When my uncle first told me he would be taking my cousin and me to the Chef’s Table at Victoria and Albert’s, I was a little apprehensive. My taste buds are certainly not adventurous, and I rarely ever experience “fine dining.” I’m a steak and potatoes kind of girl through and through, and I certainly didn’t want my uncle to pay so much for a meal I would eat very little of. Fortunately, I had nothing to worry about, as The Chef’s Table turned out to be the best dining experience I’ve ever had.

The one piece of advice I can give on booking the Chef’s Table is to call right when the lines open 180 days out. Work your other ADRs around this one; don’t lock yourself into one date if possible.

For those of you who plan your Walt Disney World vacation around your gastronomical dreams, you may want to take note of the restaurants listed in this year’s 13th Annual Foodie Awards by the Orlando Sentinel.

Disney Dream Dining: Flo’s V8 Cafe

How excited was I to find a Flo’s V8 Cafe on the Disney Dream?! VERY! I thought — is this gonna be anything like the Flo’s V8 Cafe slated to open in Disney California Adventure’s Cars Land in 2012?

After getting a look at the counter-service location on the ship, my guess is no — it won’t approximate the full-sized location in Cars Land, but it’s a fun preview on what the themeing might be like! Snack Series: Disneyland’s Cherry Granola Muffin

Every time I visit Disneyland, I take a peek inside the Blue Ribbon Bakery on Main Street to see if there is anything new and exciting. When I saw this cute little number with a cherry on top, I decided that my arm would not need to be twisted to try it. I mean Cherry Granola. That sounds healthy right? Granola? Isn’t that good for you!?!

In honor of Valentine’s Day, Disneyland has created this tasty little treat that won’t be around long. This seasonal muffin looks a little like a cupcake, but it’s not at all as sweet.

I am FINALLY getting to review this wonderful counter service location — can you believe it’s taken this long? Well, let’s make up for lost time!

Wolfgang Puck Express is the counter-service version of the famous Chef Puck’s quintessential California cuisine. There are two locations in Disney World’s Downtown Disney — one in the Marketplace and one in the West End area (right next to the Wolfgang Puck Cafe and Dining Room).

Focusing on table-service quality food with the taglines “Simple is Delicious” and “Live, Love, Eat”, WPE strives to offer organic and locally grown ingredients whenever possible. I’m pretty sure it’s one of the best counter-service eateries on Disney property. Let’s take a look…

Menu Spotlight: California Grill’s Roasted Suckling Pig Flatbread

Sarah Holodick reports on a new menu item at the California Grill in Disney’s Contemporary Resort!

Matt and I went over to the California Grill for one of their famous Brick Oven Fired Flatbreads, and we spotted a Slow-roasted Suckling Pig variety had been on the menu for a little while. It’s made with Heirloom Apple Butter, Cheddar, Caramelized Onions, and “Cracklins.”

Review: Peacock Alley and Oscar’s at Waldorf Astoria Orlando

I have got some gorgeous pics to share with you today (if I do say so myself)! Let’s head over to the beautiful new Waldorf Astoria Orlando resort (home of the Bull and Bear Steakhouse and my close encounter with very hot hot sauce, which I still have to tell you about!) smack dab in the middle of Walt Disney World property… Today, we’re not having steak. Nope — instead, we’re having small plates. LOTS of small plates! And dessert! Four of ’em! If you ask me, this is one of the best ways to eat: many different kinds of food all at once. 😉

When we were at the Waldorf, our friends treated us to a selection from the menus of two dining locations: Oscar’s and Peacock Alley (you can see details and menus here). Disney Food for Families: 10 Tips for Dining with Teens at Walt Disney World

In the early days of my family’s Disney travel, we routinely went to at least one character meal every day, sometimes two. On my twins’ sixth birthday, we even ate at three character meals in one day. My waistline is still trying to recover!

But now that my girls are older, the character meals hold somewhat less appeal for them. My daughter Charlie, now 14, even went through a phase where she was (Yikes!) “too cool” for characters. My challenge has become, “How do you keep the magic of Disney Dining alive without relying on the classic character meal?” In other words: How do you make Disney Dining fun for teens?

Idea #1: Make the vacation about the food.
I have been to Walt Disney World twice with just Charlie during the Epcot Food & Wine Festival. We spent a couple of days working our way around the World Showcase booths, trying to sample at least one or two things from each represented country. This sparked some interesting discussions about food taste, texture, and preparation styles. We had bonding moments over our mutual favorite: the beef with chimichurri sauce from Argentina stand.
