Guest Review: Two New Cupcakes at Contempo Cafe in Disney World

Today, we stopped by Contempo Cafe on our way to Chef Mickey’s to see what cupcakes were available.

They had the Red Velvet (which I’ve seen before), and two others I hadn’t seen — the Pineapple Rum Cream Cheese and the Birthday Cake Cupcake. I had to purchase the Birthday Cake Cupcake, because I love sprinkles!

The Birthday Cake Cupcake was vanilla cake with sprinkles baked in the batter, filled with buttercream, and then topped with pink frosting, rainbow sprinkles, and a pink Minnie Mouse cupcake pick. According to the cast members, the cupcake was also available in blue.

It was so good! My husband insisted he ‘didn’t want any cupcake’, but once I got that beauty back to the room and sliced open, he ate half of it when I had my back turned!

Guests will arrive at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and walk through the courtyard of the Majestic Graumann’s Chinese Theatre. Then they will be invited to enter The Great Movie Ride after the attraction is closed with exclusive backstage VIP access!

You’ll get to walk through and dine inside the attraction to experience some of the most classic scenes in motion picture history. See up-close the sets from Busby Berkeley musicals, crime dramas, old-fashioned Westerns, and more!

A new menu has debuted at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

In case you haven’t been to Sci-Fi, it’s basically a giant indoor drive-in theater! The all-day menu (lunch and dinner) is served to guests dining in convertible car/tables (awesome!) while old clips of B-movies are shown on a giant screen. The sky twinkles with “stars,” and there’s even a “concession stand” (aka, the kitchen) at the back of the restaurant.

And we love when we get to share updates about the eats — so let’s take a look!

New Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant Menu

I love the addition of the Buffalo Popcorn Chicken, and I’m SUPER glad that the Picnic Burger was left on the menu! It’s monstrous, but well worth it! (You can read my review here!)

News! Menu Changes at ‘Ohana in Disney’s Polynesian Resort

We’ve got some interesting news about a few menu updates at guest favorite restaurant, ‘Ohana.

According to a server, changes were made to the menu here about a month ago with the posted menu outside of the restaurant still showing the old menu items. Let’s take a look at what’s been updated with this menu-go-round.

‘Ohana Salad Dressing Update

The fan-favorite honey lime dressing has been a stand-out at ‘Ohana as well as a much requested recipe, however it did not make the latest menu cut. Here’s Leslie’s take:

The new salad features a passion fruit vinaigrette with chunks of passion fruit and mandarin oranges. I don’t eat salad, but my husband said the salad was just OK. He really liked the old honey lime dressing. In fact, he usually eats the whole bowl of salad himself, but left about half of it this time.

DFB reader Anne T. also wrote to let us know about the change. She feels similarly about the new dressing: “The new dressing is still good, but not as good as the honey lime,” she says.

News! Phineas and Ferb Reusable Lunchbags at Subway Restaurants for a Limited Time

I was excited about trying the new Perry sugar cookie and the Doofenslurper on my next trip to Epcot.

But if you can’t wait that long, check out your local Subway to find some cool P&F gear — and a healthy kids’ meal, too.

Just in time for Platypus Day on March 2, Subway and Disney have announced a partnership that will bring Phineas, Ferb, and Perry to reusable lunch bags.

The bag comes as part of the sandwich chain’s Fresh Fit for Kids meals, and includes a download code for a Phineas and Ferb episode, app, or song.

And today, we’re back with more great news from our favorite Irish pub in Walt Disney World’s Downtown Disney!

Raglan Road debuted their awesome new “Host the Roast!” feast on February 3rd, and it’s available every Sunday going forward.

Created to honor the custom of Sunday Irish lunch, “Host the Roast!” is a full traditional meal, centered around premium signature roasts. And this is an option that’s priced for groups of six, which means this should definitely be on your list for your next family reunion in Disney World. (Note that if you’re not interested in Hosting the Roast while you’re there, you can always stop into Raglan Road on Sunday to enjoy the Sunday Brunch!)

Are you intrigued? I was! Guests can choose from several roasts, but you need to book at least 48 hours in advance!:

The Roast Rib of Beef, Yorkshire pudding, horseradish cream and rosemary jus, Balsamic glazed carrots, Green beans, roasties and pomme au gratin plus family style dessert. $55 per person

The Roast Pork loin, pork crackling, cider port jus, apple sauce & apple chutney, Balsamic glazed carrots, Green beans, roasties and pomme au gratin plus family style dessert. $47 per person

The Roast Leg of New Zealand Lamb, stuffed with sage & onion, mint sauce and red wine jus, Balsamic glazed carrots, Green beans, roasties and pomme au gratin plus family style dessert. $45 per person

The Roast lemon thyme Chicken, Bread sauce, red wine jus and a family style Chicken & Wild Mushroom Pie with Balsamic glazed carrots, Green beans, roasties and pomme au gratin plus family style dessert. $35 per person

All roasts include a family-style dessert! Choices are:
Gran Marnier Fruit & Custard Trifle or Baked Strawberry & Apple Crumble (gluten free option available)

How to “Host The Roast!”

So here’s how it all works: you book your “roast” with Raglan Road (at least 48 hours in advance), then show up at the correct time on Sunday afternoon. And the fun begins!

The roast is carved table-side (very fun), so the carving cart is wheeled out to the head of your table.

Next, servers bring out an enormous cart laden with the roast and all the trimmings. At our gathering, we were fortunate to have two different roasts: the Beef Standing Rib Roast and the Bone-In Pork Roast.

Each roast is accompanied by many of the same items, but there are a few differences in side dishes and sauces (see the menu listing above for details). Horseradish Cream and Rosemary Jus perfectly accented the beef roast and its side dishes.

Perfect Mommy/Daughter Day: Royal Tea at Waldorf Astoria Orlando!

If you’re looking for an indulgent way to enjoy some elegance at Walt Disney World this year — or scoping out a great way to escape for some mother/daughter (or daddy/daughter!) time — look no further than the Waldorf Astoria Orlando‘s Royal Tea!

Located within Disney World’s Main Gates in the Bonnet Creek area, the Waldorf is close to all the excitement (you can almost touch the Tower of Terror from your hotel room). But you’re worlds away when you’re ready to relax (believe me; it makes SUCH a difference)!

Review: Lucky Fortune Cookery in Disney California Adventure (+ Disneyland Lunar New Year Menu Details!)

This spot might elicit a “wha?!? where’s that?!?” reaction for some since it really doesn’t get its share of the spotlight. But I really enjoy heading to the Lucky Fortune Cookery once in a while when I’m in Disney California Adventure!

The counter service location is a great thematic fit for the Pacific Wharf area of the park and offers some pretty tasty, customizable goodies for those who stumble upon it.

Atmosphere and Themeing

Lucky Fortune Cookery is teensy. The outdoor location is nearly an afterthought — or so it seems. There are three main ordering windows and just a few tables scattered around.

You’re clearly in an industrial section of town here at the Wharf, and the fun lanterns hanging from the rafters give this a sweet “downtown” vibe I think! It’s such a great way to soften an otherwise harsh space.

Tables are scarce, but don’t forget that you’re surrounded by about three other huge restaurants here at the Wharf.
