There’s been ANOTHER update on the airport train set to come to Orlando!

For months we’ve been watching for updates on the Brightline train set to connect South Florida to Orlando and beyond. It went from a confirmed station in Disney Springs to the end of that plan and only the possibility of a station “near” Disney. The train’s path has gradually evolved and we’ve gotten a peek at some of the things complicating its future. But now we have more news.
Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District (“RCID”) is just a few months away from being officially dissolved and some BIG changes could be on the way.

The RCID, which essentially functions as its own county government, has given Disney a lot of control over the land on which it operates in Orlando. But, following Disney’s statements against the Florida Parental Rights in Education bill, the Florida legislature passed a law that will dissolve the RCID in June of 2023. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has insisted that a state-controlled board will take over and Disney will NOT be allowed to control its own government, but not all of Disney’s self-governance might end in Florida.

Things could be changing at the Walt Disney Company, but the Company’s Board of Directors isn’t just sitting back and letting it happen without at least issuing a response.

For a while, we’ve been covering the situation with activist investor Nelson Peltz and Trian Parters/Group. Basically, Peltz has been attempting (for some time) to get a seat on Disney’s Board of Directors. He’s had meetings with both Bob Chapek and Bob Iger, but ultimately Disney has pushed back and refused to offer him a seat, arguing that he is not qualified. Peltz and Trian Partners have since decided to mount a battle for a seat on the Board of Directors, and now Disney has responded in a big way.

Disney is no stranger to lawsuits, and it has been caught in the middle of quite a few lately.

Disney was sued by an investor to obtain documents related to the Company’s handling of the situation with Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill. Plus a Park Pass lawsuit has been filed by Annual Passholders against Disney, Disney was sued over the Genie+ system, and a million-dollar lawsuit was filed against Disney by Magic Key holders too. Now it seems Disney is involved in another lawsuit — this time related to streaming.
It’s never fun to go back home after a magical vacation, but if we have to leave, it’s not very enjoyable to spend hours at the airport.
