Snack Series: Red Velvet Mardi Gras Cupcake in Disneyland

Rock on! Now THIS is the kind of snack I can get behind!

Thanks to Amanda Ficili for letting us post this superstar photo from Disneyland’s New Orleans Bayou Bash! The red velvet cupcake is topped with green and purple whipped cream cheese frosting, and the whole thing is accented by “a white chocolate ornament dusted with gold glitter, a hand painted chocolate curl, and a Venetian cookie mask!” says Amanda!

She also told us that the center is filled with cream cheese frosting! I’ve died and gone to heaven! 😉

We found another awesome new cupcake to share with you! (Well, we found three awesome new cupcakes to share with you, but we’ll focus on this one for today…)

Sunshine Seasons in the Land pavilion of Epcot’s Future World is a quick-service restaurant with ample seating and a large, varied menu. It’s a favorite of DFB readers (and me!), and often wins the top spot when it comes to beloved counter-service restaurants!

It deserves this honor, too! There are plenty of options on the menu, including fresh and unique items. Choose from one of five varied menus!

On my visit last week, though, I headed straight for the Bakery area! I’d heard from a few DFB readers about the new Guava Cream Cheese Cupcake, and I knew I had to try it!

When I got to the bakery case, this lovely item was staring (literally — kind of looks like an eye, doesn’t it?) back at me!

As a self-appointed Walt Disney World tour reviewer, I spend a lot of time on property checking out both official and unofficial tours. I’m often accompanied by my reluctant sister. I’ve learned from experience that the best way to convince her to tour with me is with bribes – of the sweet variety.

A Dole Whip or Carrot Cake Cookie can keep her eye rolls and silent sighs at bay for a good 3-4 hours of touring.

Thankfully, when I found myself on the wrong end of an evil stare on our self-guided tour of holiday decorations, we were already at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Contempo Café cupcakes to the rescue! I had already given her the run down of confectionary options on our tour path, so she knew what to expect. What neither of us expected, however, were seasonal cupcakes.

Disney’s Boardwalk Bakery is located seaside at the Boardwalk Inn, and while it’s small, there’s always a new and inviting treat beckoning to be bought and dissected for DFB readers!! 🙂

Review: Disneyland’s Plaza Inn (Fried Chicken!)

One of Disneyland’s most coveted meals is the fantastic fried chicken at the Plaza Inn on the corner of Main Street and Tomorrowland!

Review: Disneyland Soundsational Menu Items…Will They Become Permanent?

Welcome back Carrie Hayward as she returns to show us specialty menu items from Disneyland’s Soundsational Annual Passholder event! And don’t forget to read Carrie’s bio at the end of this post — she’s pretty amazing!

Over the last week, Disneyland has hosted two after-hours parties to give annual passholders an up-close look at the new Soundsational parade and how it was created. Four special menu items were introduced for the events, each available at a different location and only between the hours of 4pm and midnight that day. However, word on the street is that one or more of them may have been a test for future inclusion on park menus.

Let’s see how the four potentially new menu items stack up!

Mac & Cheese Hot Dog – Main Street Refreshment Corner
Definitely the most talked-about special menu item, this diet-busting snack featured one of Disneyland’s new larger — and reportedly more flavorful hot dogs — smothered in neon macaroni & cheese and topped with bacon bits.

The last Disney hot dog I ate was at Walt Disney World (at Disneyland, I go straight for the corn dogs) and it didn’t seem particularly puny or bland, so I can’t comment on whether the new dog is an improvement.

Disneyland’s has a snappy casing and a salty, beefy taste. The macaroni and cheese was not quite up to par with my beloved Walt Disney World Mickeyroni — more plasticky and less cheesy — but it still had that satisfyingly creamy quality that tells you you’re eating a hot dog covered with mac ‘n’ cheese!

The bacon crumbles were the packaged kind you can buy at the market and didn’t taste like much of anything… think of them as savory sprinkles.

Soundsational “Cupcake” – Blue Ribbon Bakery
As it turned out, there was no Soundsational cupcake at Blue Ribbon Bakery on either party night, and at the first party, bakery cast members acted as if the sign announcing the cupcake was the first they’d heard of it. By the time the second party rolled around, the chef had pulled something together on the fly — a chocolate-chocolate chip muffin topped with cream cheese frosting and a white chocolate Mickey pumpkin.
