News and Review! Holiday Menu Items at Earl of Sandwich

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… I love being on the Earl of Sandwich email list. Not only do you get a free sandwich for your birthday month (which I just redeemed!) but you also get emails letting you know about seasonal specials.

When this one recently arrived, I got pretty excited!

Holiday eats have descended upon Earl of Sandwiches across the country, and I headed into our local Disneyland store to check ’em out! Note that these are also available at the Walt Disney World Earl of Sandwich!

Holiday Turkey Sandwich

We all know that the Holiday Turkey Sandwich is here to stay as it became a permanent menu item last year. And even though it’s always there, I still get super excited whenever I get a chance to have one.

Piled high with turkey, stuffing, gravy & cranberry sauce, this sandwich is comfort food at its best.  A hand held Thanksgiving meal, the Holiday Turkey Sandwich is toasted to perfection and really can not be beat.

Holiday Ham Sandwich

New to the holiday sandwich family this year is the Holiday Ham Sandwich.

With heaps of ham, fresh pineapple rings & a holiday apple glaze type sauce, this sandwich is sure to be a huge hit.  Served warm and toasted just like all of its Earl relatives, the flavors in this new sandwich really pop.

In my opinion, you can’t really go wrong with a pineapple/ham partnership.

Dining in Disneyland: 2013 Disneyland Candy Cane Dates!!

It’s about that time of the year! The Christmas decor is being put up around the resort and seasonal treats are starting to surface! Are you craving Hand Made Candy Canes from the Disneyland Resort yet?  Yes? Good! ‘Cause we’ve got the dates!

Hand Made Candy Canes from The Candy Palace

Just like last year, Candy Cane making will be alternating between Candy Palace on Main Street USA in Disneyland and Trolley Treats over on Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure.

HOW IT WORKS

Technically you are not supposed to line up before park opening, but guess what people do? When I went for the first time, I was lucky and got there just 30 minutes before park opening. But I talked to someone who was there by 4:00am, which to me is nuts. So basically, it’s your call. Last year, the crush wasn’t quite so bad, but you never know what’s going to happen this year.

Wristbands may be picked up at park opening.

I HAVE NOT confirmed this info, but this is how it went down last year:
There will be 40 wristbands per batch and three batches per day.  This means that 120 wristbands will be given out at park opening.

Dining in Disneyland Review: The Market House Reopens as Starbucks!

In “better late than never news” (sorry, I’ve completely lagged on this post), The Market House on Disneyland’s Main Street USA has reopened as Starbucks — and it’s gorgeous!

The Market House is the second Starbucks location to open at the Disneyland Resort, following the one inside of Fiddler, Fifer, and Practical Cafe.  A third is currently being built in Downtown Disney.

In my opinion, Disney has done a fantastic job at imagineering the themes of Starbucks to fit right in with the resort.  Overall, the Market House has kept much of its quaint decor, but it’s been updated with a larger queue area and more seating.

When you walk up to the Market House, you will notice that the Starbucks signage is very subtle.  In fact some of the windows don’t even have a Starbucks logo.

The windows that do have Starbucks signage are more vintage looking; not the typical obvious green logo that we are used to seeing on every corner.  The window below is near the main entrance of Market House.

Dining in Disneyland: Oktoberfest Items at Disney California Adventure

Chicken Dance your way over to DCA! As part of their Limited Time Magic promotion, Disney California Adventure is celebrating Oktoberfest with some special items at Bayside Brews.

Available through the month of October, the special Oktoberfest items include a Bratwurst Sandwich, Bavarian Pretzels, Gingerbread Bundt Cake, and two specialty beers on tap: Karl Strauss Oktoberfest & Hofbrau Munchen Beer.

The Bratwurst Sausage is served in a garlic brioche with a side of hickory smoked bacon sauerkraut. The sandwich is $8.49 and comes with a choice of apples or potato chips.

Dining in Disneyland: Pumpkin Beignets vs. Pumpkin Fritters

Fall is here and the Disneyland Resort is full of lots of amazing seasonal treats.

If you know me, you know this is my very favorite food season and anything with the word “pumpkin” in the title is something that you’ll find me ordering.

Two things that I recently devoured, both located at Disneyland, are the Pumpkin Fritters from Royal Street Veranda and Pumpkin Beignets from the Mint Julep Bar.  Both are mouth watering, but I do have a favorite… .

