Disney Food Post Round-Up: November 22, 2015

As we inch closer and closer to Thanksgiving, we can’t stop dreaming about turkey with all the trimmings. We just love this time of year, especially at Walt Disney World!

There are so many fun and festive food and drinks available at the parks right now. And the gingerbread displays are up, so if you find yourself at Disney World for the holidays you’ll want to stop by and see them!

Review: Black Forest Milkshake at Min and Bill’s Dockside Diner

We are back at Hollywood Studios’ very own Dockside Diner for this season’s specialty milkshake. You may recall a few of the milkshake gems that have made the rounds at this unassuming spot, like the scrumptious Caramel Apple, the creative Cinnamon Sweet Churro, and the festive Red Velvet Peppermint Shake in honor of the holidays.

Nowadays we can’t walk into Hollywood Studios without stopping by Min and Bill’s to check out the latest concoction, because they’ve made the hunt pretty fun by changing the seasonal shake offering on a fairly frequent basis.

Things had changed up yet again on our most recent trip with the Black Forest Milkshake.

So, who’s ready to do some seasonal shake sipping with me?

Min and Bill’s Diner is located inside the “S.S. Down the Hatch” on Echo Lake in Hollywood Studios.

All seating is outdoors, but they do have a nice amount of tables and umbrellas set up right in front.

News! Tiffins Restaurant Brings Signature Dining to Animal Kingdom in 2016

We’ve been excited for the debut of the “Rivers of Light” nighttime spectacular coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom next year, but now there’s even MORE to look forward to! Tiffins — a Signature Restaurant — will open in Animal Kingdom in 2016 as well!

The dining experience at Tiffins will “celebrate the art of traveling” with a menu reflecting the locales that inspired the park itself. According to Disney, waterfront views will be a feature of this lunch and dinner option, which will offer both indoor and outdoor seating. [Read more…]

Review: Fried Green Tomato Sandwich at Fairfax Fare in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

EDITOR’S UPDATE: Now that Rosie’s All-American Cafe is reopen from its refurbishment, the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich is now being served there instead of Fairfax Fare. Rosie’s All-American is also located in the Sunset Ranch Market.

Fairfax Fare is part of Sunset Ranch Market: a string of Counter Service spots on Sunset Boulevard, which also includes Anaheim Produce, Hollywood Scoops, Catalina Eddie’s, and Rosie’s All-American Cafe.

Altogether, they serve just about the full array of typical Counter Service favorites, from pizza and burgers to ice cream and grab-and-go snacks.

Fairfax Fare in particular is known for “Smoked Specialties” such as spareribs and chicken dishes. In fact, it’s quite the carnivore’s destination, when you think about it. So it was with definite curiosity that we tried a more recent addition to the menu, which just so happens to be a vegetarian entree: the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich.

Atmosphere

Fairfax Fare, with its simple setting and ordering windows blends right in with the other Sunset Ranch Market eateries along Sunset Boulevard.

Of course, even though it blends in with the typical scene, it does stand out a bit more at the moment due to its next door neighbors — Catalina Eddie’s and Rosie’s All-American Cafe — currently undergoing refurbishments. (They’re anticipated to reopen on November 20th). [Read more…]

Dining in Disneyland Review: Star Wars Season of the Force Menu Hits Galactic Grill

Great news, Star Wars fans!

Tomorrowland Terrace in Disneyland has recently transformed to celebrate the Star Wars Season of the Force debut at Disneyland.

The resort is currently celebrating all things Star Wars, and along with that celebration comes the grand opening of the Galactic Grill. Last week I was invited to the restaurant’s first service to try out some of the new offerings.

Located in the heart of Tomorrowland, this counter service restaurant is serving up Star Wars themed menu items with clever names and some clever ingredients, too! The menu offers both “Dark Side” and “Light Side” foods. You have to choose which side you’re up to trying!

#OnTheList: ‘Ohana Bread Pudding at Tambu Lounge in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

This post is part of the DFB #OnTheList series, where we feature eats you’ve GOT to have while you’re at Disney! Let us know what’s on YOUR Disney Food Bucket List @DisneyFoodBlog #OnTheList!

Now, don’t get me wrong, Trader Sam’s… you’re pretty great. You are. But long before you and your wacky hijinks set up camp at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, there was (and still is!) a little place we know and love called the Tambu Lounge.

Outside of ‘Ohana itself (Tambu’s next door neighbor, located upstairs in the Great Ceremonial House), this is the only place you can get ‘Ohana Bread Pudding, which just so happens to be #OnTheList this week!

Now, for those of you who haven’t had ‘Ohana Bread Pudding, I put this little video together to give you an idea of how I, personally, feel about this dessert. (You’re gonna want to turn on your sound for this to get the full effect of my feelings.)

News: Season of the Force Bringing Star Wars-themed Food, New Dessert Party to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

“The Force… it’s calling to you.”

Beginning January 5, 2016, a new celebration of the Star Wars film franchise will kick off at Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Season of the Force!

Now, some new components will actually be added to the park starting December 1, 2015, such as scene enhancements to the Star Tours attraction, and a new version of the Jedi Training Academy: Trials of the Temple. The brand new Star Wars Launch Bay will also debut in Animation Courtyard, which will include character meet-and-greets, interactive video games, and opportunities to check out memorabilia and replicas of Star Wars artifacts. Review: New Menu Items at Epcot’s Liberty Inn

We are back at Liberty Inn, the Quick Service spot in The American Adventure in Epcot!

If you’re strolling around World Showcase and are on the hunt for some perfectly patriotic eats, Liberty Inn is your place. For a long time, offerings were pretty basic at this Counter Service location, which primarily features expected fare like burgers, chicken breast nuggets, and salads.

While that still holds true in most regards, it’s worth noting that Liberty Inn made some strides late last year towards providing a couple of options that reflect a greater array of American cuisine, including a few regional dishes like a Lousiana-Style Shrimp dish as well as Maryland Crab Cakes.

However, the menu has changed up once again, so we returned to scope out the situation and see what’s new, what’s gone, and how things are shaping up.
