You remember this one from last year! Enjoy a Chocolate Extravaganza on Friday and Saturday nights showcasing nearly 30 intense chocolate treats (priced per piece) when Peacock Alley becomes a chocolate-lover’s dream!

Choose from chocolate treats created by pastry chef Kurtis Baguley, including exquisite handmade chocolate truffles, exotic chocolate cakes, creamy chocolate mousse, and indulgent bon-bons. I got to try a few of the truffles and they were amazing! Stay tuned for a review in a week or so! 🙂

Disney’s Soda Fountain Review: The Beauty and The Beast Sundae

With Beauty and the Beast 3D hitting theaters this past Friday, Disney’s Soda Fountain is celebrating with a special movie themed sundae. My family and I hit the road to Hollywood to check it out.

Almond Praline Ice Cream with a hint of strawberry sauce, swirls of whipped cream, and topped with a “Luscious” candy rose was the description.

However, as soon as it arrived at the table, I noticed that the sundae also had caramel in it! SCORE!

Although I’m still a bit sad about the fact that the Soda Fountain switched from Dewar’s ice cream to Dreyer’s, the Almond Praline that was used in this sundae was quite tasty!

Dining in Disneyland: Jolly Holiday’s Lemon Meringue Bar

With the newly opened Jolly Holiday Bakery & Cafe in full effect there are tons of yummy options that are on my “must try” list. The first one was this scrumptious Lemon Meringue Bar, which I specifically went back for on my second trip to Jolly Holiday.

Let me start by saying that I consider myself a lemon bar connoisseur. I love them… like really, really love them. So, I was hoping that this tart treat would meet my expectations, because artificial-tasting lemon in a lemon bar is awful.

The topping is also important to me; usually I like a “crumby” type topping on them and maybe a sprinkle of powdered sugar.

I am happy to report, however, that the Lemon Meringue Bar is a great twist on the standard lemon bar. The meringue topping was smooth and not too sticky, it was the perfect sized dollop to go along with the bar.

What Flavor Dole Whip Would You Invent?

We’re big fans of the Dole Whip, one of the classic snacks that many people can’t live without when they head to a Disney theme park!

This creamy, chilly treat usually comes in a pineapple flavor, and guests have the option of combining the sweet/tart treat with pineapple juice to make a float!

What if We Invented a New Flavor!

While I’m sure that many of us love the classic pineapple flavor, we got to thinking…what flavor would you invent if you had the chance? Currently the company who makes the dole whip mix offers vanilla, chocolate, orange, strawberry, raspberry, mango, and pineapple.

Do you think Disney should serve more of these flavors? Or are there other flavors you’d add to the list in your “fantasy land?”

My pick would be a red-velvet-and-cream-cheese-frosting flavored Dole Whip…or a lemon-curd-and-blueberry flavored Dole Whip! But I also love some of the ideas from the Disney Food Blog facebook fans below — especially the tequila-based ones! 😉

Rumor! Starbucks and Earl of Sandwich May Come to Disneyland’s Downtown Disney

According to Al Lutz at MiceAge, Disneyland’s Downtown Disney in Anaheim may see two new popular and affordable eateries soon — Starbucks and Earl of Sandwich!

After a long negotiation in which Starbucks insisted on retaining control of their management and training, coffee lovers may soon welcome this addition to Downtown Disney Anaheim.

Intended location is top secret, but speculation has the popular coffee shop moving into the east wing of the La Brea Bakery building. Another location, the spot vacated by Compass Books at the other end of the Downtown Disney strip, is also a possible site for the java stop.

Earl of Sandwich

has also been mentioned for both of these locations. This would be the first West Coast eatery for the restaurant famous for their delicious sandwiches.

The first location for Earl of Sandwich was Disney World, and a location opened in Disneyland Paris last year, so this addition would make sense.

By the way, speaking of Earl of Sandwich, don’t forget to sign up for their new Earl of Sandwich e-club and get a free sandwich on your birthday!

Guest Review: Boatwright’s Dining Hall at Port Orleans Riverside

Melissa Sue is back with more great Disney World restaurant coverage! This time she’s taking us along to Boatwright’s for a meal at the Port Orleans Riverside resort.

My husband and I headed out to Boatwright’s in early December to fortify ourselves before a long, long night at Magic Kingdom. With closing set for 2 a.m., and our ADR set for 7 p.m., we were planning to fuel up and head out, but as you’ll see, the charm of Boatwright’s and Port Orleans sucked us right in!

Atmosphere

You’ll find the entrance to Boatwright’s behind the main Sassagoula Steamboat Company building — just walk across the old-style porch, and it’ll be there on your left.

You can also access the restaurant from within the main Riverside building — at the entrance, just head straight back to the left, passing River Roost Lounge and walking straight on through.

We arrived a little early for our ADR, so we walked over to Old Man Island (where the resort’s main pool is located) and looped over to Magnolia Terrace, where guest room buildings are built to look like “mansions.” Riverside is well-lit and more compact than I expected, but still peaceful and romantic. It was a lovely walk, and I can’t wait to go back in the daytime so I can explore the area more fully.

Eventually, we headed back toward Boatwright’s to check in for dinner, and though I’d seen pictures, I was unprepared for how huge and museum-like Boatwright’s really is. As you walk in, you’re looking right up at the replica skeletal wooden hull of a flat-bottomed “New Orleans Lugger” fishing boat, suspended above the check-in area and dining room.

One of our favorite counter-service joints, Contempo Cafe, has perfected another yummo cupcake that I can’t wait to tell you about!

Previously, we’ve shared our reviews of the Apple Spice, Chocoalte Peppermint, Dulce de Leche, and Black Forest cupcakes here at Contempo, and now we’ve got a version of my very favorite cake in the world — the Red Velvet cupcake!

Riding side-saddle between Adventureland and Frontierland, Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe — often shortened to “Pecos Bill’s” is the place to sit for a spell (and chow down) with your posse!

From burgers to taco salads, there’s a little something for everyone here, which makes it a guest-favorite for counter-service in the Magic Kingdom!

Atmosphere

Because guests can see the restaurant from Adventureland and Frontierland, Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe looks like an old West saloon from the outside in Frontierland but has a more Caribbean appearance on the Adventureland side.

Inside, you’ll find dark woods and decor you’d expect in booming mining towns of the West. If you keep moving toward the Adventureland side of the restaurant, though, you’ll run into slightly more Caribbean decor — cobblestones, blooming flowers, and warmer stone walls. This runs opens into Tortuga Tavern next door!

But back to the old West, if you take a peek at the walls, you’ll find the story behind Pecos Bill’s (every Disney destination has a story!).
