Dining in Disneyland: Sneak Peek at Trolley Treats & Clarabelle’s Ice Cream, Opening June 15th

June 15th is right around the corner and two of the places I can’t wait to get to are Trolly Treats & Clarabelle’s Ice Cream, both located on Disney California Adventure’s new Buena Vista Street.

We got the chance to sample some goodies from these spots, and I can’t wait to share them with you.

Clarabelle’s Ice Cream

Clarabelle’s Ice Cream will be serving up some old fashioned frozen favorites as well as some treats with some interesting toppings!

The “story” behind Clarabelle’s is that it was inspired by an ice cream shop that young Walt might have visited in the early 1920’s. “Clarabelle Cowherd” ran her bovine inspired ice cream shop where she used farm fresh dairy products and old fashioned churns to make her flavorful hand scooped ice creams. Decorated in full “cow” theme, this may have been what “Moo-ved” Walt to create the humorous Clarabelle Cow. 😉

Clarabelle’s will serve hand scooped ice cream as well as a new to the resort item; chocolate or vanilla bean hand dipped ice cream bars with various topping choices that include sprinkles, chocolate pearls, nuts, and drum roll please…. POP ROCKS!

Cars Land First Look: Food Photos and Reviews From Sally’s Cozy Cone Motel

After our fun look at Flo’s V-8 Cafe, I couldn’t wait to tell you all about Sally’s Cozy Cone Motel and the eats you can find there come June 15th at Disney California Adventure’s Cars Land!

Cozy Cone Motel Menu

Cone Number 1

Churro bites with cinnamon-chocolate sauce, cinnamon-spiced hot cocoa, and Ramone’s Pear of Dice Soda made with dessert pear syrup, mojito syrup and Sprite.

Cone Number 2
Soft-serve ice cream and “route” beer floats.

Cone Number 3
Savory bites all served in edible bread cones, such as a bacon-scrambled egg cone for breakfast, chicken verde or chili “cone” queso for lunch and dinner.

First Look! Food Photos and Tasting Review From Flo’s V-8 Cafe in Cars Land

Today I had the pleasure of walking behind the closed off walls of Cars Land in Disney California Adventure. This brand new land in the Disneyland Resort has been under construction for years, and I couldn’t believe I was actually going to get a sneak peek…and even get to sample some of the brand new menu items that will be served there and on Buena Vista Street when they open next month! 

Standing under the mountains of Ornament Valley with the Radiator Springs Racers whizzing by, I had to take a deep breath.  Goosebumps on my arms, tears in my eyes. What in the world was happening to me? I’ve watched the progress of Cars Land from day one, and now, it’s nearly done.

Just weeks away from the June 15th grand opening and there I stood, inside getting a sneak peek!  The only way for me to describe Cars Land is simple and true. You are IN Radiator Springs. You have stepped into Cars. 

After telling myself to get it together and wishing I could take a photo, I followed the other attendees into Flo’s V8 Cafe for a sampling of the menu!

Because Flo’s is not 100% complete, photos were not allowed, the pictures you see here were from a “preview” room that we were taken to beforehand. 

Atmosphere

I’ll do my best to describe to you in detail the atmosphere of Flo’s. Flo’s is a counter service restaurant serving up breakfast, lunch & dinner.  Upon entering, be sure to look up. There is a giant light fixture made of shiny tail pipes. 

Flo’s caters to the growing number of Route 66 visitors and race fans coming to Radiator Springs, with a “showroom” dining area that overlooks the Radiator Springs Racers attraction. The cafe also is home to Flo’s personal memorabilia, collected during her glamorous career as a singer with the Motorama Girls.

The service area includes several walk-up kiosks (or food pods) divided by road barrier type blockades to keep you in your line. The main color of the cafe is turquoise. There is a giant juke box fixture at the counter.  Two main dining rooms make up the cafe, and there is both indoor (booths & tables) and outdoor seating.

