Let’s take a quick look at the Year So Far in Contempo Cafe Cupcakes, shall we?
Over the past several months, this Contemporary Resort Counter Service spot has brought us a rotating cast of cupcakes including — among many others — the Churro Cupcake, the Cherry Cupcake, the Banana Flip Cupcake, the Watermelon Cupcake, and — most recently — the Turtle Cupcake.
Well, now we’ve got one more to add to the list: the Candy Apple Cupcake.
Actually, make that two… Contempo Cafe currently has a Candy Bar Cupcake along with the Candy Apple Cupcake on offer. You’ll find them in the Cupcake Fridge (one of the self-serve refrigerators was recently dedicated entirely to cupcakes!) along with some of the more regularly available cupcakes like the Dirt & Worms Cupcake and a Frozen-themed Cupcake.
They’re all in grab-and-go packaging these days since they’re no longer in the usual bakery case, but they’re still made in-house. They each run about $5.59 and are snack credit eligible on the Disney Dining Plan.
The Candy Apple Cupcake is vanilla cake topped with candy apple flavored buttercream, which is then covered in sugar and finished with a fondant-like leaf and a pretzel stick for the cute details. [Read more…]
Time to head over to Disney’s Contemporary Resort for this new cupcake!
August’s cupcake at Contempo is a Turtle Cupcake featuring everyone’s favorite kid turtle, Squirt! Radical, Dude!
Contempo Café is known for its totally awesome cupcake selection! The Café, if you’re not familiar, is the counter-service restaurant in the Contemporary Resort, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the Grand Canyon Concourse near the popular character buffet, Chef Mickey’s.
The restaurant has great options like Cajun Seared Mahi and Chicken Alfredo Pasta — and you can’t miss the amazing Pot Roast! And breakfast here features one of our favorite giant Mickey waffles, because it’s served with salty caramel bananas foster sauce.
But today, we’re going to focus on this month’s Squirt cupcake – sweeeeeet!

I know! It’s been a banner week for Disney Cupcake fans!!
Recently, I had to share with you the “man, this sure does taste a lot like strawberry” Watermelon Cupcake at the Contempo Cafe.
But today, I’m back to tell you about one so good that I broke a DFB rule! Read on to find out more. 🙂
So, there’s plenty of reasons to love a Churro, right? I mean, what’s not to love about fried dough that’s rolled in cinnamon sugar? The soft inside against the crunchy outside texture makes this one of our DFB #OnTheList favorites. It’s true churros can be found more often in Disneyland, but we love the nods we’ve seen to it on the East Coast as well.
I mean, in both DL and WDW, we’re encountering a whole subculture of Churro-topped treats! There have been Churro Milkshakes, and we’ve even created our very own Churro Sundae. The Churro Funnel Cake at Hungry Bear is now on the full time menu (YAY!). And who could forget the Churro Ice Cream Sandwich?!?!
I’d like to argue that a Churro alone is plenty. But this cupcake took it to a Whole New Snack Level. And that’s what makes this one so special. [Read more…]

Allright, Star Wars Fans! And Cupcake Fans. And Contempo Cafe Fans…
We’re back yet again this week at one of Disney World’s longtime bonafide Cupcake Capitals — the Contempo Cafe in Disney World’s Contemporary Resort — to check out one of the more recent additions to its nearly legendary bakery case. While it remains home to treats like the awesome Peanut Butter Pie (aka: heaven), it’s still a great spot to grab a good old fashioned cupcake.
As always, the cupcakes here do change with higher frequency than many spots. The featured cupcake for the month of March, for instance, is a Strawberry Shortcake Cupcake (and early April should bring a Carrot Cake Cupcake). But when I went to see it for myself, it was another batch that caught my attention.
The Star Wars Cupcakes.
Now, typically I’d insert a picture of the bakery case display to give you pricing information, descriptions, and all that. And I do have one to share in a moment. But first, I’ll show you the cupcake I grabbed.
The cupcake that you see above is topped with a Star Wars character ring; specifically, Phasma, Captain of the First Order from Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens. [Read more…]

