It is STILL January. Is it just us or does it feel like January has lasted 584 days?
It looks gloomy and cold in Magic Kingdom!
It feels like ages ago that we rang in the new year. Unfortunately, we’re still in the winter months. Now, that doesn’t always mean cold winter weather in Disney World. Some days we’ve seen it nearing 80 degrees in Disney World this month. But the next couple of days are here to remind us that, yes, we are still in January.
Believe it or not, it does occasionally get COLD in Disney World.
Dear Elsa, the cold is starting to bother us
Now, we haven’t seen snow like what is occasionally seen in Disneyland Paris, but even when it gets down to the 50s (and sometimes even 30s and 40s), you’ll find yourself shivering. It’s a damp cold, too, which means you might find yourself at the parks wanting to buy a sweatshirt or jacket. But here’s the thing — almost every other guest has the exact same idea, and well, that causes a bit of a problem.
You might think you know EVERYTHING there is to know about Disney World, but the Most Magical Place on Earth can truly SURPRISE you.

Sometimes special snacks pop up (for a limited time only) at unique locations. Or a ride may unexpectedly close only to suddenly reopen a few minutes later. Scheduled refurbishment closures, changes in entertainment times, adjustments to walking paths — all kinds of things can catch you off guard in the parks and resorts. But sometimes the surprises you’ll encounter will be pleasant ones — and that’s just what we spotted recently.
Believe it or not, it DOES get cold in Disney World. Maybe it’s not quite as cold as what a Midwesterner is used to dealing with, but it’s not always tank top and shorts weather either.

Combine that chillier weather with the natural humidity of Florida and that damp cold can feel even colder, especially if you’re not prepared for it. Also, mornings will be especially chilly, at least until the sun comes out later in the day. So you need to think about wearing layers. Your planning is done, you’ve made your park pass reservations, you’ve checked park hours, your advance dining reservations are made, and all that’s left is to start packing for your trip. During the holiday season especially, we often see guests in the Disney World parks bundled up more than usual, wearing outfits complete with hats, scarves, gloves, and lots of layers. Typically, winter is fairly mild for the Central Florida area, but cold snaps can happen, so theme park guests might look to modify their plans. And in the case of one theme park, you’re likely to see some pretty unpredictable trends.
When you pack for Disney, you probably remember to bring pajamas, your toothbrush, your Minnie ears, your MagicBand+, and other essentials. But did you pack…your gloves?

Florida might be the Sunshine State, but sometimes it can get hit with really cold weather! A freeze warning and freeze watch were even put in place for some areas of Florida over the Christmas weekend. And while things are warming up, some cooler weather will continue for just a bit in Orlando (at least in terms of the lows). If you aren’t prepared for the cooler weather, you might arrive in Florida and be met with a rather unfortunate situation in the parks.
Okay guys, it’s official: Orlando is going to see its first freeze since 2018!
Better to be safe than sorry!
With the arctic blast that’s coming to the East Coast at the end of this week, meteorologists predict Disney World could see temperatures drop to 32 degrees. Fittingly, these icy temps are going to hit right on Christmas Eve!
There’s one thing you can count on when it comes to Disney World weather — expect the unexpected.