In my book, the Pumpkin Fritters reign tastiest seasonal pumpkin treat. But don’t worry, if you prefer the Pumpkin Beignets, I’ll still be your friend!

Let’s start with MY favorite:

Pumpkin Fritters can be be found at Royal Street Veranda near Pirates of the Caribbean.

Known for their chowder in a bread bowl, this great little spot also serves fritters.  Normally the fritters are apple, but this year they have seasonal Pumpkin “Squash” Fritters!

Halloween time has arrived at the Disneyland Resort, and the treats (especially the pumpkin ones) are calling my name!

I found a handful of fun items that I felt needed to be shared immediately so that your Halloween snacking could be planned accordingly.

Please note that we will be posting some in depth reviews of some of these treats, but for now, here’s a mini sampling…

Let’s not save the best for last.

Pumpkin Fritters, Gingerbread Cookies, and Pumpkin Latte

These gems can be found in Disneyland at the Royal Street Veranda. They have REAL pumpkin chunks in them and are fried to perfection.  They come with a creamy custard dipping sauce.

The Pumpkin Latte is flavorful but not at all artificial tasting.

Dining in Disneyland: New Cake Pops Spotted at the Disneyland Resort

I never miss an opportunity to see what Marceline’s in Downtown Disney is up to.  Even if I’m just quickly walking by, I always pop in to see if there is anything new.

On a recent visit, two fun cake pops caught my eye.  The Goofy and Cheshire Cat inspired cake pops appear to be close relatives to their caramel apple counterparts.  (You can read about the delicious Cheshire Cat Caramel apple here and the disastrous Goofy Caramel Apple here.)

This post though, is all about their mini lookalikes, which were introduced to the resort at the beginning of August.

New Cheshire Cat and Goofy Cake Pops Join Mike Wazowski!

Since I had already tried a Mike Wazowski cake pop (on more than one occasion) during the Monstrous Summer season, I purchased a Cheshire Cat and Goofy cake pop to go.  We were staying on property for the weekend, so I walked them back to the Disneyland Hotel for a little in-room review.

Dining in Disneyland: Gummi Candy Corn

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Fall is upon us and Halloween treats have begun to pop up at the Disney Resorts.

The decorations are coming out and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us this Halloween season.  Marceline’s in Downtown Disney is ready!

From what I’ve noticed amongst the people I know, you either love candy corn or you hate it. I don’t really know anyone that has an in-between feeling about it.

I’ve been eyeing these Gummi Candy Corn bags for the last few years. Because of their buttery smell — literally they smell like butter if you take a whiff of the package — I was a little bit scared to try them.

I do love Candy Corn though, so when a friend of mine suggested we try a bag, I decided it was finally time to give them a chance.

Vintage Disney Matchbooks Part 1: Disneyland

As much as society has changed, there used to be a time when smoking was much more common (In fact, even Walt himself was a smoker; and more often than not, he’d be seen with a cigarette in hand )…and the activity created lots of opportunities for businesses to promote themselves.

Although smoking is not for me, I DO appreciate the gorgeous matchbooks that used to be distributed throughout the Disney Parks.

Nearly every single dining establishment, store, “land,” hotel and lounge had its own matchbook — free souvenirs to visiting guests.  I’ve recently stumbled upon (and won) some online auctions for vintage Disney Parks matchbook collections.  I am completely obsessed with their coolness.

The matchbooks I’ve received include everything from early early Disneyland to Disneyland Paris, to Epcot and Pleasure Island in Walt Disney World.  It was so much fun to go through them and sort out the restaurants and lounges to share here on the blog.

Disneyland Vintage Matchbooks

Club 33

The Club 33 match book is one of the more recent matchbooks in the collection.  Not sure that it would be considered vintage, but it’s still pretty awesome.

Years ago, personalized match books awaited you at your table when you dined at Club 33, but when a healthier trend started to spread, the matches were replaced mini pads of paper that looked exactly like a matchbook.  This photo though, is an actual matchbook.

Plantation House and Red Wagon Inn

The other three matchbooks are much older.  The one below features two restaurants, The Plantation House in Frontierland and the Red Wagon Inn on Main Street USA.

Both restaurants debuted at Disneyland’s grand opening and were operated by Swift Meats.  The Plantation House served up fried chicken dinners for $1.70.  Meals could be enjoyed on the patio of a plantation style home along the Rivers of America.  The Plantation House closed in 1962 to make room for New Orleans Square.