February is the month we celebrate love!
And since we LOVE few things more than checking out all the goings-on with FOOD all over Disney World, what say we take a whirlwind tour around the parks (and a few resorts) and see What’s New?! [Read more…]

Welcome back to the Contempo Cafe in Disney’s Contemporary Resort!
The last time we paid a visit to Contempo, we checked out a line-up of five new desserts that had hit the almost-famous Contempo Cafe bakery case. At the time, these included the Strawberry Blondie Banana Split, the Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich, the Cream Horn, the Swirl Cone Cupcake, and the Peanut Butter Pie.
Yes, that fabulous Peanut Butter Pie is still there (confession: my main motivation for stopping by more recently was to make sure that it indeed was)! In fact, the only one of the five that hasn’t remained on a longer-term basis is the Swirl Cone Cupcake. Of course, that’s not altogether unexpected, seeing as Contempo Cafe has a great reputation for changing up cupcakes quite often. Which is exactly why it’s fun to stop by… you never know what you might find.
This time, my search resulted in finding the Boston Cream Cupcake.
Taking inspiration from the famous Boston Cream Pie (which, in actuality, is a cake as opposed to a traditional pie), this yellow cupcake has a pastry cream filling and is topped with chocolate buttercream icing. The garnish is a chocolate ganache, with an added touch of white and dark chocolate swirls as a bit of decoration. [Read more…]
We can hardly contain our excitement around here because we are just DAYS away from the start of the 2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival!
It was another week full of big news stories including an opening date for Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar and a big change to the popcorn at the Disney theme parks!
We have a lot to share, so let’s jump right in…

In our wanderings in Disney World earlier this month we spotted some new goodies at Contempo Café at Disney’s Contemporary Resort!
Contempo Cafe has long impressed with the variety of options available in the ol’ bakery case. The main standouts, though, have typically come in the form of cupcakes. After all, Contempo Cafe has been home to a rotating cast of cupcake greats like the Black Forest Cupcake, the Dulce de Leche Cupcake, the always festive Birthday Cake Cupcake and — my personal favorite — the (deeply missed) Chocolate Covered Coconut Cupcake.
Now, for you diehard cupcake aficionados like myself, rest assured that we’ve got one more of those for you today. But we’re also taking a look at FOUR other new items in that case… and a couple of them may tempt you to veer off the cupcake path, at least for a little bit.
So get your sweet tooth ready for a few new gems! But let’s take a super quick look around first, shall we?
You’ll find Contempo Cafe on the fourth floor of the Contemporary, right next to Chef Mickey’s. It feels like things are always buzzing right around this area, especially since Chef Mickey and the gang are now hosting brunch as well as breakfast and dinner.
This Counter Service spot featuring hot meals (they still serve up a mean Pot Roast for dinner), baked goods, and grab-and-go items is perfect for having a quick bite before or after hitting the Magic Kingdom, which is within walking distance of the Contemporary. [Read more…]
We’ve hopped the monorail for another fun check-in at the Contempo Cafe!
On a recent jaunt through the Contemporary to view the Frozen Gingerbread Display, I couldn’t resist checking out the pastry case at the Contempo Cafe. More often than not, I usually find a new-to-me cupcake there!
Now, at first glance, this one doesn’t seem all that interesting. But let’s dig a little deeper. First off, the cupcakes featuring Mickey Mouse’s likeness at the Contempo in the past have been topped with a Chocolate Mickey — like this Red Velvet Cupcake. This one features a Souvenir Ring. SWAG! 😉
The top of the cupcake is crowned with a light Buttercream Frosting, and it’s finished with cute Mickey-shaped Confetti in classic colors. But we know the Contempo well enough at this point to figure there’s a surprise inside.
…And right we are! This cupcake features the same structure of others sold here; the center plays host to [Read more…]
