Wine Dinner at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen: June 1st, 2011

Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District is serving up a wine dinner with Robert Michero, a managing director at Maddalena Brands, San Antonio Winery on Wednesday, June 1st. Come expecting to enjoy some delicious food including goat cheese and andouille stuffed zucchini blossoms, lamb wellington, a banana fosters redux, and much more.

Location: Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen at Disneyland’s Downtown Disney
When: June 1st at 6:30pm
Cost: $125 per person (plus tax and gratuity)

Dining in Disneyland: The Return of the Corn Dog Castle!

Heather Sievers has some great Dining in Disneyland news this week — the Corn Dog Castle is back in action!

Nestled between Seaside Souvenirs and what will soon be the new Goofy’s Sky School ride is a little gem that’s been closed for quite some time. When I heard last week that Corn Dog Castle had reopened, it was almost too good to be true. So, of course I had to go and see it to believe it.

The Corn Dog Castle is Back!

Although corn dogs have been available at California Adventure during the closure (first at Farmer’s Market, which eventually closed for the construction of Cars Land, and then at Award Wieners in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot), it was not the same as getting one from the original corn dog king.

Last Saturday, I had one of the best nights of my life. It was literally that fun. I went for the food, but stayed for the movie… . Or wait did I go for the movie and stay for the food. Either way, I was happily stuffed by the end of the event. Mix a little Johnny Depp with a great meal, awesome snacks, and fun friends & well, it’s perfection.

Dining in Disneyland: Mother’s Day Brunch at Catal

It may be a little last minute, but if you are in the Disneyland area and have no Mother’s Day plans for mom, take her to the Downtown Disney District for brunch.

Catal is offering a special Mother’s Day Brunch that will be served from 10:00am to 3:00 pm. The menu offerings look amazing. It’s a three course meal with an option for $7 bottomless “MOM-osas!”

Pricing is $40 for adults & $12.95 for children under 10. If you are an annual passholder, don’t forget to use your AP for an extra dining discount.

In my household, there has always been controversy surrounding the Big Thunder Ranch BBQ. We’ve been on and off supporters of it for about 15 years. The controversy? Over the years, it’s been good, it’s been bad, it’s moved around (for a while BBQ was being served at the Rancho del Zocalo location), it’s even been non-existent. We passed it by for the last few years and recently we decided to give it another chance. I’m happy to report that we are once again supporters.

Located on Main Street in Disneyland, the Carnation Café is a great little spot for a relaxing lunch. This table service restaurant features outdoor seating and a very simple, yet delicious menu.

Atmosphere…And a Visit With Chef Oscar
The décor of red and white umbrellas that shade the adorable chairs and tables reminds me of an old “soda fountain” type of place. Casual and cute is how I’d describe it. I’ve dined at Carnation Café on several occasions, coming back again and again for their amazing Loaded Baked Potato Soup.

Spring Break is in full swing & The Disneyland Resort has sprung some amazing Easter treats on us. On a recent trip to my favorite candy kitchen on Main Street, I noticed something I had never ever seen before. Chocolate Easter Eggs!

Disneyland Chocolate Easter Eggs are Made Just Once a Week

Unfortunately they weren’t being made right at that moment, but I did take the time to ask the Cast Member working at the Candy Palace’s register a few questions.

With over 50 years of combined experience, I wasn’t surprised to learn that the creators of this confection are the “Disneyland Candy Gods” Chris Thompson & Rob McHargue. You know, the same guys who have been making candy canes forever and a day?

The Chocolate Easter Eggs are made only once a week during the Spring Break season, and they are made and sold only at the Candy Palace on Disneyland’s Main Street USA. Each egg is 8 oz and there are two flavors: Chocolate Nut Fudge & Vanilla Nut Fudge. The recipes were created by Rob, and these, like all of his other recipes, are actually patented by Disney. I got to thinking, just because the recipes are documented and protected doesn’t mean any ol’ candy maker can create the same amazing treats as these two pros. Who will take over when [Read more…]

Dining in Disneyland: The Hungry Bear Re-Opens with a New Menu

After weeks of renovations, the Hungry Bear Restaurant in Disneyland’s Critter Country has reopened with a brand new menu. We had seen the tarps and boards up for some time; we even took a sail on the Columbia to see if we could get a sneak peek at what was going on behind the scenes. No such luck. So, when the restaurant opened back up this past week, we headed over for an early dinner to check it out. Hungry? Why yes, we are!

Eager Beaver Welcoming You to The Hungry Bear

Let me start by telling you that Hungry Bear is in the way way way back of Disneyland. I mean, we’re talking outskirts. If you’re looking for a semi-quick way to get there, hop on the train and get off at the New Orleans Station, head left, pass the Haunted Mansion & Splash Mountain, follow the curve around to the left and you will find the Hungry Bear just before the Winnie the Pooh ride on your right side.

When we first walked up to the restaurant, we were a little nervous. There were ZERO people in line, which isn’t really a great sign for a restaurant. Especially for a Saturday evening during Spring Break. I’m going to assume this was because people really didn’t know it was open.
