There’s nothing like cooling down with shave ice on a hot day, right?
While you can get shave ice in Animal Kingdom and at Polynesian Resort, it’s just kinda infinitely better to have the sweet treat in Oahu at Aulani Resort. But, you can bring the Hawai’ian Islands (and shave ice!!) home with you with this new merch!
If you’re in the need for a little aloha, Disney’s Aulani Resort is the place to go. You really can’t go wrong with a view like this:
And DFB reader Rachel Wagner shared a different kind of view with us from Aulani: a Pineapple-Filled Churro with Dole Whip Twist! Hello!! [Read more…]
‘Tis the season for everything pumpkin, and we got word about a pumpkin soft serve whip. YUP — THAT’S PUMPKIN DOLE WHIP Y’ALL! Thanks to @PBandJellyJenn on Instagram for the tag and heads up!
But you won’t find this on the East Coast…or even the West Coast…of the continental USA. Nope; gotta get on that flight to Hawai’i my friends, and head to Aulani — Disney’s Hawai’ian Disney Vacation Club location! [Read more…]

Reader Wendy shared this photo and review of the Lilikoi Cheesecake at Ulu Cafe in Disney’s Aulani Resort via the DFB Mailbag. She says, “The sweet, creamy mango cheesecake and the tangy lilikoi (passion fruit) glaze blended well together! This dessert far surpasses all other ‘premade desserts in a cup’!”
Kanani Ashley shared this great pic of a Self Serve Dole Whip Station in a brand new drugstore that just opened in Hawaii! AAAAAH!!! Who wants one of these at home??

We’re headed to Hawaii with a review of goodies from Mama’s Snack Stop at Disney’s Aulani Resort.
Mama’s Snack Stop is just that — a little snack shack in Waikolohe Valley out by the pools at Aulani and right next door to Pāpālua Shave Ice. This stand is convenient for a quick bite while at the pools, beach, or any other activity you are doing at the hotel.
On this trip we started out with the Local Red Frank on a Soft Roll. Here, the roll is hollowed out from the end and the Frank is inserted (a la Puka Dog if you’ve ever had one). It had a very subtle hickory flavoring. The meat itself had a smooth texture, and the skin had no snap to it, unfortunately.
The Portuguese Sausage on the other hand had a very nice snap on the skin, and it had the expected mild spiciness with a strong garlic flavor. It was a hearty dog that paired very well with the garlic aioli that came on the side. We ordered it [Read more…]

Guests of Aulani, Disney Vacation Club’s Hawaii resort, will now enjoy a little taste of the parks as they bask paradise! In a move that only seems logical, Aulani is now offering Dole Whip!
The cult favorite is available at The Lava Shack in Aulani. The poolside shop is your spot to stock up on beach and pool gear, but they also offer a selection of snacks, beverages, and frozen treats. This is also a great stop for grabbing a [Read more…]

I’m back from my first visit to Hawaii with, of course, a visit to Aulani, Disney’s outpost in the Aloha state. Since it was my first visit, I was particularly excited to explore Hawaii’s unique culture.
During our initial morning on site, we chose to have breakfast at Ama Ama, the more upscale of the resort’s table service restaurants.
The rest of the family chose to eat traditional American style food: pancakes, scrambled eggs, and French toast (can I call French toast American? :-)). But I chatted with the server, a native Hawaiian, and asked what the most traditional local dish was. She responded, “Loco Moco,” and told me that the Ama Ama version was excellent. So Loco Moco it was!
For those of you not in the know, a Loco Moco consists of rice, topped by a hamburger patty, topped by a fried egg, topped by a brown, usually onion or mushroom based, gravy.
Here’s the Ama Ama Loco Moco. (Try saying that five times fast.)
I loved the way the semi-cooked yolk and gravy oozed into [Read more…]

I’m back from a recent trip to Aulani, Disney’s vacation outpost in Hawaii. I am already itching to return – that place was magnifico!
Part of what made it even more over-the-top great was that we had access to a private poolside cabana. Score!
We had comfy reserved chairs, a fan, a stereo, a TV (’cause hubby wanted to check in on the football games between swims), water bottles, a constant supply of fresh towels, a mini fridge, and of course, an ever-attentive attendant to keep us supplied with drinks and snacks. Naturally, it’s that drinks and snacks part I want to talk about.
We arrived at the cabana at about 9:30, after a big character buffet breakfast, so we weren’t immediately ready to eat. And then magically, as if Mickey himself knew the peckishness was imminent, a complimentary fruit plate arrived.
Check out all the tropically goodness: orange, mango, grapes, papaya, dragon fruit, starfruit, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, passion fruit, pineapple, edible orchids, and [Read more…]
