Disney has released a number of movies since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in a variety of ways.

Some films have gone straight to Disney+, others have had a combined release between Disney+ and theaters, and some are set to be released solely in theaters in the future. Recently, Disney’s CEO commented about how the company makes their decisions regarding the release of films and talked about the arrangements it has made with its stars.
A legal battle is currently going on between Disney and Scarlett Johansson over the dual release of Black Widow on Disney+ and in theaters.
Black Widow
Johansson has filed a lawsuit, stating that Disney’s decision to release the film on Disney+ (in addition to theaters) constituted a breach of her contract. The actress has said that her bonuses were tied to the box office performances, meaning that the Disney+ debut may have greatly reduced her earnings. Disney has issued a response, defending its position, as the parties go back and forth in the lawsuit. And now we’ve got another update regarding the situation.
We found out recently that Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney over Marvel’s Black Widow being released on Disney+ at the same time as it was released in theaters.

The actress is claiming breach of contract in her lawsuit, saying that Disney’s Marvel Entertainment guaranteed her an exclusively theatrical release of the film. The lawsuit claims that due to her salary being based in large part on the box-office performance of the film, Johansson will lose out on $50 million. After the news broke yesterday, Disney reportedly released a statement as a response to the lawsuit. Now, Johansson’s agency is coming to her defense.
Marvel’s Black Widow was released earlier this month after being repeatedly delayed due to the global pandemic.

It was released in theaters and on Disney+ with premier access. But now, star of the film, Scarlett Johansson, is suing Disney over the way the movie was released in both theaters and on the streaming service simultaneously, claiming it was a breach of contract.
