The Disney Genie service (with optional add-ons available for purchase) made its debut within Disney World’s My Disney Experience app in October 2021 and the Disneyland app in December 2021. Disney Genie provides on-the-go planning tools and access to “Lightning Lanes” (which allow guests to bypass an attraction’s Standby line) to help guests maximize their time in the parks.
But BIG changes are coming to Genie+ at Disney World and Disneyland SOON! First, starting on July 24th, 2024, there will be official name changes for the Lightning Lane service that is currently part of Disney Genie.
Disney Genie+ is now Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and Individual Lightning Lanes are now Lightning Lane Single Pass. In addition to these changes, Disney has announced that as of July 24th, you can:
- Make Lightning Lane plans before you’re in Disney World, for added confidence.
- Choose your experiences and times prior to purchasing, so you know what you’re getting.
- Book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days, all in a single day.
On this page, we are discussing the NEW Lightning Lane Single Pass and the system’s upcoming changes.
Lightning Lane Single Pass
Lightning Lane Single Pass will effectively function as it does now, with the added bonus that you can make your purchase before your trip and plan in advance. Currently, guests can purchase Individual Attraction Lightning Lane Selections via Disney Genie — this is essentially a pay-per-ride service. Guests pay a fee to utilize the Lightning Lane for an individual, in-demand attraction.
The full list of attractions that are currently available for Individual Attraction Selection in Walt Disney World is as follows:
Magic Kingdom:
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- TRON Lightcycle / Run
EPCOT:
Animal Kingdom:
Hollywood Studios:
How much do Individual Attraction Selections cost in Disney World?
Here is a look at the price range we have seen for the rides that qualify for pay-per-ride in Disney World:
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – $10 – $12 per person
- AVATAR Flight of Passage — $11 – $16 per person
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – $15 – $25 per person
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind — $14 – 17 per person
- TRON Lightcycle / Run — $20 per person
Planning Ahead
Disney World hotel guests (and guests of other select hotels) will be able to plan Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests can plan up to 3 days in advance.
Advance purchase windows will allow people to “secure some of their must-do rides and experiences after they’ve had some time to decide what dining reservations they want to book and any other plans they may need to consider.”
You’ll be able to purchase a Multi-Pass, Single Pass, or both depending on what you need — and there will even be a new option to purchase both in one transaction.
Disney shared that the new Lightning Lane passes “will blend features from our current services and the previously offered FastPass+ service, giving guests the choice to plan ahead and removing the hassle of planning during their vacation.”
Remember, these changes roll out on July 24th, 2024, so make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest updates!
