With the opening date for the live-action Aladdin film quickly approaching, we have started to notice new treats, like the Aladdin-inspired Milkshake at Disney Springs, the Aladdin cupcake at Saratoga Springs, and the Wish Granted donut in Magic Kingdom.

And the Aladdin craze seems to be continuing as we have also spotted a TON of new merchandise at Walt Disney World and Disneyland this week.
We’ve got another cupcake from Intermission Food Court at Disney’s All Star Music Resort for you today. We just reviewed the current Character Icon cupcake (a tribute to Aladdin‘s Genie), and now we’re back for the Banana Split Cupcake.

This one has graced the bakery case at Intermission Food Court for a little while now, so since it appears to be something of a hit we grabbed it on our recent visit.
Those layers of buttercream you see on the top are not simply for show. The different colors of icing are actually different flavors, too: chocolate on top, vanilla in the middle, and strawberry on the bottom to resemble the classic dessert sundae! [Read more…]

You know we at the DFB are always up for one, and a really terrific place to find cupcakes as of late is Intermission Food Court in Disney World’s All Star Music Resort, thanks to their monthly-rotating Character Icon cupcakes.

It’s no secret that with Disney’s purchase of the Marvel Universe, the Walt Disney Company was banking on bringing superheroes to its many theme parks. Disneyland in California and Disneyland Paris are getting superhero-themed lands, and Hong Kong Disneyland is getting a Marvel-themed ride.
But even with copious development in Walt Disney World, the only major Marvel Comics-related growth is Epcot’s Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster. There’s no Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, or big green Hulk in sight.Â

Universal Studios, as you may have guessed if you’re a fan of their hero-themed rides and entertainment, retained the rights to the Marvel characters in an agreement signed in 1994 between Marvel and MCA (which would eventually become part of NBC Universal). But there were two caveats. One: Universal had to actually use the characters to retain control over them, and Two: the agreement split the country down the middle, and the rules applied separately to the areas east and west of the Mississippi River. If you’ve paid attention while out and about on Disney World property, you’ve no doubt noticed the distinctive signs in teal, yellow, red, and purple that are used on Disney property to direct traffic to parks, resorts, Disney Springs, and more. These signs are the harbingers of fun — the visitor’s first real sign they they are ON DISNEY PROPERTY.
