Guest Review: Flying Fish Cafe Chef’s Counter

I recently “met” (not yet in person yet, but I hope soon!) a few Disney foodies who have sought out some great culinary experiences. I’ve begged a couple of them to put together guest posts, and the first is this fantastic review from Chelsi Murphy of the new Flying Fish Chef’s Counter at Disney World’s Boardwalk! Take it away, Chelsi!

The Flying Fish Café is connected to The Disney Boardwalk Resort. It has been consistently one of our favorite restaurants through the years. When it was announced in April that Chef Tim Keating would be offering a Chef’s Tasting Wine Dinner at the Chef’s counter, we knew that we would have to book it for our next trip out in July.

Atmosphere:
The Flying Fish Cafe is a beautiful and whimsically decorated restaurant overlooking the busy hustle and bustle of the Boardwalk. The Chef’s Counter is to your left as you walk in and gives you an up close and personal view of Chef Keating and his crew preparing the night’s menu. [Read more…]

Mixology and Beer Seminar Details: Swan and Dolphin Food and Wine Classic

The Swan and Dolphin Food and Wine Classic is coming up at the end of this week, and we’re excited to bring you the final post in our series of sneak peeks into the event!

We’ve already discussed some tasting booth menus and details as well as more sneak peeks from the tasting booths, and two weeks ago we highlighted the details behind this weekend’s Champagne and Sake Seminars! Today, we’re taking a look at the Classic’s Mixology and Beer Seminars!

Mexico
Mexico is a strong booth this year. A long menu, some great variety, and large portions make this spot a meal in itself. They’ve also got a fun frozen non-alcoholic drink that we loved. You can see more pictures, the full menu, and prices on our Mexico Booth Page!

WDW Foodie Fest Report!

Epcot Food & Wine Festival Food Pictures: Canada, Greece, and Australia Booths

We’re still eating our way around the 2010 Epcot Food and Wine Festival! Here are a few of the items we got a chance to scarf down yesterday. Canada
Once again, Canada is one of the strongest booths at the festival! With a strategy of taking the best items from the Le Cellier menu and miniaturizing them for the booth, guests get to sample a mini-meal from the restaurant.

One of our favorites was the chicken chipotle sausage with corn polenta; the addition of the peppers makes this a spicy and delicious dish — possibly better than what you get in the restaurant! Also, the sweet Maple glaze on the salmon is wonderful. Of course, one of my favorite items from the booth was the ice wine; my husband didn’t even get to try a drop! And the Nanaimo bar — a new item on the menu this year (and not found in the restaurant) is a decent nod to Canadian favorites. While the Nanaimo bars my mom makes are better, this is a nice, sweet way to end your tour of Canada. You can see more pictures, the full menu, and prices on our Canada Booth Page!

We sampled the Cosmo Slush and Milk Chocolate Creme Brulee yesterday — both incredible, but I was really taken with the Cosmo Slush!! Of course, the escargot and Short ribs are back again this year, too! You can see more pictures, the full menu, and prices on our France Booth Page!

Vegan Dining in Disney World

Update: Disney is no longer offering Divvies. They are currently offering bakery items from the Enjoy Life and OMG Manufacturers along with Rocky Mountain Popcorn, and Surf Sweets Jelly Beans throughout the Parks and Resorts.

Those who are vegan or who are visiting Disney World with a vegan family member or guest often have a bit of stress about how they’re going to find vegan-friendly foods in a theme park! Luckily, Disney is known far and wide for their ability in working with special diets. Click here for a few resources we’ve put together for those dining with special diets in Disney.

Recently, I interviewed Anna G., who writes the wonderful Cookie Madness blog, who headed to Disney World earlier this year with a vegan guest…who happened to be 9 years old!

First Look! Epcot’s New Karamell-Küche

Epcot’s Karamell-Küche (German for Caramel Kitchen) opened its doors today for the very first time! You’ll recall, this is the shop that is replacing the old Glas und Porzellan shop at the entrance to the Germany pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase.

Filled with delicious smells of caramel corn and caramel apples, the golden-hued shop beckons those who enter to stare at the incredible treats behind glass counters. Luckily, they’re giving out samples of the [Read more…]
