Review: Golden Oak Outpost in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland

Looking for some quick eats while touring Disney World’s Frontierland? Are the lines at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe formidable? We have just the stop for you: Golden Oak Outpost.

Located near Splash Mountain, the little counter service stop offers a couple of hearty entree options as well as a few desserts.

I’ve stopped here several times on my travels, especially when this used to be the home of McDonald’s French Fries in Magic Kingdom (“There’s Gold in Them There Fries!”). But I’ve never done a review for you, so let’s get started!

Atmosphere

Golden Oak Outpost sports the same rustic, Wild West feel that you encounter throughout Frontierland.

The name — Golden Oak — is a reference to Walt Disney’s Golden Oak Ranch in California. The name is found elsewhere at Walt Disney World in the ultra upscale neighborhood of single family homes that are being built adjacent to Fort Wilderness Campground nearby.

Review: Fairfax Fare Breakfast at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Breakfast time!!! Today we are at Fairfax Fare in Disney’s Hollywood Studios for a quick nosh.

One of my favorite things to do when I’m in Disney World is combine exercise with research, so while I was on a morning walk on the BoardWalk during a recent trip, I headed in to the Studios to scrounge up some breakfast.

Since Fairfax Fare is one of the only quick service locations for a hot breakfast in the Studios — and it’s fairly close to the front of the park — it seemed like a good choice! Let’s see how it goes…

Atmosphere

Fairfax Fare is located in the Sunset Ranch Market area of Hollywood Studios. This super convenient spot is at a crossroads of sorts between Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster. It’s the perfect place to await your fastpass time!

The counter service location, like all of the Sunset Ranch Market stops, is a tiny walk up counter, and features a small menu.

Fairfax Fare -- Outside

Seating for Fairfax Fare is shared with other Sunset Ranch Market locations, and is made up of outdoor pavilions and tables with umbrellas. I prefer the pavilions, since they’re fitted with fans overhead.

Much of the seating is covered, although the early morning sun does tend to spill in anyway. It’s perfectly fine though for a quick stop.

Eats

We’ve stopped by Fairfax Fare recently for a review of some seriously good gourmet hot dogs. But this time, we were visiting a bit earlier in the day.

If you’d like to sample their breakfast menu though, you’d better get here early. Like most of the park breakfast spots, they only serve the meal until 10:30am! (Yup; I was rushing to get here on time!)

Snack Series: Cinnamon Sticky Bun at BoardWalk Bakery

Well, my friends…it’s time to tempt  your taste buds yet again! You’ll remember when I visited the newly refurbished Boardwalk Bakery and ate my weight in pastry a few weeks ago… .

News! Liberty Swirl Slush Available Now at Tortuga Tavern in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

We’ve just heard from DFB reader Becky that the Liberty Swirl Slush is now available at Magic Kingdom’s Tortuga Tavern!

The swirled slush consists of cherry and blue raspberry slushes, artfully combined to make a patriotic statement!

Guests can choose to enjoy their red and blue slush out of a standard issue plastic cup with a lid…

Or you can spring for a souvenir stein. At Tortuga Tavern, the stein features a Jolly Roger, complete with pirate hat and crossed swords!

We always love adding to our Disney food galleries!

From Margaritas to Ice Cream to Creme Brulee and more, we’re always collecting options and photos to share with you. And we quickly realized that there was one salty snack missing from our gallery list! What’s a trip to Disney without at least one bucket of Popcorn?

I think Disney popcorn is some of the best popcorn anywhere, and while newfangled snacks and treats will come and go, the classics will never go away.

You’ll find carts selling popcorn all over Walt Disney World and Disneyland, as well as in some of the resorts that also draw visitors, like Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. But there’s even more variety to it than that, so we’ve put together this handy gallery to showcase all the great popcorny options available!

You Never Get Tired of Disney Popcorn!

We’re going to share with you some of our favorite popcorn and popcorn-related goodness, but be sure to let us know your favorites or anything we don’t mention in comments below! Also, please keep in mind, especially in regard to menu items that include popcorn, that menus are constantly changing, so you may not always see these items when you visit a restaurant.

Disney Popcorn: A Classic

In need of some popcorn at Disney? You never have far to look. In fact, if your first stop is Magic Kingdom, you encounter a popcorn stand as soon as you set foot onto Main Street USA! Some of our readers say that Disney popcorn is the best-tasting in the world — and who am I to disagree?

And another great bit of news — Disney popcorn is vegan and gluten-free! Popcorn is naturally devoid of gluten. But the kernels are popped in a combination of coconut, corn, and canola oil, and are seasoned with kosher salt, so there are no animal products used. (Disney cautions that because the popcorn is prepared in outdoor locations, there is potential for cross-contamination. When in doubt of a food’s ingredients, be sure to ask for an ingredient list.)

Review: Minute Maid Frozen Lemonade and Orangeade

Call off the hunt. I have found the perfect snack for a hot, hot Florida day: Minute Maid Frozen Lemonade and Orangeade!

These have been around the parks for YEARS, but I couldn’t give up my addiction to that soft, gushy Frozen Lemonade to try these Minute Maid versions. Now it’s time to take a closer look!

The soft frozen lemonade is available in three different varieties — regular Lemonade, Strawberry Lemonade, and Orangeade.

The soft frozen snacks come in 12-ounce portions, which are pretty large actually. While sampling these, I regularly wrapped the cup in  paper towels and stuck it into a cup holder on my camera bag to let it get a little more melty before digging in again.

One place that I never tire of is Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe in Epcot’s Norway Pavilion.

This charming spot, located to the left as you make your way back through the pavilion, is home to wonderful surprises. You all know my passionate love for the not-too-sweet, just-perfect schoolbread!

But it’s just the beginning of the awesome you’ll find in this tiny bakery. With rice cream, the traditional lefse (OK, I don’t think it’s that awesome, but a lot of you do!), and jam-filled waffles, there’s no shortage of fabulous desserts.

And wait! We can’t forget the crazy cute new Viking mousse, or the Aquavit shots (woah Nellie!)!
