Our Dining in Disneyland columnist, Heather Sievers, celebrated Lunar New Year in Disneyland with this special egg roll!

A few weekends ago, I had the chance to visit Disneyland’s special “Family Fun Weekends” event for Lunar New Year.  The celebration was held in the Festival Arena next to Big Thunder Ranch.  The decor was amazing and there were special character appearances that included Mickey, Minnie, Chip & Dale, Mulan & Mushu, all dressed in traditional Chinese costumes.

That’s right! We’ll soon be releasing an e-Book all about dining in Disney World and planning for your best possible vacation! We’re just a short time away from the e-Book’s release, but we want to make sure we’ve included everything you need. That’s where you can help!

What Do YOU Want To Know?

There’s a lot to be said about dining in Disney World — and we’re covering funnel cakes to fine dining! So we need your input to be sure we’re answering all of your questions about eating in the Happiest Place on Earth.

New to Disney World? If you’re new to Walt Disney World, tell us in the comments section below what questions you’d like to see answered in a dining guidebook about WDW. Is there anything stumping you during your planning? Are there topics you’d like to see covered in more depth?

Why We Wrote The DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining e-Book

This all started with a few of my observations about dining in Walt Disney World over the past 20 years:

  1. Planning your WDW dining can be a daunting task. Disney World encompasses 42 square miles and hundreds of restaurants and dining locations. Hundreds! Add in that many of the popular restaurants are booked solid six months in advance, and figuring out where your family will eat on your vacation can be downright scary!
  2. Walt Disney World is expensive. A huge chunk of your vacation budget will go to food, and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get the biggest bang for your buck.
  3. There’s no guidebook I’ve found that covers Disney World dining the way I’d like it to be covered. This e-Book has twice as much dining information and advice than [Read more…]

2011 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival Foodie Events

It’s not quite time for that other Festival that foodies mark on their calendars ;). While we wait (and wait) for October, there are some other fun exhibits to explore in Walt Disney World!

For the 18th year, Epcot will be hosting the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival from March 2-May 15, 2011, and you can find the festival guide here. Foodies will find some delightful exhibits, which we’ve detailed below.

What’s Your “Every-Trip” Food?

Have you realized that you have an “every-trip” food? Something you eat every time you’re in your favorite Disney park or resort?

I figured my “every-trip” food would be something very “Disney-esque,” like an ice cream cookie sandwich or a Mickey rice krispie treat. But, it’s not. I realized that the thing I eat on every single trip, without fail, is candy, made by Nestle, and imported to Florida from the UK. Sad, but true.

It’s no secret that I’m addicted to Rowntree’s Fruit Gums and Fruit Pastilles. I have been since I first found them in a Tesco in London a million years ago; I used to keep rolls of them in my tiny dorm-room refrigerator and eat ’em while I was studying. 🙂

Thanks again to our roving reporter, Sarah Holodick, we get to find out all about breakfast at one of Disney World’s newest dining locations! Chorizo and cheese… I’m getting hungry!

Over the holiday weekend, I took the opportunity to try out Pollo Campero‘s breakfast menu. When I arrived Saturday at 8:30 am, the building was a ghost town. I only saw one other family dining in the entire restaurant.

Immediately, I was greeted with a very rehearsed spiel by a manager mentioning the various options under the roof, including Babycakes NYC (which was still closed at this early hour).

It’s been a great week for foodies!  The addition of new counter-service restaurants to the Disney Dining Plan was welcome news. And we’re already green with envy about the culinary events at Raglan Road for St. Paddy’s Day Week!

News: Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam’s to Open in Disneyland Hotel

and Trader Sam’s Bar will open in Spring 2011 as part of the Disneyland Hotel renovation. As the Disneyland Hotel keeps its nostalgic atmosphere, the new restaurant is a tribute to the Tahitian Terrace that resided in Adventureland from 1962-1993.

Interestingly, Disney World’s Polynesian Resort once had a flourishing restaurant called Tangaroa Terrace; and you’ll remember Trader Sam as the name of the Jungle Cruise’s “head salesman.”
