The recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the United States has cause many things to change around the country.

Travel restrictions were put into place, select people are advised not to travel, and places like Universal Orlando Resort have reinstated their mask policies. Florida has repeatedly broken its own record for the number of positive cases in the state, and Orange County, where Disney World is located, has seen their testing positivity rate increase significantly. Now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have new recommendations when it comes to cruises.

Over the past several months, the situation with COVID-19 has changed and developed, and we’ve seen a number of updates when it comes to cruises.

Back in September, Disney Cruise Line changed select COVID-19 vaccination and testing policies. They then added a new COVID-19 testing option and updated the vaccine requirement for kids. Now we’ve gotten an update in terms of cruise ships and COVID-19 that involves Disney Cruise Line and many other cruise ship operators.

Omicron continues to make an impact on the state of COVID-19 in Florida.

We’ve been monitoring the health and safety changes in Disney World

Orange County, Florida, where part of Disney World is located, recently identified Omicron in the wastewater, and the White House has also listed the county as a “rapid riser” and a COVID-19 hotspot. While Disney World continues to enact health and safety measures, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has just changed their risk category for Orange County.

Recently, the mayor of Orange County, Florida has noted that they are in “crisis mode” due to the rising COVID-19 cases in the county, and we shared that the United States will not be lifting its travel restrictions due to COVID-19 concerns. Disney Cruise Line is running some staycation cruises out of the United Kingdom this summer, but Disney’s ships have not yet been able to sail from the United States. Previously, Disney was set to run a test cruise out of Florida, but that was ultimately canceled. Now, we’ve got an update on what’s going on with Disney Cruise Line at the moment!

Test Cruises Out of Florida and Texas Given Approval By the CDC

At the start of May, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new instructions for the return to cruising.

Since then we’ve seen some indications that cruises to Alaska may begin again this summer and have seen Disney Cruise Line cancel sailings through July. And now it looks like Carnival Cruise Line is one step closer to an eventual return to sailing.
