New Menu Item: Quinoa Salad at Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Animal Kingdom

We’ve got another great Animal Kingdom menu item to share with you thanks to a DFB Reader who was recently in the park!!

This yummy treat comes from Tamu Tamu Refreshments in the Africa area of AK — Quinoa Salad!

Tamu Tamu Refreshments offers good eats and cold drinks.

Tamu has been improving its menu for over a year now, and even though there’s no under-cover seating, it’s starting to be able to take its place with the other counter-service spots in Animal Kingdom when it comes to food quality!

The relatively new menu shows the vegetarian Quinoa Salad selling for $8.19. A great deal for a full meal in Disney World!

According to our reader, “This salad is made with fried tofu croutons, large cuts of red pepper, vine ripe tomatoes, feta cheese, cucumber, and kalamata olives….with quinoa and romaine lettuce!

The fresh squeezed lemon juice just makes this dressing!”

There is so much going on with in Epcot right now with incredible food! With the Flower and Garden Festival off to a strong start (don’t forget to read our full review of all of the food here!), I think it’s going to be a great Spring at Disney World!

And now we get to tell you about a brand new dessert offering at Liberty Inn in the America Pavilion — Peach Cobbler! But this isn’t just a random new dessert. This cobbler has a story.

It’s a recipe inspired by Mrs. Fisher’s Cookbook, the first African-American Cookbook, published in 1881. The book is part of the Kinsey Collection, an exhibit celebrating African-American art and history, which recently opened in the America Pavilion in World Showcase.

Love the idea and want to see more recipes? You can actually pick up a copy of the book yourself! But now, onto the Cobbler!

The cobbler is baked into the standard Disney counter service disposable black bowl. A word about cobblers: the term encompasses lots of different styles. Some prefer a crumb topping, while others favor a biscuit. Still others make cobblers that resemble pies with pastry shells top and bottom.

While the book speaks to a pie-like creation, this cobbler falls firmly into the crumble category.

Updates: Disney Springs Restaurants

As many of you know, Disney made a big announcement this week for Disney World fans — the expansion and renovation of Downtown Disney in Orlando over the next three years!

As we reported earlier, the new (and improved) area will be called Disney Springs, and construction will double the number of shops and restaurants available to Disney guests.

And since we shared the rumors of new Disney Springs Restaurants a couple of weeks ago, even more rumors are starting to come out!

Will Disney Springs See a “Food Truck Row?”

For example, according to Orlando Business Journal and The Daily City, a “Food Truck Row” may be a major possibility during the new Disney Springs renovation of Disney World’s Downtown Disney.

Dining in Disneyland Review: Maurice’s Treats at the New Fantasy Faire

There are some NEW EATS in Disneyland and we’ve got the scoop!!

With the new Fantasy Faire opening at Disneyland this week, park goers are very excited to get a peek at what has been hidden by walls for months now…

I was lucky enough to score a wristband to one of the Annual Passholder “sneak preview” days just before the official opening.

Atmosphere

I have to say there is nothing like a brand new, sparkling area at a Disney Park. I loved the themeing and details. The colors were amazing; so bright and fresh even on a gloomy day. (And when I say gloomy, I mean pouring rain.)

You can see in the photo below how dark the sky was, but you can also see how awesome the view at the entrance to Fantasy Faire is (tip: a great spot for a castle photo opp)!

The new area features princesses, princesses and more princesses. But me? I was excited to get in line for the new snack cart, Maurice’s Treats. Belle’s father has cooked up some fun new goodies that I’m sure will be a hit in the park.

Maurice’s Treats stands right across from the new Royal Theatre, and it’s a perfect place to grab a snack before you catch a viewing of “Tangled” & “Beauty and the Beast.”
