Bob Iger Announces 13,000 New Jobs Will Come to Disney World

On top of Disney’s battle with DeSantis over the Reedy Creek District (now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District), Disney has been in the news for its large amount of layoffs.

In 2022, former Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced a hiring freeze and when Bob Iger took over as CEO in November, he confirmed that this planned hiring freeze would still happen. Recently, though, Disney has started its first wave of layoffs from the company including some executives. Now, though, we have an update on the future of jobs at Disney World.

Bob Iger’s “Fight for the Future of Disney” Is OVER

Disney has been in the middle of a huge battle lately, but it has finally ended.

Activist investor Nelson Peltz and his company (Trian Partners) had initiated a proxy battle at the Walt Disney Company. Peltz’s goal was to get a seat on the Board of Directors at Disney to champion some of the changes he thought needed to be made within the Company. Disney had refused to add Peltz to the board despite Peltz having various meetings with them, and Disney made it clear that they did NOT support Peltz’s move to encourage shareholders to vote for him to grab a seat from another director. One reporter even called this proxy situation Bob Iger’s “fight for the future of Disney.” But it seems the fight is now over.

This tremendous loss, among other things, ultimately contributed to the ouster of Bob Chapek as CEO. Disney Fears One Change Could Be “DISRUPTIVE” at a Crucial Time

Things could be changing at the Walt Disney Company, but the Company’s Board of Directors isn’t just sitting back and letting it happen without at least issuing a response.

For a while, we’ve been covering the situation with activist investor Nelson Peltz and Trian Parters/Group. Basically, Peltz has been attempting (for some time) to get a seat on Disney’s Board of Directors. He’s had meetings with both Bob Chapek and Bob Iger, but ultimately Disney has pushed back and refused to offer him a seat, arguing that he is not qualified. Peltz and Trian Partners have since decided to mount a battle for a seat on the Board of Directors, and now Disney has responded in a big way.