Best of all? You can’t beat the view from the dining rooms. One side features a perfect view of Sally’s Cozy Cones and the other — a breathtaking view of [Read more…]

Dining in Disneyland: New Mickey Sour Powder Caramel Apple and Goofy Caramel Apple

I’m so excited that the Candy Palace has reopened in Disneyland! The new interior is gorgeous, and to go along with its new look, our favorite talented candy makers have created some fun new treats: The Goofy Caramel Apple & The Mickey Sour Powder Caramel Apple!

Atmosphere

While walking around the newly renovated store for the first time, I immediately noticed the new Caramel Apple “Bar” area where you can order refrigerated caramel apples and various drinks (water, soda, juice, milk, and energy drinks). Located in the back of the store where it connects with the Coca Cola Refreshment Corner, this little area is a great addition to the Candy Palace.

After asking around a bit, I learned that these two new caramel apples were debuting specially for the store’s grand reopening. Normally, I wouldn’t thrown down $20 on two caramel apples, but both were just way too intriguing so I broke down. After purchase, my boys and I went right outside to dig into Goofy. We had Mickey packed up to take home and test out the following day!

First Look! New Princess Cookies

Just last week some new Disney Princess cookies were introduced at the Disneyland Resort.  I spotted them at Marceline’s in Downtown Disney.  Not only did I conduct a little princess photo shoot on the spot, but I also took Ariel home with me for a taste test!

The generously sized cookies are all “Honey Vanilla” in flavor.  They’re available in 4 different designs and will set you back just under $5.00.

Dining in Disneyland: The Chimichanga

I know you’ve seen people walking around Disney parks with giant turkey legs. BUT, did you know that at every stand that sells turkey legs in Disneyland also sells chimichangas?

Yep, crispy fried burritos filled with beef and beans. I myself had not eaten one until recently. Mainly because they look pretty disgusting. 

However, I am almost embarrassed to say that they are sinfully delicious. Served up warm, the outer “shell” is crisp while the center is soft and flavorful. In the mixture, the beans and beef are almost blended together as one, which sounds crazy, but it’s true. You can see in the photo above it’s hard to distinguish…

First Look! New Gelato Popsicle Stand in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney

Strolling though Downtown Disney on Easter afternoon I noticed something that was not there just a week before: a new “Gelato Pop” stand! I had just eaten a giant brunch at Steakhouse 55, so a taste test was not an option; but I did get the “scoop” on this fun new treat stop.

Thank goodness for a warm Spring Break in So Cal, because after being open for a mere three days, the Gelato Popsicle stand seems to be a hit. The Cast Member I spoke with said that they were doing pretty well on their first three days and they hope to become a permanent fixture in the Downtown Disney district. 

The Gelato Pop stand offers 9 different types of Gelato popsicles (pre-made offsite):

is set to release a whole bunch of fun new merchandise when the construction walls come down this June! 

Check out all of the foodie-related items that I found at the recent Passholder Preview this week (where I also tried the new popcorn flavor and slushies that will debut!).  I absolutely love the new artwork being used.

Dining in Disneyland: The Chocolate Caramel Cashew Pretzel Rod

Although I’ve seen them around for quite some time, I had never actually purchased a Pretzel Rod from any of the Disneyland Resort shops.  They come in a variety of “styles;” all are dipped in chocolate, but some have a coating of M & M’s, some have seasonal sprinkles, and I’ve even seen them coated with Conversation Hearts around Valentine’s Day… .  But there was one that caught my eye on my last trip to Pooh Corner, nestled back in Critter Country.

Available in both dark and milk chocolate, the Cashew Pretzel Rod is hand dipped with love in the candy kitchens of the Disneyland Resort.  At $4.50 a pop, they aren’t cheap; but they are big enough to share with a friend, which is exactly what I did!  After purchasing, my snack buddy and I headed to the waterside seating over at The Hungry Bear to enjoy our tasty treat.
