Leadership CHANGE Hits Disney’s Reedy Creek District

Changes continue to hit the Reedy Creek Improvement District (now known as the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District).

The District’s Board of Supervisors is made up of Governor DeSantis’ appointees, and over the past few months, they have declared some of Disney’s agreements with the old board to be invalid, filed a lawsuit against Disney in state court, heard some complaints and fears from Disney Springs restaurant operators, and more. A recent district meeting revealed even more important changes and now there’s been another shakeup.

Judge Rules AGAINST Disney in Important Lawsuit

Disney is involved in a variety of lawsuits right now — on everything from Park Passes to the Reedy Creek Improvement District — but we’ve got a big update on one important one.

A lawsuit was previously filed by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (the new name for the Reedy Creek Improvement District) against Disney in state court in Florida. This lawsuit claims that certain agreements Disney entered into with the old Board (which the new Board claims stripped them of their power) are null and void. The Board is suing to ask the Court to declare the old agreements invalid. Disney previously filed a motion to dismiss this lawsuit (essentially get it thrown out of court) for a variety of reasons and now we’ve got an update as to what will happen next.

NEWS: Disney Demands DeSantis Lawsuit Trial Date BEFORE the Election

The feud between Disney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has taken another turn, as Disney issues a response to the governor’s request that their lawsuit against him be dismissed.

Disney is suing Gov. DeSantis, claiming that the governor has waged a “relentless campaign to weaponize government power” against Disney. Last month, DeSantis requested that the lawsuit be dismissed, and now Disney has responded to that request. [Read more…]

The Ron DeSantis vs. Disney Reedy Creek Improvement District (“RCID”) battle continues — this time with some key documents that’ll help shape the case going forward.

A CLUE About the Future of Disney’s Canceled $1 Billion Orlando Project

In May 2023, Disney announced that a $1 billion project the company planned for the Lake Nona area of Orlando was canceled.

Disney purchased land in the Lake Nona area of Orlando in 2021 to build a campus that would relocate thousands of Disney employees to Central Florida. They later announced that this plan was delayed as of June 2022 and the move was again delayed for over 3 years — before the official announcement was made pulling the plug on the project.

Disney recently made a HUGE announcement about a $1 billion project it had planned for the Lake Nona area of Orlando.

In 2021, Disney purchased around 60 acres of land in Lake Nona, calling it a “regional campus” for thousands of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products team members (some would even relocate from California to Florida). The timeline for the project was extended, but then Disney announced it would not move forward with that project. So what’s going to happen to all that land the company purchased?
