. I’m just warning you.)

Five New Disney World Drinks You’ve Gotta Try

You guys know I’m always looking for new, fun drinks to try, and I had a field day on my recent trip to Orlando! Here are just a few of my new favorites:

Yak and Yeti: Shaved Ice Martini
A.K.A. — the snow cone. This fun drink comes in three flavors — Grape, Cherry, and Citrus/Melon. I chose the shockingly bright green version, which included vodka, midori, and pineapple juice along with my (beloved) sweet and sour. The presentation is the best part, but who WOULDN’T want to try an alcoholic snow cone?! Find it at Yak and Yeti Restaurant in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

La Luce by Donna Scala: Limonata

Disney Food Pics of the Week: Creme Brulee

Creme brulee is one of those desserts that’s found on almost every Disney signature dining restaurant. Made with a custard base and heated, hardened sugar on top, the creme brulee can take on many different flavors. It’s almost like a blank canvas for dessert!

Tips for Picky Eaters in Disney Parks

Let’s face it. Everyone’s got a picky eater. Whether it’s your kid, your Mom, your husband, or YOU, someone in the group doesn’t eat salad, stays away from seafood, or has a thing about not eating anything that isn’t peanut butter.

The great news is, Disney parks are destinations where none of that has to matter. There are enough choices (whether they’re on the menu or not) that everyone can find something to fill their tummies.

There's More to Life Than Burgers and Fries

Here are a few tips I’ve gleaned from my personal experience and from readers about navigating the parks with a picky eater. These are highlighted (and even illustrated) with some great comments from Disney Food Blog Facebook Fans!:

Contact Disney Ahead of Time
If the situation is dire and you liken the picky eating behavior to a special dietary need, you can always call Disney ahead of time to be sure that your needs will be taken care of at any table service restaurant where you’ll be dining. Check our Special Diets at Disney resources to learn more.

Review: Flying Fish Cafe

During April’s 5 Stars to Mickey Bars event, I was very grateful to have the opportunity to dine with some incredible women at the Disney World Boardwalk’s Flying Fish Cafe!

Atmosphere
Flying Fish Cafe has a whimsy about it that you don’t find at many of Disney World’s signature restaurants. The ocean-side carnival theme — including massive and colorful murals on the walls — fits well into the Disney World Boardwalk area. Even a few of the columns in the restaurant look like they’re covered in gold fish scales.
