Disneyland Restaurant Details for Orange County Restaurant Week

Great news for So Cal folks — Orange County Restaurant Week takes place February 26 – March 3, 2012. This delicious event only takes place once per year and includes some great Downtown Disney District restaurants!

With fun, unique menus designed by amazing chefs, this is a great opportunity to try out a restaurant for a set cost (usually a pretty great deal, too!). Take advantage of this annual opportunity to sample some new eats, impress your loved one with a romantic meal, or grab a group of friends for a memorable outing.

Be sure to try our favorite Red Velvet Roulade at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen! No tickets are necessary. Just make a reservation, then dine at your chosen restaurant.

Guest Review: Meadow Snack Bar at Fort Wilderness Resort

Welcome back guest author Melissa Sue Sorrells Galley with another guest review! This time she takes us to the Meadow Pool Bar at Fort Wilderness. And I love the awesome extra look around Fort Wilderness in this review — Yee-haw!

Deep in the winding wilderness, there’s an oasis of family fun waiting for you at the Meadow Recreation Area. Located near the center of Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, the Recreation Area is themed like a real old-fashioned swimming hole, with rustic wood touches; lots of open, grassy spaces; and stone-work details. It feels like an upscale summer camp … with very well-appointed bathrooms!

I can’t believe that we’re nearly three years into this blog and I’m still reviewing restaurants for the first time, but, alas, that IS the case! But that also means — NEW STUFF!! Today we’re headed over to Shutters Restaurant at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort in Walt Disney World!

Shutters is tucked into the end of Old Port Royale, the central amenities area at Caribbean Beach Resort (CBR). It’s the only table-service restaurant at the resort, and because CBR is an extra bus ride or car trip away from the parks, many folks don’t dine there unless they’re staying at the resort.

Sometimes, when a resort has a captive audience, they don’t try as hard to create good dishes and interesting meals. But Shutters was a pleasant surprise for us when we dined there. Though the overall appearance of the place could use some sprucing up, the food was good and the service was outstanding!

We’re overwhelmed with Disney news this week, so be expecting some news posts soon! Here’s the latest…

Great (potential) news coming from Epcot’s France pavilion. Walt Disney World has filed paperwork to indicate a France Bakery expansion at Boulangerie et Patisserie!
Disneyland is hosting a Midnight Snack at the February 29th “One More Disney Day” event. Yummy treats and hot beverages are included! Plus special menu items at select restaurants!
And here’s the list of Walt Disney World restaurants that will be open during One More Disney Day on February 29th!
The Hollywood Brown Derby at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is testing an interactive menu to enhance the dining experience for guests with special diets.
The James Beard Foundation has announced semi-finalists for the 2012 Restaurant and Chef Awards, including Disney World and Orlando-area Chefs. Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Wolfgang Puck at the May Awards Reception. Congrats to the chefs!
Tables in Wonderland has released info on its March culinary events, including an Illuminations Dessert Party!

Update: France Bakery Expansion in Epcot!

UPDATE: Menu info and slated opening date for new Epcot French Bakery And new ice cream shop! Plus, new name for Bistro de Paris will be “Monsieur Paul” — a fitting tribute to Chef Paul Bocuse!

While nothing is yet confirmed by Disney directly on this, we’ve got some GREAT potential news for those who love the France Boulangerie et Patisserie in Epcot (which, coincidentally, won our Bakery Throw Down!)

In a Notice of Commencement filed with Orange County on February 23, 2012, Walt Disney’s Operations Development department indicates that the bakery in Epcot’s France pavilion will be undergoing an expansion! Let’s hope for a more efficient queue as well as ample seating!

Try It! The “Epcot Classics” Snack Crawl

By now, you know that I just love food “crawls”, which are essentially little adventures to complete with your family and friends! Just eat each item to complete the crawl! And today I’d like to share the Epcot Classics Snack Crawl that we developed for our Epcot Snacks guidebook. But don’t worry — this doesn’t give too much away! Your first stop on the Epcot Classics Snack Crawl has quickly become an iconic spot in Epcot! Travel to Karamell-Küche, the luscious caramel candy store in Germany, and pick up some caramel popcorn. Deceptively simple, this stuff is addictive. Go ahead and get an extra bag — for midnight munchies, of course.

Disneyland Dining Options for “One More Disney Day” Event

According to the DisneyParks Blog, Disneyland is serving up fun, a midnight snack, and special eats for the One More Disney Day event!

Midnight Snack

Disneyland Park is gearing up for One More Disney Day with the announcement of the “Midnight Snack” at Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue.

Stop in 11:45 p.m. – 12:45 a.m. on February 29 (to March 1st) for yummy treats, hot beverages, Disney character meet ‘n greets, live music by Denny Moynahan, and other surprises.

No need to RSVP. Guests will be admitted from 11:45 p.m. until capacity is reached. This event is extremely limited to approximately 200 guests. You’ll need park admission, and lining up for the event can be no earlier than 10 p.m.

News! Hollywood Brown Derby Tests Interactive Special Diets Menu

Matt Hochberg over at StudiosCentral.com, highlighted a new interactive special diets menu at the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This menu is currently being tested until February 28, 2012.

The interactive menu will enhance (not replace) the experience that a guest with a Special Diet has with the restaurant’s culinary team. A chef will still visit your table to discuss dietary concerns if you’d like.
