Guest Review: Pinocchio Village Haus — Now With Flatbreads!

We’re welcoming back guest author Melissa Sue Sorrells Galley with a review of Pinocchio Village Haus. And since the new menu was recently revealed, we’ll also include a review of one of the new flatbreads available!

After recovering from One More Disney Day, I headed back into the Magic Kingdom where I found myself exiting Mickey’s PhilharMagic to the realization that I was starving.

That’s when a Cast Member with a puppet waved at me, and I knew what I had to do.

Atmosphere

Tucked between the new Fantasyland construction walls and it’s a small world, Pinocchio Village Haus is a bit confusing. It’s in Fantasyland, and the food is Italian, but the restaurant itself is based on the Bavarian architecture that Walt and Lillian Disney were so fond of.

In fact, it’s set in a little German village, where there’s oompah playing over the speakers and you order lunch in what appears to be a charming courtyard.

New! Ice Pop Stand in Epcot’s Japan Pavilion

Beat the Disney World summer heat at this kiosk in Epcot’s Japan Pavilion that is now serving Ice Pops…for a song!

These snacks are a pretty good size, and cost only $1.00 each (UPDATE: We’ve just had a note from a reader that these are now $2.00. Still a good price, but not as good as before…). Bargain! Flavor choices are lemon, melon, orange, grape, and strawberry.

Disney Food Tips: Everything You Need to Know About Disney Snacks

We all know how important snacks have become in Disney World and Disneyland.

With some serious innovation on Disney’s part, snacks are no longer just a between meal throwaway, but something that inspires full-blown planning sessions! The day of snacks has dawned in Disney parks!

A lot of this is due to folks wanting to get the best value for their snack credits on the Disney Dining Plan in Walt Disney World. But the newly available variety of snacks also means that it’s much easier to piece together a less expensive mini-meal than it ever has been before.

Note that in mid-2015, Disney updated the definition for a “snack” on the Disney Dining Plan. It now includes many more items, like cups of soup, plain caramel apples, two scoops or less of hand-scooped ice cream (yep, sundaes too!), any menu item listed as a side, and any single-serving, non-alcoholic beverages.

We’ve put together a lot of info about Disney snacks over the past few years, and with so many trips coming up for our readers it’s time to share them all in one place.

Don’t waste a credit on an inexpensive and/or less-than-stellar treat; indulge in a snack that will be memorable!

Here are our favorite ways to use a snack credit. One of our favorite tips: if you’re lucky enough to be visiting Epcot during the Epcot Food & Wine Festival, use those snack credits for trying international, tapas-sized dishes.

Spotted: Adventurers Hut in Downtown Disney

Recently, I walked by a kiosk in Pleasure Island. The Adventurers Hut sits right next to what used to be a popular Downtown Disney nightlife spot (that many of us knew well).

Perhaps the Adventurers Hut is supposed to remind us of the beloved and departed Adventurers Club (a moment of silence, please), but I’m not sure it’s helpful. 😉

Trader Sam’s in Disneyland comes a little closer, but without the copius entertainment and multiple rooms. Will they bring a similar establishment back to Walt Disney World? Time will tell… .

Photo Tour: Animal Kingdom’s New Sundowner Celebration

We’re excited to bring our readers more details about the new Sundowner Celebration, taking place in the Animal Kingdom from 3 p.m. each day until park closing.

Festivities will continue until “at least” the end of June, so plan your adventures accordingly!

Along with the awesome Citrus Swirl snack, the classic Orange Bird is roosting once more at Sunshine Tree Terrace!

Review: New! “Macaroon” Cupcake at Art of Animation Resort Food Court

There’s a new cupcake being offered at the newly-opened Art of Animation resort! Thanks to our Disney Food for Families columnist, Erin Foster, we have all the delicious details.

These cupcakes in the new Art of Animation Resort Food court are gorgeous, and a variety of colors are available.

While it’s called a “macaroon cupcake,” the cookies resemble half of what’s being called in bakeries these days a macaron (see the difference between macaroons and macarons here). But how do they taste?

Erin tells us:
They have a classic “macaron-y” almond taste, but the texture is slightly off. Because the cookies are sitting on a big pile of icing, they can get damp. When I tried to pull a cookie off, just a shell-like layer came away at first. Not that this stopped me from eating it. It still had good flavor.

New! “The King” Elvis Presley Cupcake at Disney’s Pop Century Resort

Thanks to reader Susan T., we have a bit of seriously rad information for you: The King Cupcake recently debuted at the Pop Century Resort at Walt Disney World in the Everything Pop food court! As a tribute to Elvis Presley, the cupcake features all of the flavors from the King’s renowned favorite sandwich:

  • Chocolate Cupcake
  • Banana Custard Filling
  • Peanut Butter Frosting
  • Candied Bacon
  • Chocolate Drizzle

This is totally a big hunk ‘o love, right?! Can you believe that?!?

The cupcake was nice and moist. I would’ve liked a bit more banana custard inside, but it was nice and tasty. The peanut butter icing was to die for. You really need to like peanut butter, which I do — so I loved the icing.

First Look: Mad T Party Drinks and Eats at Disney California Adventure

This past Friday, Disney California Adventure surprised visitors with a soft opening of their new nighttime dance party, the Alice-in-Wonderland-themed Mad T Party.

Knowing that the “Rabbit Hole” was opening at 7:00, we got there just before so we could see the whole grand opening first night extravaganza. You can see by the photo below, that the soft opening wasn’t too big of a secret; lots of people!

As far as seating goes, Disney really did it right. I am totally in love with the Linvin plastic furniture that they purchased to fill the area. If you want one of these in your home, though, it’s going to set you back about $895 (I did the research, I hope Disney got a bulk discount!). There are plenty of chairs, but you might have to fight me for a purple one….

While waiting for the Rabbit Hole to open, which basically meant walking though a long tunnel of mist, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum greeted guests and put on a little banter to entertain us while we waited. I wonder if these guys shaved their heads for the part?
