Under the current theme park reopening guidelines released by the state of California, Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure Park are not able to reopen just yet.
Orange County, where they are located, needs to reach the Yellow risk tier, and it is currently in the Red risk tier (two tiers above yellow). Some have even stated that they expect Disneyland may not be able to reopen until the summer of 2021. But, that isn’t stopping Disneyland from taking steps to get their parks ready.
All of the Disney theme parks around the world are open, except for those at Disneyland Resort.
Recently, California’s theme park reopening guidelines were released, but the guidelines only allow large theme parks, like Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park, to reopen if the county they are located in reaches the lowest (yellow) of California’s tiers. We’ve been keeping an eye out for any more news from California’s Governor Newsom related to COVID-19 and theme park reopenings. Yesterday, California’s theme park reopening guidelines were announced, revealing that the Disneyland Resort theme parks, and all other “larger” theme parks in California, cannot reopen until the county in which they are located reaches the “minimal” tier under the State’s reopening plans.
Disneyland’s President has already noted that the guidelines will keep the park closed “for the foreseeable future,” and others have called the guidelines a “keep theme parks closed indefinitely plan.” But, it seems some California theme parks won’t simply be settling for these guidelines. Instead, some are now considering pursuing legal action.
Today, California Governor Gavin Newsom held his weekly news conference where he provided various updates on the state in the midst of the worldwide pandemic.
During his update, he gave a preview of what we can expect to hear TOMORROW from the state Health Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly, which could include a long-awaited update on theme park guidelines.
Disneyland Resort has been closed for several months now, and without finalized theme park reopening guidelines from the state of California, no reopening date for the parks has been set yet.
In fact, just earlier today we shared that Disneyland was canceling all hotel reservations through the end of October.
All of the Disney theme parks around the world are now open and welcoming guests except for the parks at Disneyland Resort.
Governor Newsom has already sent a team to view the policies in place at Disney World, and soon a team will visit Disneyland as well, but we have still not seen a finalized version of the theme park reopening guidelines.
