Snack Series: Contempo Cafe’s Black Forest Cupcake

A couple of months ago I got an email from a reader — Callie Shrekengost — urging me to try the Black Forest Cupcake at Contemporary Resort’s Contempo Cafe in Disney World. I’d seen the cupcake before, but hadn’t ever had the stomach space at the time to try it; so I was grateful to get her reminder and put it on my To-Do list for the October trip!

Around here, we believe there’s no better restaurant recommendation than the one we get from another Disney fan. So, in our quest to provide the very best information about Disney restaurants, we’ve created the DFB Choice Awards!

These awards will be bestowed upon Disney-area food and restaurants based on nominations and votes from Disney Food Blog readers. Here’s the timeline:

Nominations: November 22-November 29
Award Voting: December 1-December 22
DFB Awards Announced: December 31

To participate, nominate one contender for each category in the form below (contenders can be from ANY Disney-related park or resort around the world); the top nominations from each category will be entered into our voting round, which begins on December 1st, 2010! See you then!

Disneyland Candy Cane tickets will be up for grabs on November 26th at the Candy Palace!

Disneyland Distributing Tickets for Candy Canes on November 26, 2010

It’s Disneyland Candy Cane time again!

Once again this year, tickets will be distributed for the very popular homemade treats from Disneyland’s Candy Palace. Our Disneyland guru, Heather Sievers, just reported from Disneyland that the tickets will be distributed on November 26th at the Candy Palace right at park opening! Of course — this is always subject to change…

Last year, the canes retailed for $9.95. To find out when the canes will be made, call the Candy Kitchen menu line: 714-781-0112.

Thanksgiving and Christmas Menus in Walt Disney World Restaurants

I had the chance to chat with Chef Robert Getchell from Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Sanaa Restaurant recently about the holiday menus that are available at Walt Disney World restaurants this year!

Here are the details on holiday dining in Disney restaurants from Chef Getchell:

Most restaurants will offer their whole regular menu, or a slightly limited version of their regular menu, along with a “special for the day.” Specials will be themed to each restaurant, but at the same time will be very familiar to the guests as a traditional family meal.

For example, Sanaa will be offering an African-spiced turkey breast, dark meat gravy, cranberry and dry cherry chutney, and butternut squash as our special for holiday dining.

Other examples of holiday menu items include an Oak rotisserie turkey dish at California Grill; and a smoked turkey breast with sage butter, smokey butternut squash, and [Read more…]

Review: Todd English’s bluezoo

Incredible seafood and stylized “under-the-sea” decor is the impression most people have of Todd English’s bluezoo at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort before they go…but there’s a lot more to it than that!

Celebrity Chef Todd English is the nameplate on many restaurants, but is best known for the original “Olives,” opened in Boston in 1989. Since then, he’s gone on to master the gamut of cuisine, from steakhouses to seafood to Italian and more, and even holds court over a restaurant on the Queen Mary II cruise ship.

But as he’s based in Boston, the Swan and Dolphin is lucky to have another incredible Chef overseeing bluezoo — Chef Chris Windus. A rising star in his own right, Chef Windus is still dedicated to the art of food. Through his personal blog and interaction in foodie circles, it’s clear to see that he’s a perfectionist and strives for the ideal plate from ingredient choice to preparation to service. Since I began this blog, it’s been a joy watching how he runs the bluezoo kitchen, and I was eager to head to the restaurant to experience it myself.
