I recently came across the wonderful Minnie Mousse Cupcake at Captain Cook’s in Disney’s Polynesian Resort — home of many unique cupcakes, including the Peanut Butter & Jelly Cupcake and the Chocolate Beer Cupcake!

Review: The Tambu Lounge in Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Today we’re headed to one a lounge that’s achieved cult favorite status among Disney fans in the know like you guys — The Tambu Lounge!

Located at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, this is one of my favorite spots in the entire resort to kick back, relax, and enjoy an adult beverage while awaiting my table at ‘Ohana. But what you might not know is that Tambu also serves up some tasty island-inspired pub grub as well.

It had been a while since I’d indulged in the menu here, so when the opportunity arose (in the form of a huge impending rainstorm) I knew just the place to hide away!

Atmosphere

Tambu Lounge is located in the open air atrium lobby of the Polynesian Resort. It actually serves as the waiting area for Disney guest-favorite restaurant ‘Ohana, and it’s also a stone’s throw from Kona Cafe, the resort’s other table service restaurant. This makes Tambu the perfect place to indulge in before dinner cocktails. But I had another idea in mind.

Since the space is open, the same decor that serves for the rest of the resort is found here as well. Dark walls, tikis, thatched roofs, and folk art serve to signal that you’ve traveled to Polynesia. And because this is Disney, you’ll often see guests of all ages here.

The comfortable, airy lounge features floor-to-ceiling picture windows that look out on the lush garden paths of the resort, and you can just catch a glimpse of the water through the trees. If you haven’t started the relaxation process by the time you hit Tambu, this spot is likely to get you moving in the right direction.

Eats

As I said before, normally Tambu is a Disney first day tradition for me. Either I’m awaiting my table at ‘Ohana, or I’m grabbing a Lapu Lapu before heading to the Polynesian’s beach to watch Wishes from my favorite spot. 🙂

But today, I was all about noshing, and I couldn’t wait to check out the menu. We started, of course, by taking a look at the Specialty Drink Offerings.

Although Disney has switched to a resort-wide beverage list for many of their bars and lounges, you can find some unique specialty cocktails at several of the resorts…and I’m so glad Tambu has kept several of theirs!

All the drinks are delicious, but nothing says “kicked back and relaxed” to me like that Lapu Lapu!

Introducing: The Mickey Marshmallow Cone at Trolley Treats

Today, we’re headed to Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure to sample some seriously adorable eats!

Located on the recently re-imagined Buena Vista Street, Trolley Treats is a candy store featuring a show kitchen on the premises — a first for California Adventure. And the shop captures that nostalgic sweets shop vibe perfectly.

No matter how old you are, you’ll want a treat from Trolley Treats, complete with its custom Trolley Treats packaging!

And now, in addition to the delicious handmade marshmallows in a variety of amazing flavors, I’ve found another must have: Mickey Marshmallow Cones!

I just love finding treats that uniquely represent Disney, you know? And when I spied what looked like Mickey Mouse ice cream cones in the display case, I knew I had to take a closer look. And taste, actually!

The sweets masquerading as hand-dipped frozen treats turned out to be made of marshmallow!

I saw these on an initial visit to Trolley Treats on my last Disneyland vacation, and HAD to go back to actually try one!

New! Root Beer Slush in a Souvenir BOOT and Chicken Sandwich at Pecos Bill in Disney World

There are all kinds of awesome changes going on at Disney World’s Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe right now. After years of being able to get a root beer float in a souvenir boot glass at Disneyland’s Golden Horseshoe, the boot has come to Disney World!

Found only at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe counter service restaurant in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland, guests can now purchase a Root Beer Slush in the souvenir glass.

The slush itself is thick and icy — definitely a “slush” consistency versus an “icee” consistency. The portion is large, and we found the root beer flavor to be mild, but present.

Review: KRNR Rock Station Food Truck at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

What’s that trailer that you just spied as you’re about to hop onto Rock’n Roller Coaster? A radio station, ready to give you your big break?

Nah, it’s KRNR the Rock Station! Well, actually, it’s a food trailer with a really cool theme. (Can you spot the Hidden Mickey in the sign?)

Those of you who have ridden Rock n Roller Coaster, Starring Aerosmith, have heard the KRNR radio announcer loud and clear, so it’s a great themeing element in the RnRC “plaza.” And this is a great stop if you’re looking for some food on the go.

There are hot dogs and chips if you’re hungry, but the real story here are the frosty treats. KRNR has a full line of soft serve options, including waffle cones in vanilla, chocolate, or swirl. You can also get Coke Floats or Barq’s root beer floats. And there’s that guest favorite, Minute Maid frozen lemonade as well! Fruit smoothies made with nonfat yogurt are a slightly healthier option.

Iced Coffee Machines were recently spotted by DFB reader Wendy in the Refillable Mug area at Captain Cook’s Snack Company in Disney’s Polynesian Resort.

We did some research and are pretty sure this is a new self-service option for guests looking for a caffeine fix!

With your refillable mug (currently priced at $15.49), guests can enjoy free refills on soda pop and coffee at the their resort from time of purchase until midnight of their check out day.

If the French Vanilla and Mocha iced coffee flavors are actually included, we know many guests will be thrilled!

Snack Series: Peanut Butter Heaven in Disneyland

EAT ALL THE PEANUT BUTTER! We just shared some of our FAVORITE Disney peanut butter treats a while back…and today we’ve got a close-up of one of the must-eat goodies on the list. (Apparently this is a de facto Peanut Butter week on DFB!)

You guys know me, and if Disney wants to sell me on a snack or treat (or hamburger) all they need to do is put some of that golden goodness in it. E.G., I dream of No Way Joses when I’m not in the parks.

But on trips to Disneyland, while I’m purchasing my Peanut Butter Sandwich, I’ve always been tempted by another PB treat beckoning to me from beside it.

On my recent trip, I decided to finally try out the Peanut Butter Heaven. Could it possibly be more “heavenly” than the sandwich?!? We shall see…

So first, this thing is enormous. For scale, look at the pic above of the case, and note that those colorful things above the peanut butter heaven and the peanut butter sandwiches are Disney caramel apples. Which we all know are as big as your head.

So with that said, the steep pricetag for a bonbon — a huge bonbon — isn’t all that shocking.

DIY Disney Recipe: Peanut Butter and Jelly Milkshake from 50’s Prime Time Cafe

Welcome back guest chef Carol E. with a Do It Yourself Recipe for the Peanut Butter and Jelly Milkshake at the 50s Prime Time Cafe inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

A few years ago, I had an opportunity to have a meeting over lunch at the 50s Prime Time Cafe inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It was my first introduction to the restaurant, and boy did I fall in love with it!

Mom was in the kitchen cooking up nostalgic dishes like pot roast, fried chicken, pork chops, meat loaf, and other Americana favorites! Since I had never been, our friend Leni from Disney said we had to order the PB&J milkshake. Seriously, we were intrigued…the classic PB&J now combined with a milkshake? We had to try it!

It was amazing, and is seriously the reason I fell in love with this restaurant! Well, the milkshake and also the fact that your waitress yells at you to finish your vegetables and to clean your plate or no dessert for you! 😉

Ever since then, I have made it my mission to at least grab a PB&J milkshake every time I visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

I was excited…ok, actually beyond ecstatic to find the recipe for the very unique PB&J Milkshake in my Delicious Disney cookbook! Now I can have this treat anytime I want to at home! It’s seriously super easy to make and will definitely make you the most popular mom in the neighborhood!
